Chimbonda To Sign For Newcastle?

News today on the Tottenham Hotspur Blog, that Newcastle United are in talks with Spurs right back Pascal Chimbonda.

Pascal Chimbonda – reported to be in talks with Newcastle

Spurs right-back, Pascal Chimbonda, is said to be close to a £6M move to Newcastle United, on the Tottenham Hotspur blog.

Now bfore Newcastle fans faint, or have a heart attack, let’s quickly point out that only last Tuesday, Pascal’s agent, Willie McKay, said Spurs would be looking for around £2M for the player they bought from Wigan two years ago for £4.5M.

On 10th June, Willie McKay, Chimbonda’s agent told Sky Sports:

“I expect Pascal to leave Tottenham this summer,”

“I am speaking to several clubs with the consent of Tottenham and Pascal hopes to get his future sorted soon.”

“I believe Tottenham will be looking in the region of £2M from interested clubs.”

The blog says that Spurs have accepted the bid – it cannot possibly be for £6M, we’re not that daft – and the player is in talks with the Newcastle club regarding personal terms.

The blog is also reporting that if all goes as planned, Chimbonda should be a Newcastle United player soon.

We have no idea if there is any truth in this report, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if we have bid £2M and had the offer accepted by Spurs.

We quite like Chimbonda, and think he would be good at Newcastle.

However, we also know from comments on this site, that he wouldn’t necessarily be a popular acquisition for the club, as far as the Newcastle faithful are concerned.

But he seems like a Kevin Keegan player, who can attack down the wing, and for £2M we think he would be a decent buy for the club.

He can also play in either full back slot – anyway, that’s what we think.

Let’s know what your thoughts are on this potential deal, but please keep it clean for the youngsters. 😀

Comments always welcome.

    Just no.

They are saying 6mil on their blog, but its a blog aka no factual truth. He wont settle for back up and is the definition of a mercenary.

Ed – They bought him from Wigan.

Another Babayaro I reckon, he’s a moneygrabber. Decent backup but almost the same age as Beye and we’re unlikely to meet his wage demands. He may be talking to clubs but he’s not on our radar, we were linked in the past yes, but now I think we’re aiming a bit higher.

2 Million is a good price but he has a MASSIVE ego and is what we DON’T need.

Don’t like this move. We need an up and comer behind Beye, not a player the same age with less ability and a poor attitude. We can get cover from Taylor if we get what we really need at the back — Two Center Halves and a Left back.

To be honest with you, buy Arshavin/VDV (very unlikely) and a quality CB and then they can buy whoever they want and it wont bother me one bit.

Why go for Chimbonda when we could go for TOROSIDIS? He is one of a few players that has performed well for Greece and doesn’t look out of place in a high standard of football, unlike Chimbonda who seems to contribute to many of Spurs poor defensive performances. I can’t help but remember his strop at going off in the League Cup final only to be seen celebrating at the end! He appears to upset all around him, be they opponents or his own players. Enough said!

There better be no truth i this crap, Chimbonda is a arrogant little squirt who is not good enough for SPURS!?

We are a far better and bigger club than they will ever be, why would we lower ourselves and take on their cast offs?

We lost Woodgate, Modric and whoever next to these cockney tramps and it would be an insult to sign their shite they dont want.

I hope this is all a load of shite, seriously 🙁

I think it’s a load of tripe too. No matter what anyone thinks of Chimbonda as either a player or a person he just doesn’t look like the type we’re trying to sign. He’s too old and isn’t that special a player.

    what would be the point?

beye proved more than capable going forward last season, and chimbonda has character issues and is known for complaining about his place in the first 11.

why would we sign him knowing he’d go off when he didn’t get his game?

wot would we do if beye got injured though,

although i dont like him, mostly due to the slap incident two seasons ago with butt, i think he would be decent cover for beye if anything did happen to him and also he could play lb or back up to cb

i think we should get him but for no more than 3m and play him at lb if we do a deal with valencia for enrique.

I agree with Tom Toon (#7), if Chimbonda is our first signing I think I might vomit, out of all the players we’ve been linked with I think he’s one of the last ones I want to see in the black & white! Moneygrabbing, no better than Beye IMO, won’t settle for being backup which is what we really need! Sign us the key first team players, particularly the midfielders, which we desperately need to progress, then buy these bit part players. Players like van der Vaart, Arshavin, Turan etc are unique and buying them will require all the skills at the disposal of the recruitment team, there’s plenty of backup players we can buy, leave them til later!
