Faye Transfer To Blackburn Is News To Us

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Blackburn Rovers have dropped their interest in Abdoulaye Faye, following Mark Hughes’ switch to Manchester City.

Abdoulaye Faye – strong player for Newcastle

Tell us if we are missing something here, but we’ve never seen any news on Faye moving to Blackburn Rovers, or moving at all, for that matter.

But the Chronicle says that the Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan could not be more delighted that Faye is staying?

Keegan believes Faye is the man to bring the best out of his fellow young central defender and England Under-21 skipper Steven Taylor, and we think Faye has performed on the whole extremely well for Newcastle last season.

In some games he has looked great, and is especially good in the air.

Indeed, in the first half of our game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last year, he looked a fantastic player with so much passion for the club.

But the Chronicle is now reporting that at the end of the season, Faye was on his way to Blackburn Rovers, but that the departure of Hughes to Manchester City has changed all that.

Well, that’s news to us, so it’s hard to think it’s good news, or even news at all, that he’s staying at Newcastle.

It would be a shock if he had left.

Certainly Abdoulaye Faye and Steven Taylor played well together under Keegan, and the defense at times even looked solid – dare we say it.

Keegan said:

“I think the link-up has been very, very good.”

“And I think Faye’s been a calming influence on Steven.”

“In fact, if you look back to the Sunderland game there was a danger that, because Steven was a local, he would get caught up in the excitement of it too much.”

“But credit to him, I though he gave a very mature display, and I think Faye played his part in that.”

With Ramage, Rozehnal and Diatta having already departed we would expect two center-backs to be drafted in.

We’ll come right out and say we’d like Glagow Ranger’s Spanish center-back Carlos Cuellar, and Deportivo’s Argentine International Fabricio Collocini, to be on their way to Newcastle before August 31st.

Fabricio Collocini and Carlos Cuellar

That would be great, and we’d have at least 4 top quality center-backs, and would make a welcome change.

We’ll just have to see who Newcastle can get in, but we believe we’ll need at least two center-backs and a left back for the defense, before the summer is out.

Comments welcome.

Good point Leo, he is a beast. His agent says he’s available at 6M but I fully expect him to follow Sparky to Citeh.

Faye and Samba would be a pretty solid partnership, you can see what Hughes was thinking…

Yea in fairness BSA was pretty shrewd in the transfer market. Faye, Beye, Enrique, 8M for Dyer and Parker. Problem is he just couldn’t manage them the fat tit!

Only poor business was Smith and yea that just about cancels out all of the good signings he made.

How about Andre Bikey from Reading? Good in the air and still young at 23.

Faye had a lot of strong games for us last season and would be surprised if he left, dispite us been linked with over quality internationals.

I agree with Ed, we don need at least one quality international here at the Toon.

Have been impressed with the German CB pairing and a number of the Romanian defence.

Apparently the German press have ridiculed Metzelder and Mertesacker and Martin O’Neill the other day said they were the weakness in the team.
(I would have said Jansen and Lehmann)

So maybe were missing something because i rate both of them, But they see them a lot more than me.

I’d have been surprised if Faye left us for Blackburn. They’re not exactly Champions League and doubt he’d get any more in wages (I think he’s on 3 times his Bolton wedge as it is).

The other point is on Cuellar and Collocini – there’s no point in having a youth policy if you aren’t going to have any faith that the kids can do a job at least in the short term. We have Edgar, Tozer and the Hungarian kid all looking for encouragement to progress. Signing 2 expensive centre-backs in addition to Taylor and Faye is sending out only one message. KK has to leave the door ajar to some of these kids, or send them all out on loan. And we may need all the transfer kitty to be channeled into areas of the team where we have no kids at the required level – like midfield ( with due respect to LuaLua).

    No?

I hope this is not true or it would be a VERY BAD sign.

Mark Hughes thinks he is good enough for Blackburn and with money not an issue at Man C, he is aiming higher and no longer interested. On the other hand, we are glad to keep him. This shows the differences of ambition.
