The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Blackburn Rovers have dropped their interest in Abdoulaye Faye, following Mark Hughes’ switch to Manchester City.
Abdoulaye Faye – strong player for Newcastle
Tell us if we are missing something here, but we’ve never seen any news on Faye moving to Blackburn Rovers, or moving at all, for that matter.
But the Chronicle says that the Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan could not be more delighted that Faye is staying?
Keegan believes Faye is the man to bring the best out of his fellow young central defender and England Under-21 skipper Steven Taylor, and we think Faye has performed on the whole extremely well for Newcastle last season.
In some games he has looked great, and is especially good in the air.
Indeed, in the first half of our game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last year, he looked a fantastic player with so much passion for the club.
But the Chronicle is now reporting that at the end of the season, Faye was on his way to Blackburn Rovers, but that the departure of Hughes to Manchester City has changed all that.
Well, that’s news to us, so it’s hard to think it’s good news, or even news at all, that he’s staying at Newcastle.
It would be a shock if he had left.
Certainly Abdoulaye Faye and Steven Taylor played well together under Keegan, and the defense at times even looked solid – dare we say it.
“I think the link-up has been very, very good.”
“And I think Faye’s been a calming influence on Steven.”
“In fact, if you look back to the Sunderland game there was a danger that, because Steven was a local, he would get caught up in the excitement of it too much.”
“But credit to him, I though he gave a very mature display, and I think Faye played his part in that.â€
With Ramage, Rozehnal and Diatta having already departed we would expect two center-backs to be drafted in.
We’ll come right out and say we’d like Glagow Ranger’s Spanish center-back Carlos Cuellar, and Deportivo’s Argentine International Fabricio Collocini, to be on their way to Newcastle before August 31st.
Fabricio Collocini and Carlos Cuellar
That would be great, and we’d have at least 4 top quality center-backs, and would make a welcome change.
We’ll just have to see who Newcastle can get in, but we believe we’ll need at least two center-backs and a left back for the defense, before the summer is out.
