Newcastle Still Pursue Van Der Vaart

While it would be hard to believe we could get him, Newcastle United are again being linked with Dutch midfield super-star Rafael Van Der Vaart, following last night’s win against France.

Rafael Van der Vaart – Newcastle still interested

We had reported last week that Newcastle were not only interested in the Dutchman, but they were in fact leading the chase for him.

Van Der Vaart currently plays for Bundesliga side, Hamburg, since joining them in 2005 from Holland side Ajax.

He has been tipped for a move to the Premier League after the European tournament finishes.

Yesterday, he was again a star player for Holland, who took France apart 4-1, to record their second successive 3 goal victory, against World Champions, Italy, and Work Cup runners up France.

Not a bad couple of performances to start Euro 2008 with, that’s for sure.

Of course there are numerous Premier League clubs that have an interest in the player, but it’s Newcastle who are still said to be leading the chase.

We’ll believe it when we see it, but it’s hard to think a world class player, like Rafael, would come to Newcastle, when we cannot even offer him European football next season.

New Hamburg manager Martin Jol said about his 25-year-old player:

“We have to do all we can to keep hold of him.”

“He is one of the best five play-makers in Europe and he dictates the rhythm of Hamburg.”

We’ll keep an eye on this one, and hope miracles are still possible, in this day and age of world football.

Comments welcome.

Its unlikely, but it would be a step up from Hamburg, who although are a decent side they play in the German League so if we can afford him more than others we may have a chance

Hamburg was a shock move for him and I am guessing Newcastle would be a bigger club for him. He is exactly what we need.

Whats so impossible about this transfer? I thnk we have every chance of landing this midfield maestro. I also think he’s been outshined by a number of other players in the Dutch side thus keeping the attention off him and more focus on the other chaps who have played some spectacular football.

Black n White Van man for the Toon!

Van Der Vaart , Arda, or Arshavin would be mint.
I actually think we already have Arda. Dont all go daft and ask for proof.Like I said its only my theory.
The way he immediatly ran to Emre to celebrate his goal, and the way it all went silent on any transfer talk regarding him. It might be just me ,but i reckon its a done deal to be announced after the Euro’s.

Again i’m just really happy to be linked with players of VDV and Ashvarins quality.

We do need a creative player in our squad, i’ve missed that type of player ever since Beardsley left.

Would take VDV over the russian, then again beggars cant be choosers!

Hate Pawn Sandwhiches lol Honestley mate, THIS is the ONE signing Ive been asking for prior to the end of the season. Im seriously not too fussed about other commings and goings because IF we get this guy, he would supply our front line with enough quality that we would plunder a silly amount of goals!

If you look at the Dutch side, players like Sneijder, Robben, Van Bronkhorst, Van Nistlroy and Van Persie have outshone VDV (even though we all know VDV is a genius) he hasnt had a blistering game as of yet. (Long may it continue because I want teams to overlook him so we can pounce)

P.S KK is still a great Hamburg legend and VDV will know all about him 😉

But i thought the idea was Keegan would stick with 4-3-3. If so then Turan, Van der Vaart and Arshavin is gonna be very much all out attack!

O_O If you do guys get this… thing. Holy moly… Transferring VDV would take all the stress away from Ashley. Would be really wise to get him.

Oh just want to clarify a few things about Arda. He’s ‘usually’ on the left wing, but he’s a right footed player! He does use his left foot from time to time and he does switch wings often or even plays in the center. But for the usual periods of a match you’ll probably see him on the left wing. And loves closing down his opposition when he doesn’t have the ball.

Oh and someone pointed out how Arda celebrated his goal with Emre in the match against Switzerland. After the match Arda said when asked what the ‘five’ he showed with his hand meant “It’s Emre’s squad number, he was incredibly disappointed that he picked up the injury and was in a horrible mood. I dedicated this goal to him because I really respect him”. But it does look like Emre’s in Fenerbahce now anyways 🙁
