The People is reporting today that Bolton Wanderers manager Gary Megson wants to take Joey Barton on a season-long loan deal.
Joey Barton – season long loan at Bolton?
Barton recently was reported to have refused to take a £30K/week pay cut when Newcastle gave him an option that would allow him to stay at the club, after his jailing of 6 months.
Bolton’s manager Megson is now trying to understand if it’s possible to take Barton on loan, and the option on his pay is that the two clubs would share his £60K/week salary.
Bolton would then of course like an option to buy Joey at the end of the loan, at an agreed to price.
But what has Joey done to have Bolton bending over backwards to save his career, and rescue him?
He’s serving jail time for heaven’s sake, and the problems he is in, are all of his own making.
A person in real life would have been sacked long before now, without question, but football is not the normal world it seems.
And Joey still has the Dabo trial for which is is accused of assault and battery, to start on June 30th.
It seems that Megson is willing to take a risk on Barton, despite the enormous baggage he brings with him, but we also know that Kevin wants to give him another chance too, at Newcastle.
Before any of this happens, Newcastle have to decide what they want to do with the player, and we don’t know the answer to that.
We’ll probably not know that until Keegan returns from holiday, and until after his Dabo trial, in all likelihood.
There”s certainly no hurry with Barton in the slammer.
But we find it very strange that the People hints that Newcastle are to blame for Joey’s nightmare at Newcastle, it’s a strange world indeed.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3the ‘people newspaper’ are complete w@nkers
no way should we loan him out and pay half his wages, what would be the point in that?
how about we wait till the dabo trial because he will get further jail time then just sack him
i think legal issues are now stopping us doing so because we offered him the smaller contract but if he gets more jail time it totally changes that

Comment #4chris mort is a top lawyer i think that if there was any chance that barton would get some leveridge from us asking him to half his wages then mort wouldnt have offered him that to stay or offered it in such a way that barton wouldnt have a leg to stand on if he claims unfair dismissal

Comment #6We can sack him and not have to pay him a penny, yet still let Bolton pay his wages whilst on loan. We would still hold his player registration which means we can also ask for a loan fee to Bolton and a transfer fee for somebody who wishes to take him on full time.
Any other course of action is sheer stupidity. Go on NUFC show us you’re not a bunch of mugs……

Comment #7Get rid of Barton asap. Why should Bolton get him on loan without the responsibility of his irresponsible behaviour. Another bust up and they send him back? No way! You want him Bolton – you buy him, warts and all.

Comment #10no. he should either be sold or fired entirely. i know if he goes on loan there’s a chance he’ll be sold and we’ll recoup some cash but if we fire him and retain his registration, any team wanting to buy him will have to stump up the cash, plus we wont have to have him around either.

Comment #11PAY HALF OF HIS WAGES AND BOLTON PAY THE OTHER HALF! SO WE OFFERED HIM HALF HIS WAGES AND HE TURNED IT DOWN. NET RESULT WOULD BE A HAPPY BARTON FULL PAY AND STILL NOT PLAYING FOR US.WHERE IS THE BLOODY LOGIC IN THAT THE PEOPLE IS JUST A DUMB MUPPET PAPER.NO THOUGHT GOES INTO THEIR STORIES.
HE IS JUST A CHAV SCUMMER, IF HE HAD’NT HAD TALENT(NEVER SEEN THAT YET HERE) HE WOULD BE A WALKING ASBO-CAR THIEF. HATE HIM CHUCK HIM IN THE IRISH SEA.now go away he has given me a migraine.

Comment #12Why would we pay 30 grand a week for Bolton to have a player for half the season??? No way, sack as soon as legally plausible.

Comment #13Let me assure everyone here, Bolton Wanderers do not want this guy coming to our club.
He’s a thug, he’s a liability. I think the only way for Joey is going down a league, Bolton are NEVER gonna buy this guy.
We might play unattractive fotoball, doesnt mean we have to sign unattractive players.

Comment #14nobody even knows this reduced wage offer has happened.your calling the media all the names under the sun, which they are.but your beleiving what they say, which is wrong.everyones been whipped into a frenzy again by the media and these blogs, and we dont even know the truth.i accept barton is an idiot who doesnt deserve to play football.but hey,we knew what we were getting in to didnt we.and if he comes out of prison has a couple of good games and scores a few goals .we fickle fans will be applauding it.thats a guarantee

Comment #17I’m sure most bolton fans will agree with me here – WE DON’T WANT BARTON!!!
He’s rubbish, he’s a thug, and he wouldn’t exactly help our reputation!
Kevin nolan and matt taylor are better than him, and that’s saying something!

Comment #18note for those saying sack him and keep his registration
if we fire him we will have to relinquish his registration when he looks to sign for another club as he will be a free agent
would would be force to provide it by the FA
personally i would wait and see what happens with the pending court case, most probably fire him
