News in the News of the World today that Newcastle United winger James Milner is said to want to move to Liverpool.
James Milner – wants to move to Liverpool?
The news is that James has appealed to Newcastle not to block his dream move to Liverpool.
We don’t know if this is true since only last week he was saying how much he was looking forward to next season at Newcastle United under Kevin Keegan.
But there again it’s Sunday again, and it’s the News of the World.
We’re not sure moving to Liverpool is a dream move for any player unless you’re at the very highest level.
Craig Bellamy said it was a dream move for him a couple of years ago and lasted one season, and Peter Crouch, Jermaine Pennant, John Arne Riise and even Steve Finnan are now finding it hard to get a game on Anfield.
In our active poll, on what Newcastle fans feel about keeping Milner, with just 261 votes in, 69% want him to stay. If you haven’t yet voted please do so on the right.
If it is true that James wants to leave, Newcastle can always try to get some good players in return.
Maybe Peter Crouch and/or Steve Finnan, both of whom we think would make our squad stronger.
We also like Jack Hobbs, the young 19 year-old 6’3″ center-back, who looked solid when we saw him play for the Reds a couple of times last season.
We’d need to work out a player swap deal and who would pay the extra cash.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Not sure if anyone else will agree but I think theres very little point posting anything regarding the News of the World rumours on a Sunday. Utterly a waste of everyones time.

Comment #3Bentley coming out and saying he wants to leave Blackburn may be doing us a favor though…
Liverpool are skint but if they can afford Bentley then they will go for him ahead of Milner

Comment #5The story appeared in more than one paper, the express, the mail and the people all had it. So its probably been leaked by someone involved. Milner for Pennant sounds like a good deal for me, but then I’m a Liverpool fan. Milner is more cosistent and more hard-working and scores more goals. Pennant can be brilliant, but not often enough.

Comment #6They wont offer up Crouch in a deal. They already have 10mil on the table from portsmouth, and I dont want Riise or Pennant. Riise has been crap the past 2 seasons and Pennant is a tool.
Our midfield is bad as is, we dont need to be sending Milner away.
Regardless whether he wants out or not. I wouldnt sent him to Ratpool.

Comment #8I hope the rumours aren’t true! We need to keep hold of the few good players we have and focus on bringing in quality like Cuellar, Turan, Van Der Vaart and Arshavin.

Comment #10There are 2 reasons why he wants Liverpool
1-Team from his dreams
2-Lack of ambitions from our club
I hope ts the first one imo.

Comment #12Liverpool will go for Bentley over Milner.
The thing is with Milner, he just goes about his business on the field in such an unassuming way he sometimes is overlooked by people.
I believe he should stay as he is a superb team player. His work ethic and commitment are second to none. After they way the club messed him about a couple of seasons ago you have to say you wouldn’t have blamed him for wanting to leave. But instead, he got his head down and produced consistent good performances.
He isn’t going to grab the headlines as much as other players, and he hasn’t got the flair of Bentley. But you know he is never going to let the club down and that is exactly the type of player we need to keep the upturn on the club going.
Hopefully it is just another NOTW ‘story’.

Comment #13id be gutted if he was going to team who we were going to be competing against for league position etc.
but if liverpool think they will compete for the league by signing milners then there in for a big shock.
imo people love milner becuase he works hard and is a good lad not becuase hes an outstanding player, given money i reckon it would be easy to find a better quality player, but on a budget you would strugle to find a better squad player.

Comment #15I’m far more worried about these Spurs rejects being linked to us. I think that Paul Kemsley guy has way too much influence over Ashley.
Getting 7M for Milner would be great, but certainly no swap deals other than Babbel or Kuyt.
Arshavin, Turan, Van der Vaart, Larsson, Gomis, Sahin, Chermitti is where we should be doing our business.
Outs should be Duff, Smith (certainly ahead of Shola), Geremi, Cacapa, Viduka.

Comment #16Looks like his agent or someone is pushing hard to earn his commission…
Crouch would be a good call as Viduka is not getting any younger – and he’d link up brilliantly with Owen… but Harry looks keen and will probably pay at least £10m now that he’s in Europe.
Pennant is not much of a risk – he’s been pretty good over the last season or two – but like Crouch – needs to feel as though he’s wanted rather than always being on trial.
Riise is heading to Roma.
Guthrie is pretty good and Liverpool may well regret not keeping him. He’s too good for Bolton!!
Better to have players wanting to prove themselves rather than want-aways.

Comment #18Simple. If he wants Liverpool and not NUFC sell him for 7m. If he wants NUFC then stay and develop with us. Either way – let us hear it from him and the club and NOT the gutter press.

julio geodio hit the nail on the head there that he never lets people down works hard and showed some loyalty to us when he put his head down and worked hard top lad, if he leave then he deserves to play at a high level, if he stays then i will also be pleased because he is a good footballer

Comment #25If i was Milner i would probabley think the same. Hes no Newcastle fan after all.
We bought him and have shipped him out to Villa, nearly sold him to Boro and are not coming out and telling Pool where to go!
Well sod it, if you dont want me i’ll go and play Champions league football……sounds like a no brainer to me.
Is there anyone at SJP these weeks, i know its holiday season, but you think someone would be able to just put out a few sound bites, other than the clubs insider of course. I’m not talking, every other rumour needs to be responded to like in FFS days, but hello anyone there at all?
Sounds like a good time to ran sack the place if you ask me, no body there……and before any smart alec says it, i know theres no bloody silver ware to nick!

Comment #26steven1979, we just got kiesling thanks to our new coach. Well we didn’t even get him yet and he has played down all rumours…!
Anyways ye we’re poor as hell! 40m in debt while our rivals are announcing 65m euro transfer budgets and 301m dollar incomes per year… We couldn’t pay our players’ wages for 2 months. Besides who the hell is Kiesling? (Would anyone rate him? I don’t really know much about him to be honest) The board promised us big names and this is what we get. If they do sell Arda like this there’s going to be a riot.

Comment #27I like milner but if the news is true that we are leading the chase for arshavin then im afraid he can go! if l’pool are really interested though i think we should get them to go a bit higher than the 7mil price i have heard quoted

Comment #36Btw just a few pieces of news on Newcastle targets in the Turkish media these days.
Besiktas officially confirmed to the stock market that they have made a serious bid for Nuri Sahin.
And Besiktas are also after Gomis, but I wouldn’t take that rumour seriously. However it seems every club in the world is being linked with Gomis meaning you guys probably wouldn’t have much of a chance if he really is going somewhere else especially after having signed that new contract :S

Comment #37I’m not sure about Big Sam’s comments.
He said he has taken every club hes been at forward. Really?????
However he did say Newcastle was an unfortunate experience, so thats contradictory then.
Contradictory sums up his time at Newcastle for me.
He said he doesnt play long ball…..when the going got tough he bloody did and it took KK weeks to get it out of the system.
He comes up with the latest high-tec equpiment for fitness and Duff said they feel more fit now KK has changes training!
Sorry its plain to see Big Sam is very bitter about his time here at Newcastle, but so are most of the fans!

Shouldn’t be anywhere near our starting 11 next season.

Comment #40well lads i think selling milner is a bad move coz i think he may not be the best player in the world but he always trys and put in some gud performances last season and is young enough to improve, but in retrospect if liverpool and cl football came callin then his head will probably be turned cant blame the lad for that…..
