There are persistent media reports that Tottenham Hotspur central defender Anthony Gardner could be heading to Newcastle United.
Anthony Garner – is he good enough for Newcastle United?
The 27-year-old has found his opportunities at White Hart Lane somewhat restricted since joining the club from Port Vale in 2000.
He was was loaned out to Everton only last January, but didn’t make a single appearance for the Liverpool-based club.
Gardner has just one full England cap following his substitute appearance against Sweden in March 2004, but since the arrival of new manager Juande Ramos, he now looks ready to move on from the London club.
Gardner is 6’5″ tall, has played a total of 114 games for Spurs with two goals, and was born in Stafford, in September of 1980.
He looks a decent enough player, but does not have a very good injury record in his time in London.
But if he isn’t good enough to get into the Tottenham or Everton teams, is he what we want at Newcastle this summer?
We don’t think so.
What do you think?

– Recruit a manager that will fill the seats of SJP no matter what
– Raise ticket prices
– Allow other teams to sign all of our “targets”
– Sign rejects on the cheap from other clubs
– Move extraordinarily slow in the transfer market to avoid spending much money

Comment #8Is anyone else annoyed that Arshavin could already be a NUFC player if we just acted in January? I dont rate him as highly as some on here, but the price then was 6million, now it is likely to be around double (pretty ironic considering the board probably didnt want to buy anyone due to the january transfer window having a history of staging inflated price purchases)

Comment #9Gardner is crap he cannot get a game a Spurs, he cannot get a Game at Everton, I don’t think there is a chance in Hell that we will sign him.
This is just speculation because there is nothing else to write about, so lets wind up the Geordies they always bite.

Comment #13Rumours that we want to sign a Spurs trio of Chimbonda, Gardner and Dawson are both sickening and frightening.

Comment #15I don’t feel comfortable with the club being linked to the likes of Chimbonda and Gardner but if we sign them we have to get behind them. Period.
Too many people forget that they can’t be much worse than the dross on offer at the moment.

Comment #21I think Chinbonda is a good footballer, the only problem is his attitude shown. Well, at least that is what were reported by the press. For Gardner, no, I just don’t think he is good enough.
