Stephen Carr Seems Spoiled For Choice

June 16th, 2008 · 26 Comments

Newcastle former right-back Stephen Carr appears to have a choice to make between West Ham, Bolton and Portsmouth this summer.

Stephen Carr - 3 Premier clubs after him

The former Republic of Ireland defender left St James’ Park at the end of last season, after his contract expired and was not renewed by Newcastle.

With Stephen now a free agent and lots of experience in the Premier League, it’s not surprising teams are after him.

Bolton appear to need a proven right-back, while Pompey and West Ham are looking for back-ups to Glen Johnson and Lucas Neil respectively.

It doesn’t look like Carr would be a starter at the Hammers or Portsmouth, so probably the best he can do is move to Bolton Wanderers.

Carr, who is 31, was hardly ever fit to play at Newcastle, since his transfer from Spurs in July, 2004, when Bobby Robson was still manager.

And it seems like the club is letting a lot of our high wage earners leave, who have really not been contributing to the club much.

These also include Emre, Rozehnal and probably Joey Barton, who is currently in jail.  :(

Comments welcome.

Yawn, it really is getting boring now ED!!!!

Can we please forget about this wastrel.

Carr’s agent has been drumming up ‘interest’ in him for years but the fact is no one wants an overweight, slow, injury prone, joke-of-a-defender mercenary at their club.

news is so dull this morning, theres nothing interesting apart from the fixtures. The press have run out of lies i think

i HATE THIS GUY WITH A PASSION. i remember when he left spurs and said he was joining a big club, which made me smile. but he has been pants ever since. I cant remember him having one good game. I thought he might vhave to drop down a division or go to scotland to get a game. He has made a fortune out of newcastle without putting in any effort.

    Luke…
Sounds like most of our signings at the back over recent years!

Ed, please dont copy any stories from the comical today.

we already know we have man united first game and no one cares what mick quinn thinks.

alan oliver has no access anymore so he resorts to getting quotes from old timers.

    bollox

Amazing isn’t it! See, we complain when we get linked with players like Chimbonda yet supposedly good Prem clubs are lining up for Carr!

If I was Stephen Carr and, God willing, I never will be, I would be taking the pay day at West Ham or Pompey (whoever is prepared to pay the most). That way, I would never have to risk injuring myself by having to play regular football.

If I were a footballer who wanted to play football, and had a conscience, I’d go to Bolton and try and stay out of the sick bay.

He does have a choice, but it really doesn’t look like a tough one….

  • 14 ToonKing // Jun 16, 2008 at 14:32

well the interest in Carr is warranted….after all, he is a good player………….. lol..

  • 15 Ian // Jun 16, 2008 at 14:46

The way things are going we may look back and think he was one of our better players.

Likely to be replaced by another carlisle united player, why didnt Ashley just buy Carlisle United and be done with it, easy option, dont want to pay premiership fooballer wages, dont buy a premiership football club.

Mark Hughes was very succesful on a tight budget, but it even tired him out and he has moved to a club with a bigger budget, speaks volumes really.

  • 22 The Entertainers // Jun 16, 2008 at 18:01

Dont really care where he ends up to be honest. I’m pleased hes no longer at our club and taking a big fat wage packet for doing very little.

Shame really as i thought when Bobby signed him, i thought he was a good player!

  • 23 Punk Skunk // Jun 16, 2008 at 18:10

The one good thing Carr did was score the goal that broke our shit run away to southampton!..
    …Ta for that Steve!..

…It was a rocket launcher aswell!..

  • 24 Danny // Jun 16, 2008 at 18:29

I really really don’t understand this….He is the worst right back in the league!

Injury prone, Fat, Slow, Small and gives the ball away! Why would anybody want this man! Hes never had a good game in 4 year!

    Baffling….

  • 25 ende // Jun 16, 2008 at 23:18
