First Interview With Derek Llambias – Keegan The Man

New Newcastle Managing Director Derek Llambias has today reaffirmed owner Mike Ashley’s backing for manager Kevin Keegan, after taking over the reins of the Newcastle United Board today.

Chris Mort and Derek – this is the only photo we have of Llambias

The club has finally confirmed Chris Mort’s departure as Chairman today, with Derek Llambias being handed the title of and new position of Managing Director by Ashley. We assume that’s an equivalent job to a CEO (Chief Executive Officer).

And in his first interview today, Derek has insisted manager Keegan is the right man for the manager job on Tyneside – we certainly agree with that.

Derek was interviewed this morning:

“Since coming to work at Newcastle United, I have quickly begun to appreciate the passion people have for the club,”

“I firmly believe we have the right people with the right expertise, with Kevin Keegan back as manager, and being fully supported by Mike Ashley and the directors, to take the club forward again.”

“At the same time, I’d like to pay tribute to all of the hard work done by Chris during his time at St James’ Park and wish him every success for the future.”

These remarks further shoot down the phantom rift at the club that the popular press has been trying to create, ever since Dennis Wise was appointed Director of Football at the club in January.

West Ham fan Llambias apparently had a box at St James’ Park last season, and had been Managing Director of the Fifty London casino before joining Newcastle last month as Deputy Chairman.

Keegan has already said OK to the transfers of Emre, David Rozehnal, Peter Ramage and Stephen Carr, and it looks like WBA are yet another club in for striker Shola Ameobi, who will be leaving the club in the summer.

Kevin, with the aid of Dennis Wise, will now start the task of bringing new players into the club.

That task will tell the fans just what type of player Newcastle can still attract this summer, but we think we’ll all be pleasantly surprised.

We hope so, anyway.

A great start for Derek Llambias would be to announce some new players, get the fans on his side and show the fans (us lol) they are backing KK with actions (and money).

Our pre-season starts soon so we really need some new faces in the team especially since we’ve let so many go already and some players still to leave.

Chelsea are listening to offers for SWP

Blackburn said the highest bidder can have Bentley

Zenit said pay them £11million and Arshavin is ours

Galatasary said pay them £13 million and Turan is ours

Sporting Lisbon said pay them £18 million and Veloso is ours

St Etienne said pay them £14 million and Gomis is ours.

Step up to the plate Mr Ashley and Mr Llambias and start ticking off this list now!

First kick out geremi, emre, duff, smith, barton..
all 60k per week which is total waste and we can save 300k per week only from this 5 guys….and remember that we can still cut wages from owen pay cut, sell milner or even sell shay given( we have harper and krul)….then we need to buy 8 new players…
    1) Metzelder ( 2m loan)
    2) Shorey
    3) Turan
    4) Gomis
    5) Bullard
    6) a very gud RW
    7) a gud midfielder who can play both DM and AM ( a replacement for jail bound Barton)
    8)A top class AM

I think its quite obvious that Ashley isn’t going to give transfer funds outside of what the club can generate, so you can forget the £80m or so that all those players you list James being bought. It just wont happen.

I think the £20m budget banded around the press wont be too far off the mark to be honest. Which means that the sale of Ameobi, Emre, Rozenhal, Smith, Duff and Milner will have to come up with as much as possible.

Which is way players such as Larsson, Derdiyok and maybe Cueller will be good value all around the £5m mark. I dont think we will sign more than one £10m player this summer. If we do I hope its Arshavin, reminds me of Beardsley.

@Hate Prawn – We are officially the only club to bid for Veloso (£14 million) and were told to come back with £18 million. They have received no other official bids.

Bentley said he’s been told he will be sold to the highest bidder regardless of his ambitions.

    Veloso DM or CB Cover
    Arshavan, Van Der Vaart
Arda Turan with cover from Zog for LW or AM

You shouldn’t lose faith with Turan deal, both us and Everton have been given permission to speak to him after the Euros. We are both the highest bidders

Personally I would break the bank to sign Bentley. No other player would get the best out of our best players than him.

With all Owen’s brilliant late runs into the box, and Martin’s pace behind defenders, just imagine how many goals the pair of them would score with Bentley’s consistent ability to pick out a pass and cross the ball better than anyone else

Yes, he has quite an ego, but for the team to be great you need players who compliment the best ones you have and NO-ONE would do that better than Bentley.

Make Blackburn an offer they can’t refuse. We did it before with Shearer, now the time has come to do it again…

James – When did we bid for Veloso? and 14 Mill is a pretty hefty bid, if we could make that extra 4 Mill that would be excellent!

Ahh right, i didn’t know – was there an article on here? Do you reckon he is worth the extra 4 Mill? it’s not alot more but then it brings the total up to 18 Mill, i don’t think Veloso is worth that personally.

James I understand your thinking but I have to agree with the other lads I really can’t see him coming, the main reason wages!! more chance with SWP and Keegan has admitted that he would like him at NUFC!!!

    BUT DONT GIVE UP DREAMING!!!!

Everybody said we were wasting our time trying to get Owen. But we made a bid his club couldn’t refuse. Clubs sell players, not players selling themselves.

Reports in Russia today said we have bid £9 million for Arshavin, but Man City are bidding the asking price of £11 million.

farted around with the turan deal.???

i dont get it. how do people expect him to discuss and sign for another club when he is currently playing for turkey in the euros.

    we havent farted around.

the silence your hearing is the sound of a club being run properly for a change.

the fact we are not used to our club being ran properly has led us all to work on the assumption we most be doing nothing in the transfer market.

i think we should all get used to being ran like a proper business.

would you rather we had someone like harry redknapp who openly speaks of the players he would like.

firstly that is very unprofessional and secondly it alerts every one else of your intentions in the transfer market.

be happy with the situation and done always assume the worst.

wait and see what happens. players will arrive!

i don’t thing money’s the issue…10m? 15m? does it really matter if you’re a billionaire?? the only ashley’s goal is to put newcastle where it belongs…

i think we should go after:
    cuellar
    sakho
veloso (although i think he’s not worth 18m, 12 tops, but we do need a DMC…any suggestions??)
    arshavin
    arda/larsson
gomez/gomis (not too sure about them anymore…gomez has been horrible so far, so i think we should just sign BERBATOV…problem solved) 🙂

Just one other point, especially to Azim: do you honestly think your 8 players would come in for less than 60k a week? Several of them would be approaching Owen-level salaries, even if we could land them.

It’ll happen – we’ll get good players – but there’s some really dodgy thinking on this thread in terms of football finance!

It depends on the way you think, Yes Gomez hasnt had a good tournament! less interest from other clubs? but has played out of his socks for Stutgard! IMO he is a better player that gomis and at 13 -14mill would be a fantastic signing!!!
