Didier Digard Has Signed For Middlesbrough

News in the French newspaper Le Parisien today is confirming that Premier League side, Middlesbrough, have signed Paris St Germain midfielder Didier Digard.

Didier Digard – signed for Middlesbrough

The 21-year-old joined Paris St Germain from Le Havre in 2007, and has played for France at all levels from under-15, with a call-up to the full squad expected soon.

Middlebrough Manager Gareth Southgate had admitted that Didier was one of his targets, and we knew a couple of days back that Middlesbrough were talking to the player.

Le Parisien claims the deal has been done at around £4.6M (€5.7m).

While it’s not 100% certain, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all, if the Frenchman is now a Middlesbrough player, and it would be an excellent signing for the Teesside club.

Six days ago we had an article out with the headline – Middlesbrough Beating Newcastle To Young Digard and saying that if Newcastle were really keen on the player we had better move quickly.

PSG had apparently wanted £6.3M, and there was news that the deal had fallen through because Middlesbrough had not met PSG’s price.

Newcastle United and Portsmouth are were also claimed to have been tracking Digard, but these two sides, let’s face it, seem to be linked with almost every player who is available this summer. 😀

However, we think Didier is a very good player in the making, and at 21 years old seemed to fit the type of player that Mike Ashley had wanted to bring to the Tyneside club.

But it looks like it’s too late now with Dider, and we expect the Ligue 1 player is on his way to the Riverside Stadium.

Comments welcome.

who cares, he hasnt signed for us and thats all that matters.
hopefully we’re doing everything under wraps, and not just failing in every attempt like it seems.
if bentley actually does end up at spurs then its clear they’re drugging players into signing on the dotted line.

It comes down to whether we wanted this guy or not. I know nothing about him. If we wanted him and lost out to the smoggies, thats lame.
But I honestly dont think this guy was near the top of our list.

Reading the setanta article, I get the feeling Owen is going to see what we bring in before deciding whether to stay or not.

Gues we didn´t want him… As you said Ed, we have been linked with every player possible this summer, and every one of them just can´t be a real target, just paper talks…

Arshavin from start against Sweden, will be nice to se if he is something special on this level… But hope e has a terrible game today, good for sweden, and makes it a bit easier for us to buy him maybee =)

    But they haven’t so I don’t!

He will be just another player with no passion or ability for them! Mido anyone? haha

Hope he likes playing in front of 10,000 fans!

Wise is doing his job as well as expected then! Official announcements left right and centre about other clubs signing players, even Mark Hughes is just about ready to start and he has barely signed himself!

What did I tell you about France dumping their experienced players, writing was on the wall expect Cisse back in next time and possibly one or two of the other dumped players. Young players that is the way to go, all in one go!! Going to cost the French coach his job.
Us relegation if we follow suit.

    Arshavin, Arshavin, Arshavin!!!!

    He just destroyed Sweden.

At 27, he may be older than they want, but really, if we got him it would do so much to make sure we have a positive season.

Ok, so I am guessing that if the players should get the wages according to the performance, then also the “Experts” should get the same deal.

If Wise don’t get the players, then he dosn’t get any money. right ?! thats the new way in Newcastle?

I don’t know about you guys, but I am frustrated.

What about Gomis? France is out, less attention on Gomis right ?! good for us ?!

The player I would still go for is Farfan.. he’s out the picture this summer so won’t be getting the headlines or price tags of European targets… plays on the right of midfield or behind a front two… perfect replacement for Milner… in case yees need reminding..

I’ m over the moon Rise has signed for Roma.

Have one or two Pool friends and they thought it as hilarious we were attempting to sign him.

Never rated him much as a defender, more a midfielder. Would rather we signed Shorey and just to be controvertial i’d start him in front of Enrique!

    Its all about opinions

Watching Euro 2008 I do not think Gomis is the player for us, he would work as an Owen replacement not on the field with Owen. I hope we arent signing him, I want to see a player who can run past defenses, he is very static and appears to rely on his fast reactions to score, not on pace or movement. I put his poor touch etc down to the occassion of Euro 2008 as others on here tell me he is a good player, however on the back of an excellent on form year I would expect more, older players would have been booed off the pitch with better than that performance and have been this year.
We need another Martins for the opposite side of goal.

    @ Ian

i understand fans clammering for exciting players in the mould of Martins or even Owen.

But for the sake of the team you need different options and Gomis or players like him can offer this. Martins or Owen will not hold the ball up and this is why we look more imposing when Viduka plays. He frees up Owens and Martins to cause trouble. With these two in our side i dont believe we need another player of similar style

It does take an unselfish player to do this role and i just dont know whether Gomis would be willing to sacrifice his ‘main striker’ role for Newcastle.

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

The entertainers- i agree with most of what you say except Martins, i think he holds the ball up well on the left, but the problem is he is so far in front of the rest of the field, and so often in a game that he still has to pass the ball backwards, if we had a similar pace striker on the opposite side of goal hopefully he would already be in place for the pass.

I feel that most of the positives of martins are wasted when there isnt another quick player on the pitch, I think that is why Zog looked good because he was up with him alone most of the time.

I always wondered what Zog would be like played as a striker, no one tried it, trouble is he is on the same side of the pitch as martins and martins isnt keen on playing the other side where Allerdyce shoved him.

I know where your coming from, at times last season Manu looked fantastic with 3 creative players in Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez and when your playing well its great.

But firstly were not Manu and there was times at the back end of the season when Manu were struggling in games and Fergie brought on Saha and they looked a completely different side. I do believe Fergie will sign a striker who can hold the ball up or offer something different from his current 3.

And thats my point with Newcastle, with the money available i would buy a different style of striker to what we currently have, as Viduka will not last and Shola is all but gone.

But hey its all about opinions mate.

Entertainers – absolutely agree on opinions, plus of course adding a different midfield can change the whole way the team plays and an outstanding player one year may not fit with another set up.

I still like a player who can run past defenders though, really would like to have seen a Cisse Bellamy type player signing up, then if the midfield is another load of international wasters we still have a chance of scoring. without the likes of Martins as the ‘motor’ in the side it would have been a very static team.
Interesting to see if Keegan brings the wingers in to play somehow next season, cant see as it is how Zog and milner are going to fit in, unless they move more central.

While we have Viduka I think we have to stick with him, if he ever goes Ashton is the perfect replacement if his injury history improves between now and Viduka retiring/leaving.
I dont think we should or can double up on strikers, i suppose what your really saying is Viduka should have gone and someone like Ashton should have replaced him and we should be looking for my type of player in addition?

I just want to see two positive signings quickly, a scoring defender and a scoring proven midfielder and i will relax a bit, horrified to think what sort of additional striker we may end up with when the team seems to think Carroll is good enough for our first team.
