Breaking News That Ameobi May Join Norwich

June 18th, 2008 · 55 Comments

There are reports coming out of Norwich, principally from Rivals.net , that the Norwich City club may be close to a deal to sign Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi.

Shola Ameobi - moving to Norwich City?

Rivals.net is reporting that a source close to the Norwich club, suggests that Newcastle’s Shola Ameobi could be set for a move to Norwich, in a deal worth around £3.5m

The Nigerian born striker  has already been linked with Stoke City, Ipswich Town, Hull City and WBA for the same amount.

It wouldn’t surprise us in the least if Shola moved to Norwich, because we believe he would just love to work again with Glenn Roeder, just love it.

Glenn was able to get the very best out of Ameobi, while managing Newcastle, and Shola averaged about a goal every 2 games for the former West Ham manager.

The only problem with Norwich was whether they could afford the fee of around £4M, and whether they could match Shola’s wage demands.

We think if they can do that then Shola would jump at the chance to join them, and could do very well for the East Anglia club.

The players agent, Steve Denos has already admitted that Norwich would be an attractive prospect for his client, and that Shola would have no worries teaming up with former Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder.

We’ll keep a check on the local Norwich papers and web sites, to see if anything else breaks on this news.

Comments welcome.

  • 6 HeronMag // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:30

    Will he just GO.

  • 7 Matthew // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:32

I can see him retiring when his contract runs out here at the end of the season.

  • 8 Chris // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:36

I wouldn’t blame him if he stayed and saw his contract out. I’m not saying its the right thing but it would be his last chance to earn big money.
There’s always a chance Keegan may get the best out of him also.

Never lived up to his potential, far too laid back. Just go Shola, you’ve got no future here.

im gutted he will be a great player in the future

  • 30 The Entertainers // Jun 18, 2008 at 17:53

Glad to see a few good lucks on the blog, which i endorse, rather than the few short minded fools who just cant wait to see the back of him.

Hes grown up here local and has supported NUFC since childhood. Made it further than most at Newcastle and has just come short to be honest, but hey the lad has given us some moments of joy.

In all honesty it is time to move on and i’m sure Shola knows this better than most.

    Once again Shola, good luck

  • 31 Ross // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:01

ive just heard on talksport that david bentley to spurs is almost a done deal.
how are they managing this :(

  • 32 harrier // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:03

I wasn’t being shortminded about his contribution, but he has put the brakes on at least three 4m that its about time he decided to join somebody

  • 33 The Entertainers // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:13

    OWEN TALKS !!!!!!!

Setanta.co.uk have spoken with him at the races and he believes his contract will be tied up in a month or two………there like bloody buses these contract at Newcastle….

  • 37 Davies // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:25

Perhaps this is the best way to say it.

Good luck Shola, I genuinely wish you well wherever you sign.

    Now F*CK OFF.

  • 38 tommyy // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:27

Because they are in Europe and in London. I hope they just implode or something.

  • 39 Spyro // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:35

they are managing it because Chelsea were interested but now they have a new manager and there is no stability for the players there. Tottenham is the only other option as he wants to live in london again apparently. He aint exactly gonna go back to Arsenal is he. Tottenham are simply not letting opportunities pass them by, unlike us, we are s**t! lol

  • 40 Spyro // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:38

If tottenham sign bentley along with a new striker (possibly podolski) they will undoubtedly be the best team outside of the top 4 and WILL MOST DEFINITELY challenge for a champions league space.

so far all of their buys since January have improved their squad and it is likely to continue

  • 41 Geordie Nick // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:41

if they sign bentley and another striker they will be better than l’pool

  • 42 Tom_Toon // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:43

    And a goalie.

But they will fail again, bottom half for them.

  • 43 Spyro // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:44

no i dont think so Geordie Nick, Liverpool are still ahead. plus they too will sign good players in the summer

  • 44 Spyro // Jun 18, 2008 at 18:45

yes thats right, a goal keeper aswell

  • 45 harrier // Jun 18, 2008 at 19:02

  • 47 harrier // Jun 18, 2008 at 19:18

  • 48 geordie genius // Jun 18, 2008 at 19:54

YER THAT SLOW YOU WILL CATCH BIRD FLU DOON THERE!-TWAT.

  • 49 Ben // Jun 18, 2008 at 20:43

He’ll sign for Norwich, score a few goals, then the Makems will sign him as the next Drogba for £10m

  • 50 Aussie Dave // Jun 19, 2008 at 7:06

sell him and use the 3.5m to top up either the Arda or Arshavin bids.

Get those 2 lads here quickly

  • 51 Leo // Jun 19, 2008 at 8:00

bye bye dont let the door knock your ass as you leave

  • 52 Will // Jun 19, 2008 at 9:02

    Hi guys!
Ameobi is perfectly suited for the Championship and, in all honesty, i would rather see him join GR and LC at Norwich than anyone else. I hope the deal goes through!

What’s the crack with the Emre deal? i heard he might be being called up to the army or summit daft?

  • 53 The Entertainers // Jun 19, 2008 at 9:20

    regarding Emre

Most of the better papers today are stating the Emre deal will go through.

The delay is due to Emre needing to have worked in the UK for 3 years. That period is almost there.

The reason is, if Emre has played in a different coutry for 3 or more yrs he will only have to do 21 days national service instead of a few months.

Emre and his new club are just boxing clever, the deal will go through. Can you imagine the egg on Fener’s face if it didnt, after Emre was pictured in their shirt!

Bring back national service here too !!
Damn theres my soap box again.

  • 54 scottish mag // Jun 19, 2008 at 9:40

emre isnt on the squad list on the official website though so maybe the deal has already been completed

  • 55 keith // Jun 19, 2008 at 10:05

Good Shola! He might not of been the most talneted player but he gave his all and hope he does well for norwich and gleen roeder!

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
