Newcastle Show Interest In Blackburn’s Samba

News today that Newcastle United are interested in Blackburn Rovers’ powerful defender Samba.

Christopher Samba – Big Daddy – shown with his young son 😀

We think Kevin will bring in two center-backs over the summer to compensate for the loss of Ramage, Diatta and Rozehnal, and there is news this morning the club may target Samba.

The Congolese international has looked an excellent player in the heart of the Blackburn defense, since his ₤400L move from German club Hertha Berlin in January of last year.

At 6’5″ tall he is also good in the air, but we have also seen news that Mark Hughes may try to take him to his new club, Manchester City.

If that’s the case it may be hard to persuade Samba to move to Tyneside.

Blackburn will want at least ₤4M for the defender, but the price could end up significantly higher if indeed City and Newcastle both really want the player.

We’ve liked the look of Samba when he’s played for Blackburn, and he was another great signing by Mark Hughes, and it shows you don’t have to pay huge transfer fees to get players who can star in the Premier League.

Samba was born in March of 1984, in Créteil, Val-de-Marne, France, and has represented the Congo 20 times and played for Blackburn 47 times with 4 goals.

Comments welcome.

I really really rate this guy. His run-in wasn’t as great, but for 3/4 of the season, he was immense. His quoted price of 4m pounds is ridiculously low. Sign him up!!

Upson is another good shout in my opinion. I thin Upson-Samba would be a really really strong CB pairing, but I doubt we will get both.. I think Keegan will only sign 1 CB and stick with New CB, Faye, Taylor, Edgar (Cacapa)

This Samba fella seems a worthwhile target. We do need another CB. Right age, right experience, and seems to have the quality we seek. Buy him in case Fat Sam gets hold of him.

We’d have a really strong, tall defence with him and Faye.
Would lack a bit of pace and mobility, but then if we bring in Cuellar as well, we’d have a pretty flexible defence for once.

Absolute monster in defence. Him and Faye are similar players, and the right type of CB’s to be paired with Taylor. Alot of similarilities between Cueller and Samba, notice the trend anyone?

The 2nd CB needs to be a quick and agile CB, who can jocky the likes of Ronaldo, Adebayor, Torres etc etc.

    Why not.
Samba and Cueller for about £9M.
Could also bring in the Hungarian as cover and one for the future to see how he develops.

Samba has been brilliant for B’Burn.

Would be a good buy but they wouldn’t sell him for cheap

Samba i like, he’s my kind of defender, he’s an absolute monster and i would love to get him. Although Faye – Samba would be an immense back line it would be a slow and somewhat immobile defense so i still feel we need a “smart” defender, who can read the game well and is mobile, somone in the mold Collocinni,Mexes, Chivu.

RIISE is reported to be definitely going to ROMA in the NORWEGIAN PAPERS yesterday,
Wasn`t a likely target for us with his wages i would think!!!!!!!!!

This would be a good signing, strong and powerfull and used to the Premiership but depends he may be a bit expensive if we can get him for 4mill that would be good.

Rather have Samba than Cueller. At least Samba is proven EPL quality!

    Geordie Nick,
    Why not ?
3 centre backs for @ £10M and prob wages that fit into the new structure.
Big squads are required these days. Let the two hungarians develop in the reserves for a few years and provide cover if required.
We also need a couple of good full backs as cover, not forgetting the midfield of course.

Who wouldn’t want him? He proved to be one of the best defenders of the season (after a patchy first few months)

frankieboy- im not saying we dnt need 3, but i dnt see kk spendin money on 3 ne cb’s when we already have taylore, faye, cacapa and possibly 2 new ones, kk will buy only what he needs in defence, nothing more, and the rest will be on atttack

Very good player. Very few who can outmuscle the lad and his aerial presence is immense.

Has been an absolute revelation for Blackburn this season. Simply can’t believe he only themcost 400k!

He’s strong, powerful and athletic, and is good on the ball – perfect for the premier league!

Does this mean that our interest in Richard Dunne has cooled? I hope not – the two of them would be form a great partnership – the best we’ve had for years.

Shoring up our defense is top priority IMO this close season, and these two would be perfect.

    Get it done Kevin!
