Sky Sports is reporting today that Newcastle United are interested in Hamburg defender Guy Demel.

Demel has already admitted he is flattered by Newcastle United’s reported interest.
Demel signed for Hamburg from Borussia Dortmund in 2005 and impressed for the German club last season, when he played 28 games and scored one goal.
The center-back is currently on international duty with the Ivory Coast, for whom he has so far played 7 times.
Manchester City and Portsmouth (who else?) are also rumored to be interested in the player.
While he is usually a center-back, Demel played right back since 2005 for Hamburg, so he may be bought as cover for Habib Beye, and can also play in central defense when needed.
Demel was at Arsenal from 2000-2001, before he joined Borrussia Dortmund, where he stayed until he moved to Hamburg.
He told Sky Sports today:
“I am thinking of Ivory Coast. We are not playing as we should be.”
“My transfer will be talked about soon. The Premier League is a top league.”
“It is good to be linked with famous teams such as Newcastle.”
“We will wait and see.”
Guy was born in France, and he can also play in midfield and turned 27 years old just last Friday.
In 2004 Demel, a French citizen, acquired an Ivorian passport, and he has since been playing for the Ivory Coast.
He played at the 2006 African Nations Cup, and was named to the squad for the 2006 World Cup finals.
We are certainly linked with a lot of players, and Samba and Demel are two new ones just today, but while they may not we well known and be £10M players, they could still do a good job for us at the club.
Demel also seems a really good guy, since he already knows that Newcastle United are a famous team - sign him!

Never heard anything about him. Would have to know about his age, and possible transfer fees before beginning to weigh up whether it would be a good move or not.

Nothing against Africans, but I don’t really want to see too many in our squad. They bugger off for the ACN every other January.
It nearly proved costly this year as the squad was pretty thin anyway.
Don’t know much about this guy, but I’m sure we’re all flattered that he’s flattered.

exactly faustino, which is why i will now try not to judge players on their past and what they have or haven’t achieved in a different league. Someone who is terrible in France may come and set the prem alight if paired with the right team mate, coach or even a decent set of fans

something tells me we aren’t going to sign the well known players we are in for e.g. Turan, Gomis etc but i do however feel we will sign lesser known players who will put in performances just as good as those
…or in gomis’ case, better performances. Has everyone seen him in the Euro, he has been poor, i have never seen him play so poor at St Etienne. He may not cope well under pressure, and as we all know, players who cant cope with pressure are NOT for the toon lol

I’ve seen him couple of times while in Dortmund,he’s Ok but it all depends how much Hamburg will ask for him….He’s not worth more than 2.5mill.

Dear oh dear…the quality of players we are being linked with is getting worse by the day.
We started off at the Modric Level and now it is a chap called Guy Demel…he must own his own suit.
Getting so bored of this lark…If this carries on Mr Ashley will no doubt feel the wrath from the fans come kick off time..it really is not good enough..Mr Ashley your honeymoon is over now..spend or FK OFF !!

Fact is KK was supposed to back from Holiday today and at the office. But he apparently isn’t. Nothing is going to be rubber stamped without KK’s saying so, regardless of what role Wisey plays in the whole recruitment scenario. For all we know, KK could be wrapping up deals today and tomorrow.
It’s very funny how Anal O’Lover is talking to ex players and current players for interviews and material. Nothing from senior management at all. Very quiet on that front, so whats going on?
