Newcastle Told To Increase £2M Offer For Chimbonda

June 18th, 2008 · 63 Comments

Newcastle United bid £2M offer for Spurs full-back Pascal Chimbonda, but that offer was turned down yesterday by the London club.

Pascal Chimbonda - £2M bid turned down by Spurs

Newcastle have been told to increase their offer for the French International, if they want the deal to be completed.

Ever since Juande Ramos arrived at Tottenham last year, it seems like Pacal’s days at the club were numbered, although he still put in some good performances for the side.

Even in January, there was news that Chimbonda was on the verge of a move to St James’ Park, but it failed to materialize before the transfer window closed.

The 29-year-old right-back, who stands at 5′11″ tall, can also play at left back, and would need to compete with Habib Beye if he does move to the Newcastle club.

But he may also be able to tie down a spot at left-back if Newcastle fail to secure a top left back, like Nicky Shorey, in the summer.

Currently 22 year old Spaniard Jose Enrique held down the position once Kevin arrived back at the club, and looks a promising prospect.

But at the very least Chimbonda will add some competition to the full back spots, which has to be a good thing.

We don’t think it will take too much more to secure Chimbonda, but Newcastle cannot let things idle, if we are to bring new players in during the summer.

Aston Villa are also said to be interested in acquiring the player, but Newcastle seem to be in the driving seat, with Chimbonda only too willing to come to Tyneside to join the new Kevin Keegan revolution.

Comments welcome.

    NO!!! NO!!!! NO!!!!

  • 3 tommyy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:03

Please NO! Stick with the promising names we were linked with, he’s crap and a nob.

  • 4 Frankieboy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:03

Tell him and Spurs to take their faces for a shit.
We don’t want the moaning big headed prima donna.have said it before. He still wears gloves in April
    Geordie G
Mentioned it last week Nicky Butt will not have forgotten about that incident. He had better be wearing gloves up here…..boxing gloves.

  • 5 John // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:05

nothing is happening at the moment..It so boring all this speculation and then you see other teams placing bids, getting bids acceppted and what happens with us..nothing , just rumours….getting really tired off this now..

  • 6 ToonKing // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:08

i’m gonna be sick, going after Spurs rejects are we?? ….shite’ how far we have fallen…damn you, Souness and Gullit and co. damn you.

  • 7 broon ale // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:09

i seem to remember back in january he turned around and said, ” if things dont work out here (spurs) i will go to newcastle, Keegan wants me and they will pay me more money”

also, an elephant never forgets and I remember him slapping nicky butt!

  • 8 Toon_Army // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:10

He’s not good enough to lace Beye’s boots. Why do the papers believe that we will believe this rubbish? Why buy another Right Back when we need at least 4 Midfielders, 1 Target Man, 1 Centreback and 1 Left Back before we even look at any other position.

  • 9 tommyy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:10

If he signs I will get him assasinated, simple as that.

  • 10 sas // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:12

We’d be the laughing stock of the Premiership.

  • 11 Frankieboy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:12

Hopefully tabloid speculation am sure KK is setting his sights higher than him.
Why disrupt the dressing room which has just recently recovered from the fat mans era.

  • 12 Frankieboy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:14

    Tommyy
Don;t shoot him in the hands cos his gloves will probably be bullet proof.
Anyone recall him refusing to play at Wigan cos he wanted to go to Spurs.
Need anyone really say any more on the matter.

  • 13 broon ale // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:15

no doubt he will be wearing clothes when the season starts in august.

for that reason alone! I dislike him!

  • 14 broon ale // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:16

tommyy, if you know some good hitmen would you be able to arrange for alan oliver to take a bullet to the head?

  • 15 geordiegraham // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:17

a read somewhere ages ago chelsea will be willin 2 listen 2 offers 4 anelka nd he loved it wen he played under keegan at city but its probly shit from papers again. hes another moanin frenchman

  • 16 Davies // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:17

    Don’t want him. He’s a w@nker.

  • 17 Chicken // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:21

    Bad news!

  • 18 I hate Spuds... and their reject players // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:22

    NO!!……….NO!!……… Just NO!

I wouldnt pay 1m for him let alone 2m +. He’s just a useless whinger.
Did these useless hacks (plus chimbondas agent) that are banding this story around not see his terrible comedy defending last season? Plus his general whinging attitude. Keep him away from SJP!!!

  • 19 b // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:26

    sas; arent we already?

I actually sent an email to the sun on monday asking if there journos make things up or get bad info. I said if they were making it up surely they should be sacked. I have yet to recieve a reply.

I think this story is rubbish. Are we to believe that chimbonda wants to leave spurs cos he cant get a game and join newcastle to sit on our bench instead. He turns out in gloves down there, whats he gonna wear up here. Ear muffs and a feckin balaclava?

  • 20 broon ale // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:27

    chicken, whats bad news?

our offer being rejected for chimbonda?

i would say that was good news!

  • 21 b // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:28

    broon ale re no13.

What.would you prefer him naked? Bit of a poofter are we?

  • 22 tommyy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:28

I shall see what i can do.

  • 23 HeronMag // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:28

He’s a decent player who was excellent for Wigan but could be seriously bad news.

I wouldn’t risk more than £2m. Look elsewhere KK.

Anyone else like the look of the Turkish left back? Think he’s called Hakan?

  • 24 Julio Geordio // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:29

    Money grabbing and over rated.

    Spurs can keep him.

  • 25 Marat18 // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:31

    What Davies said.

    and he wears gloves!

  • 26 Davies // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:31

Don’t want Anelka either. Thinks he’s better than he is and is also a W@NKER!

  • 27 Jimmie // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:33

Shorey would be my prefered choice over Chimbonda

  • 28 Davies // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:36

Does anybody know which council flat NewcastleUnited-mad.co.uk is run from?

If so, can you let broon ale know, so he can send someone round with a shovel.

I hate than site. It’s like rehashed stories (GOSSIP) a few days late, but with a hint of anger to it.

  • 29 tommyy // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:37

The only Turkish defender I would take is Servet, i thought he was quality against the Czechs.

  • 30 geordiegraham // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:38

i agree davies. does any1 else think that rat bloke 4 romania is gd i think hes decent

    http://newcastleutdfc.blogspot.com/2008/06/what-we-need-in-summer-transfer-window_18.html

  • 33 TenExFive // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:54

Why are we trying to sign up so many defenders when we don’t have a World Class striker at the club? We are at our best when we’re scoring goals and I can’t see that happening with an ex-England player who can’t make a goal for himself and little else up front. Score more than they do, that’s how you win, not by stocking the defense up with a bunch of unrated, untested players.

  • 34 Spyro // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:58

would take anelka over any of our strikers any day

  • 35 Geordie Nick // Jun 18, 2008 at 11:58

broon ale- gotta agree with b, u did say in comment 13 tht u dislike chimbonda cos he will be wearing clothes lol

  • 36 broon ale // Jun 18, 2008 at 12:32

    aaaahh, i meant gloves.

    no shirt lifter here

  • 37 Geordie Nick // Jun 18, 2008 at 12:35

lol, i figured thts wat u meant, but still had a little chuckle

  • 38 Glenn_United // Jun 18, 2008 at 12:38

I agree with ya’ll NO NO NO!!!!

BUT WANT executive director Wise SACKED AND KICKED OUT OF THE CLUB HE IS CRAP, and has done nowt at all to help this great club!!!!!!!

    BYE BYE DENNIS WISE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 39 staffsmag // Jun 18, 2008 at 12:55

Why the feck are we bidding for this journeyman clown !!!! I do question the mentality of wise and co. Surely KK can’t want him in the squad !!!! Can he ???????

  • 40 Matthew // Jun 18, 2008 at 12:59

So all of the good players we sign will be Keegan’s signings and all of the poor ones will be down to Wise?

You really couldn’t make this up.

  • 41 Geordie Nick // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:02

staffsmag, i we sign him it will be because KEEGAN wants him not wise, u cant blame everthing bad on wise and anything gd kk gets credit for

  • 42 stk // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:05

if we sign this guy i will be disappointed and he better not start ahead of beye!
    infact… NO!!!!
    ryan taylor instead

  • 43 gorskino10 // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:13

he is pure “Ego” just do not bother with another bid .

  • 44 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:24

The two names mentioned on this blog are two massive steps backward in my opinion. If we must have a sulky frenchman lets have Cisse. Domenchen (I know I’ve got that spelling wrong) was an idiot picking Anelka over him and more of an idiot for playing him.

  • 45 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:27

As a bit of controversy I would have to say that the players (most of them anyway) signed by Sam are better than some of the alleged targets of KK. Perhaps we should have Sam on the R-Squad.

  • 46 Punk Skunk // Jun 18, 2008 at 13:41

    @ Geordie Nick,
yes mate, it’s all too conveniant to blame Wise & not KK…KK doesn’t always buy the obvious players, but he knows what he can get outta them. have a bit of faith lads!..
    …Toon, Toon!..

  • 47 CRAIGG // Jun 18, 2008 at 14:03

Oh Come on Kev theres no doubt Chimbonda a decent full back but a 29 year old loser for £2m from them.

He handed a transfer request to Paul Jewell 5 mins after the end of the season despite the fact that Wigan plucked him from nowhere and got him capped for France, No loyalty, Money grabbing, slapped Nicky Butt and wears gloves in the summer.

Nicky Shorey, 27 year old England international in a position we need numbers in, A left foot to die for and available for £3.5m!

Bill F you might want to change your name if we are going to splash the cash on shite like Chimbonda

  • 48 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jun 18, 2008 at 14:10

Craigg lol, perhaps I had better use “Don’t waste your cash Ash”

  • 49 Craig // Jun 18, 2008 at 14:17

They’ll be a bit of a backlash if he signs. This would be an awful start to our recruiting programme and questions will be asked of Keegan or Wise (whoever is signing these players).

He’s a mercenary! Terrible attitude and not even that good of a player - decent season with Wigan and that’s about it. Would rather have Shorey and keep faith in The Bull!

  • 50 steve // Jun 18, 2008 at 14:27

Don’t buy him - I wouldnt even take him on a free, he’s a whinger who disrupts the dressing room

he’s got sick room written all over him - remember those words if we sign him

  • 51 figsdad // Jun 18, 2008 at 14:31

If we sign him we might as well bring back bellamy and jenas ect…

Both good for moral in the dressing room..

  • 52 HeronMag // Jun 18, 2008 at 15:48

figsdad - to be honest I think Jenas looks like an amazing player at the minute and if he was willing to come back to the ‘goldfish bowl’ I’d take him no question!

  • 53 Punk Skunk // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:05

    We should decrease the offer!..

  • 54 M. Stockley- (dreaming of signing van der vaart) // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:12

he is not the type of player we should be looking at…. bad attitude and at best an average fullback and i dare say he’d want mega bucks……..it would make me sick as a dog if the spuds offloaded their crap on to us when they are making good signings!

  • 55 Ross // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:16

“would take anelka over any of our strikers any day”

spyro, sorry but i’m only willing to beleive that is a horrendous typo.
are you having some sort of joke? lazy, money grabbing mercenary anelka over the likes of martins? who want to try, want to perform, want to please us, and want to win?
    you must be mad mate.

on another note, i joked the other day that chimbonda is the anelka of right back’s, so please, please dont go near this guy toon.

  • 56 Nathan // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:17

He is shit and a dick

if he comes here I will be very disappointed

  • 57 robertsa // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:51

wouldnt want him if he was a free agent. hold out for riise. end the constant rubbish about defenders i pretty much speak for all of us cuellar and collocini are the only 2 we want

  • 58 robertsa // Jun 18, 2008 at 16:53

any news on our eal targets ie turan

  • 59 Punk Skunk // Jun 18, 2008 at 17:08

Riise is off to Roma mate!..
    …Phew!..

  • 60 robertsa // Jun 18, 2008 at 17:35

riise would rather stay in england and he is miles better than shit prick chimbonda

  • 61 Lacedaemonian // Jun 18, 2008 at 17:46

    Hope we look elsewhere now.

  • 62 Gallowgate31 // Jun 18, 2008 at 19:14

Well I’m off to watch Arshavin,

will get drunk’….er and start dreaming of what possible players we can sign to play with him or what he could bring out in the players we have…….

will talk about this for the next 2 days and spend a few weeks feverishley monitoring sky sports and about 15 websites just waiting for the good news.

getting too much to handle now,

  • 63 jake // Jun 18, 2008 at 20:15

no doubt the lad is a little shit, but hes not a bad player, quick, strong, tall, good in the air, good going forward, could be a more than adequate replacement if habib is injured or suspended and can cover all across the back, for 3-4 mill id take him any dya of the week

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
