There is news emerging out of London, and on various web sites, saying that Blackburn’s David Bentley has signed for Spurs.
David Bentley – signs for Tottenham?
Tottenham emerged as strong favorites to sign David Bentley from Blackburn, after the England winger, who used to be at Arsenal, said he wanted to return to London.
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan had initially targeted Bentley when he returned to Newcastle in January.
But Bentley grew up as a Spurs fan, and it is understood that he had set his sights on a dream move to White Hart Lane.
The 23-year-old has also been linked with with moves to Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as newcastle United in January.
Bentley has said he wants to play in European competition next season, and Tottenham have qualified for the UEFA Cup, by winning the League Cup.
Newcastle didn’t stand much chance of signing David, since we cannot offer European competition next season.
Blackburn were asking £15M for the player but we think the deal has been completed for less than that amount.
Tottenham also bought Croatia international Luka Modric, for £15.8m last month, so they are going to be a much improved team next season under Juande Ramos.
They are certainly not letting the grass grow under their feet in the transfer market.
Bentley is a very good player, but we think there are similarly skilled players at less the price, and almost as good.
Seb Larsson, of Birmingham City, is one example of someone just as good, in our opinion.
And whoever played right wing for Russia last night would also be as good, whoever he was. 😀
Seriously, there were lots of very good Russian players on display last night, who could be bought very cheaply, given their talent.
And that statement refers to lots of other players, who are not necessarily big names at the Euro 2008 Championships.
