One of our readers in Holland is saying there is news over there that Newcastle United may be interested in FC Twente 6’5″ midfielder Orlando Engelaar.
Orlando Engelar – FC Twente 6’5″ midfielder
One of our readers in Holland, Alan Devon, has said he heard yesterday that Newcastle are trying to sign Holland’s Orlando Engelaar, from FC Twente, as a replacement for Emre.
Portsmouth and Everton are also said to be linked with the player, and the price is reported to be around £7m, which seems a bit high to us.
But Alan is very positive on Orlando, and thinks he would be a great buy for Newcastle, and says the boy’s been playing great football for Twente.
At 6’5″ tall Orlando is said to be a commanding presence in midfield, and also happens to be one of the tallest players in the Eredivisie.
Orlando was previously a striker, but he now plays in midfield, and has greatly impressed with his aerial and passing abilities. He is very much an attack-minded player, so it seems he would fit into the Keegan mold.
He’s so far played 56 times for FC Twente and scored 8 goals, and represented Holland 7 times.
Engelaar turns 29 years old in late August.
That’s about all we know about the player, and he’s another one to add to the very long list of possible Newcastle arrivals this summer.
Comments welcome.

Comment #42Tom Toon I don’t see many clubs being linked with Affelay so it could be worth an approach by the R-Squad if they are reading this.

De guzman would be the easier signing he has less european games under his belt, thus cheaper to get and money talks. It would be worth having a go for him.

Probably best just to take a deep breath, relax and just think that whoever we bring in will just be a bonus to our current squad, and not get so frustrated about everything.
I’m certainly going to try now. Basta ya!

Comment #47Tom Toon van basten and cruyff would not have any thing to do with a transfer involving a feyenoord player. They are Ajax people and just because they are footballing greats that does not mean they can rule over every transfer in holland .

I’m not in to bullshit mate so whatever news I send to this site is real news or very strong rumour. As you can see by Skysports week late article, you shouldn’t right me off.
And remember it was me that revealed the van der Vaart interest 3 weeks before anyone back in England.
I speak Dutch and live in Holland and there is no way I would make shit up when it comes to the Toon!
As for being too old, he’s 28 and younger than Lampard. His age shouldn’t come in to it he is below 30 really, he plays in midfield as a playmaker not on the wing. His game doesn’t depend on running, he’s just a very inteligent passer of the ball and great at keeping posession.

Comment #52FAZ, I was at the Breda v Toon game too and you are right about him being their best player….by a mile infact. Mind he was just a lanky skinny thing then but even then he had great composure and passing skills. But now he has the build to go with that. I’m like you lot, I’m Toon daft so I wouldnt want average players signing for us. You just have to trust me when I say he is top quality and much better than Emre.

This isn’t even a story from a reader – it’s a direct lift from the appalling newcastle-mad website.
“Ed†mate – your “stories†are blatant attempts to drive up traffic to the site in order to mug daft advertisers out of their cash.
“We†think most of the time you’re talking/writing cobblers.
However, if you’re going to reporting everything ….. told tell anyone I told you…… but I saw Arshavin’s lass (with the girlfriend of that blond Russian striker with the long name) in Homebase on Team Valley yesterday looking at curtain material and plant pots. A sure sign they’ve already signed”
———————————
Actualy Chris I’m the same person who wrote the article for nufcMAD which is why it looks like it’s ripped. Read the nufcMAD article and you’ll see my name on it. It just happens that I write and submit news to over 10 different sites.
Best you get ur facts in order before you accuse me off ripping other peoples news. I’m Dev, AKA Alan Devon. The same guy who writes sometimes to for MAD.
So an apology to both the ED of this site and myself would be welcomed if you are big enough to admit you let your mouth run too soon.
And just check Skysport news today…

Comment #54Chris – if I felt like you do I’d probably stop reading this web-site – but it looks like Alan Devon sent his note to both my blog and to the Newcastle mad site – Newcastle mad printed Dave’s email in full, and it’s the same one I received and I used the facts in the story – but I never just copy over stuff but try to add to the stories and flesh them out a little with extra stuff.
The stories written all have my views mixed in – and I would expect some people to think they were wrong views or whatever – but it’s just my opinion – that’s all.
As far as advertising goes, I average about $5 ($ not pounds) per day – so that’s not why I’m doing this.
Just thought I’d enter a few facts.
