News today, not for the first time, that Newcastle United and West Ham are after Argentine and Deportivo La Coruna center-back Fabricio Coloccini.
Fabricio Coloccini – Newcastle interested for over a year
Newcastle were interested in Coloccini last year, and it was thought that Sam Allardyce would bring him to the Tyneside club.
Newcastle are after at least two center-backs this summer to replace those who have already left the club (Ramage, Rozehnal and Diatta), and Fabricio would certainly fit the bill.
The 6’0″ center-half has been outstanding in La Liga for Deportivo last season, and both West Ham manager Alan Curbishley and Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan are said to be very keen to get him to the Premier League.
Argentine star Coloccini, 26, is said to now cost around £12M, but that figure was just £4M last year at this time, and we think he could be bought for less than that figure. But it could well be what Deportivo are asking, and we guess there’s always hope for them that some club will pay that.
The player himself has admitted he is waiting to see where he will be playing next season.
“There has been a lot spoken about my future but there have been no concrete offers.”
“At the moment I am thinking about my selection for the Argentina team and then about my holiday.”
This boy is a very good player and we think he would be a good acquisition for Newcastle.
A brief career overview of Coloccini:
He started his career in the youth team of Argentinos Juniors – made his professional debut in 1998 with Boca Juniors.
In 1999, at the end of the Apertura championship, he moved to A.C. Milan. In 2001 he was loaned to San Lorenzo where he helped the team win the 2001 Clausura tournament.
In 2002 he was loaned to Deportivo Alavés and then to Atlético Madrid later in the same year, before moving to Villarreal CF in 2003 (again on loan) and after finally playing a match for Milan, he moved to Deportivo de La Coruña in 2004.
Since he moved to Deportivo de La Coruña he has played 99 games for the Spanish club and scored 6 goals.
He has represented Argentina since 2003, and played for them a total 27 times and scored one goal.
