Newcastle After Dave Kitson – Say It’s Not So

According to the Guardian today, both Celtic and Newcastle are interested in the Reading striker, Dave Kitson.

Dave Kitson – are Newcastle really interested in this player?

We have not been impressed by Kitson when we have seen him, and we’re not sure why Newcastle would be interested in a player of Dave’s caliber.

We already have a strong set of strikers in Owen, Martins, young Andy Carroll, and Mark Viduka, when he’s fit and we think Dave may just edge out young Andy from that bunch, but not for long.

So we don’t think he would add much strength to the squad we already have, if we were to be brutally honest.

Reading have been relegated and will no doubt want to unload some of their players, and we certainly hope we can get left back Nicky Shorey, who we think would be a great capture for the club.

Kitson stands 6’3″ tall, so he’s a big lad, and tough to play against, and has done quite well at Reading playing 135 games with 54 goals, since 2003.

He was signed from Cambridge United for £150K.  While at Cambridge United, from 2001 until 2003, he made 102 appearances with 40 goals.

Dave is now 28 years old, and was born in Hitchin in January, 1980.

What do you think of Dave for Newcastle?

If this is true, he’ll be a decent back up since Viduka is out for a while, and we can’t really rely on Andrew Carroll to step up at the moment.

I like Kitson. Tall, decent pace and a bit of class.

Didn’t get much service at all last year but caused problems when he finally did get the ball.

nah this cant be true if the blueprint for the club is supossed to be to recruit quality young players, where does kitson fit into that

Both Kitson and Shorey are average Premiership players who will offer little improvement to our squad for the fees they will command.
Shorey epsecially is overated and has gone backwards since his first season in the Premiership. The young Liverpool left back who was supposedly offered in exchange for Milner along with Guthrie would be a far better signing.
    Stay well clear.

    I agree natedawg!

If theres any Reading strikers then it would be Lita, Doyle or even Long.

We all know Ashley wants some youth in the side and i think he would sanction a move for any of these three ahead of Kitson!

    Remember Paul Kitson? haha

toonboy- andy carroll cnt be relied on, hes got nowhere near enough epxerience, kitson has scored goals in the prem and in a poor team with not much service, andy caroll hasnt, hes better than caroll simple as tht, dnt know why everyone seems 2 think andy caroll is so great, he was poor in the championship with preston and hasnt impressed at all wen playin 4 the toon 1st team. hes done nothing to warrant all the praise and hype some ppl on here giv him

Prefer Doyle…..but then again i would still like Gomis (dispite his performances) or Gomez he to has had a horrible tournament and may go unnoticed by the bigger clubs

HIS GOALS PER GAME RATIO IS NOT TOO BAD, CONSIDERING HE HAS NOT HAD A CHANCE IN A HALF DECENT TEAM (WHY AM I SHOUTING!)

well viduka on something like 70-80k wages

dave kitson on something like 20k wages

i can see what the idea is…

you would also get more for your money since he will not be injured all the time and has got a decent goal record

The lad would be a good signing ,he is beter than smith and we need cover with viduka out and carroll not exactly living up to the expectations .Lets be honest if he struggled with preston in the championship then can we expect him to do a job in the premership ? we all know keegan improves players and he could turn Kitson into a very good player .

when we signed paul kitson, he did ok, lacked in goals but was s stopgap until we got big les. Could be the same again. Not that big les is coming back like.

Sod kitson! we can get better than this! if we’re goin to take any striker from relegated teams it should be McFadden! he’s 10 times player kitson is & if we miss out on the likes of AA he would fit in behind front 2! He has quality & can weave a bit of magic! look at what he’s done for scotland! i would take Boyd form Rangers to as a target man! he wouldn’t cost much & would do a job when dukes is injured 70% of season! give them smith & £3m & we’ll have cueller as well!

kitson is much better than doyle long and lita.
long and lita couldnt get a first team lace at reading. kitson was their top scorer

Agree with Natesdawg and disagree with Robertsa.
Doyle is the one we should be looking at. Had a disappointing season so his price should be reasonable but he was used largely on the right wing as Reading’s squad is inadequate. Doyle is versatile, strong, good in the air and a clever player with decent control and good awareness. He’s got good fitness and years on Kitson who is mainly a lone front-man with the Royals. I reckon Doyle could develop into a Teddy Sheringham under Keegan. Sign him.

I don’t think he would be the worst buy we have ever made but I agree with the sentiment that it is lacking in ambition. There must be at least a dozen other strikers we have been linked with who would show the more positive comittment we need to step up in achievment.

I don’t think he’d be such a bad signing for us. I bet I wasn’t the only one who groaned when we signed Sibierski and we know how that turned out. He will be available to play more games than Viduka and has decent pace and strength to assist Owen and Martins.

I would like to see this player at our club, an extra £10m at the front wouldnt make much difference so I think we shoould save our money and buy Kitson or Cisse. Kitson may be outstanding for us and he would consider this his big chance and will try to show his quality.

However let us please get the midfield and defense improved 100%, that is where the goals are missing and what will take us up the table.
