The Sunday Sun are reporting today that Newcastle United are ready to make a move for Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh.
Marouane Chamakh – is he good enough for Newcastle?
The Tonneins, France born Chamakh has spent his whole career at Bordeaux, and joined them back in 2002.
He has played 182 games for the French club and scored 42 goals, not particularly a good goals/game ratio for a striker, especially in the French League.
The Sunday Sun is reporting that he is ready for a new challenge and it is understood that Newcastle have already been in talks with the player.
Marouane turned 24 last January, and at 6’1″ is a target man who is good in the air, and he has a fair amount of experience having played for Morocco 30 times with 11 goals.
That presumably is the type of player we are after, who can fill in for Viduka, when he’s out injured, although we also have young Andy Carroll coming through quite well.
The Moroccan may be a good target man, but he seems hardly of the caliber we would expect Newcastle to be signing in the summer.
We think we can do better.
Comments welcome.

Been in contact for Chamakh since february, he is areally a very goos player.
Finally linked to someone who i really want.
You say he is not the calibre of player we want? Did you look at Santa Cruz scoring record before he moved to blackburn?
We can get Chamakh for about 4mil.

Comment #5He is not good enough for us, he wouldnt start over Viduka for me. We need to get someone like Crouch, Gudjohnsen, Gomez, Gomis, or more hopefully Pavlyuchenko. Are you currently writing up a report on Servet Cetin, Suazo, and Acquafresca too. The Sun Sports editor is a geordie you do know that right? Which means he is would over report us, which means most of this is probably bull

Comment #13no doesnt score enough goals..
also we dont want servet cetin either ive done some research and came up with this..
At the start of his Galatasaray career, he was heavily criticized for his susceptibility for making critical mistakes on the pitch. With his towering physique and strength he is capable of winning almost every header but his weakness on one-on-ones, especially against above average fast players, was apparent
another doomsong and bramble allover again..

Comment #15Santa Cruz: For Bayern: 155 games 31 goals.
Chamakh: For Bordeaux: 180 games 42 goals.
Not much different, very similar players, similar price and both suited ot the prem.

Comment #16Tom Toon – i stand corrected if you have seen him – I’ve never seen him actually play and that comment about his caliber was based on the goals he scored – that’s all.

Comment #17Based on goals to games then Roque Santa Cruz is as good as Chamakh.
Chamakh’s game isnt based on goals, hes a target man giving assists.

Comment #20I agree with Tom Toon. Chamakh is a very good player. Very good in the air, good technically and good physically. Really I’d much rather we got him for the £4m that Tom is quoting than Crouch for £10m. Also I feel that there is a good chance that Chamakh will prove to be a very good player in the Premier League whereas Crouch is and will always be merely quite good.

Comment #22Tom_Toon we had a discussion about this player a couple of nights ago, I agree with you and have seen alot of him,
He has a deadly finish, one of if not the best in the league when he is on form, is tallish and a good target man, my only concern is i am not sure how he will adapt to the premier leagues physical side, though he has got quality and at 4million as Tom_Toon quoted its a steal.

Comment #29ive seen a lot of french football, and tbh i cant say ive seen him stand out as someone i would want at nufc, his goal scoring record is on a par with cruzs but in a poorer league which doesnt have a reputation for cf coming to the pl and doing well.
hes better than smith and shola becuase hes fit and strong, just a bit depressed this might be the best we can do.
i dont think we can be gambling on positions we need quality, fine if hes a back up cf but really do need some class upfront to partner owen or martins.
him or derdiyok fine for back up, but i really hope there will be another quality cf signing. PAVYLUCHENKO.
at least were not going to spunk away 15m quid on gomis which it sounds like bolton are, unless its elmander there getting. either way glad were not wasting money.

Comment #35haha…people consistently overrate players in here
how can people describle him as a great player while his goal scoring rate is so poor?
and it is not fair to compare him with Santa Cruz, he didnt score enough goals in Bayern because of injuries and faced competitions with some top strikers, Makaay etc…while Chamakh isnt an injury prone, doesnt face competition against some top strikers, he cant even win his place against Bellion (even tho he has been good last season at Bordeaux)
also, Santa Cruz always shows that he is a top quality striker in international level and always score goals in World Cup and Copa
anyway Chamakh is a good skillful target man…but have doubts of his finishing and his physical side…but 4M, worths a gamble as long as people dont expect too much too soon
