Newcastle Still Interested In Pablo Aimar

The Sunday Sun is linking us again with Argentine play-maker Pablo Aimar.

Pablo Aimar – would be great buy for Magpies

This is not the first time we’ve been linked with this player, who we think would do great at Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old midfielder is looking to leave Real Zaragoza, following their relegation from La Liga last season.

And of course Real Zaragoza want to unload Pablo Aimar, to cut costs at the club, and Newcastle have been interested in him, at least since May, probably when they realized Zaragoza would be relegated.

Gustavo Muscardi, who is Pablo’s agent, claims Newcastle have already enquired about his client, but have made no formal bid yet.

Aimar holds a Spanish passport, and would therefore encounter no work permit problems, if he moved to Newcastle.

Muscardi has admitted that England holds a particular attraction for his player as he said:

“Newcastle have asked about Aimar’s situation — that is certain,”

“There has still not been any formal offer for us and Zaragoza to study, but the Premier League would be perfect for him.”

“And I want to speak with Newcastle to take things forward.”

It is thought the initial fee mentioned of £6.5M is rather high, and that a solid bid of just £4M from Newcastle United, could secure the deal.

That would be an excellent deal for Newcastle, considering that in 2006 Aimar joined Real Zaragoza for 12M Euros, which is about £9.48M with today’s rate of 0.79 euros to £.

We hope Newcastle will move quickly this week, to tie up this player, who we’re certain can be an excellent acquisition for the club, and he would play well for  Kevin Keegan.

Here is Pablo’s career playing record so far:

Years Club App Goals

1995–2001 River Plate 83 21
2001–2006 Valencia CF 162 27
2006– Real Zaragoza 53 5

1999– Argentina 51 8

Comments very welcome.

If he is anything like the player he was at valencia, he would be a brilliant signing. Maradona once described him as the best player in the world. Got to be worth a go…

If we fail to sign arshavin, which is highly likely, I think he will be a good alternative.

In all honesty, if we buy the players we’ve been linked with just today, this would be our squad:

    GK: Given

    RB: Beye
    LB: Enrique
    CB: Faye
    CB: Colloccini

    LM: McGeady
    RM: Lennon
    CAM: Aimar
    CDM: Englelaar (not likely though!)

    ST: Owen
    ST: Martins

Wouldn’t mind to have him in the team. Might have lost his old form, but can still pass better than any of our current players. Plus who knows if he could rediscover his old self?

just thought as well that if we get Coloccini or Aimar then the other would probably be more motivated as the are both Argentinian

Is this another player to be linked to us but the club not following it up and so making way for someone else to step in and take him, just like what will happen to, Arshavin, Turan, Gomis and what did happen to Modric.
I am begining to hate Dennis Wise more and more. What is he actually doing for his £1m+ salary. He is there to finalise deals for players but is failing big time. Give the job to the one man who can sell our great club, KK. At the same time MA will be getting his way as well by cutting the wage bill by another £1m+.
Come on NUFC get your finger out.

Is it possible that Wise is just conducting enquiries with agents? I mean, various agents frequently seem to come forward and say we’re interested… It wouldn’t take much for an agent to gain this impression, as a simple phone call to the agent to ask about a players availability would be sufficient.

Would love to see us tie this deal up. So desperate for a signing, I’m almost at the point where I’d be happy to see my Nanna sign a deal and pull on the kit… It is clear however, that we ourselves are using Euro as a scouting mission.

PS. I’d like to endorse the comments of a blogger who said earlier this week, that the calibre of players we are reportedly bidding for(Modric, Turan, Arshavin, Gomis etc.) is very impressive. Whoever we do sign, will no doubt be quality. It might not be the ones we do want, but no doubt they’ll have talent…

geordie nick engelaar is a cm, who can play defensive and attacking, however he is better defensive as he hasn’t got the greatest technical ability. he is a very english style midfielder i think

engelaar is naturally attacking, he used to be a stiker and then dropped back into midfield, he has been playing deeper for holland because of the fact they hav van der vaart and sneijder in aswell, he can do a job in dm but he is more attack minded

    Sign him up now KK!
Even if it is just to start the ball rolling with a big name, besides he is only 28 and we need a playmaker to slide the ball through to Oba and MO. Also im guessing he can take a better free kick than Geremi.
He is not too weak for the prem he has played top internationals. Only if he is a mercinary. But for that money worth the risk for the name alone.

    typical poor nufc signing.

aimar had potential to be great, now looking for last big pay day. imo.

arshavin – current hottest talent at his peak age in his position.

???? – as yet unknown player could be the next arshavin or aimar would cost peanuts.

which one will nufc sign ???

lol, why are people adding that dutch guy to their dream teams? Dont be fooled because of his height. I watched him closely yesterday and his passing was way off. He went far too long, too often.

Geremi>>>>>>>Engelaar, and I want Geremi gone this summer.

crouch-swap for milner plus a bit of cash maybe
also possibly bring in lennon as a replacemnt for milner especially if duff goes aswell

We should get him in! i think Arshavin is well gone now unless we had deal done & didn’t announce it in case we distracted him during the euros! but think i’m clutchin at straws there like! aimar is quality & only 28! KK could get him playin the way he did @ valencia of thati’m sure & he could provide loads of goals for Oba Owen & the duke!

Aimar was realy good… but for that cind of money, I think it would be worth a try… Better than Barton, Geremi, that´s for sure…

Don´t understand what everyone is about with Engelaar? He has done it ok for holland, of curse, but we are talking about a 28 year old midfelder that is on it´s way to one decent club from a less decent club… Can easly say 20 midfelders that is better for almost the same money…

Just because some people play good in 2-3 games doesn´t realy make them dreamtransfers?
Doesn´t say he is bad, but not my cup of tea….

I know Aimar was a real top,top player a few years ago, but he has fallen a bit since.

He also seems to be a 3-4 choice playmaker, with VDV and Asharvin now out of our reach. Still hopeful of Arda!

I hope if we do purchase him, he can rediscover his undoubted ability, as a playmaker is something we really need at the club. My favourite area at the club was when we had Beardo working his magic behind the strikers.
