News is coming through from several sources that Shola Ameobi is keen to join West Brom, so that he can play under Tony Mowbray.
Shola Ameobi – appears to favor West Brom
Shola Ameobi appears ready to join West Brom, after sources close to the player said the player would be very happy to play under WBA manager, Tony Mowbray.
WBA are in negotiations with Newcastle on the transfer amount, and we understand that is around £3M, for the former England Under-21 player, whose only club has been Newcastle United.
A source close to Ameobi said:
“Shola is 26 now so this is a big move for him and he knows a manager like Tony Mowbray will help to develop him as a player.”
“He’s over his injury problems now and he just wants to get his head down and play.”
“He is keen to get his future sorted so ideally he’d like to get things done and dusted in the next week or so.”
“A few clubs have shown an interest but he wants to go to West Brom.”
We think that both Newcastle and the player will want to move things along quickly, and we don’t expect the deal to take too long, once a fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
Shola should be able to do a job for WBA, as he looks to fully rehabilitate his career after his hip operation last year.
He’s now fully fit and we would expect he’ll be raring to go.
Comments welcome.

Comment #44On Marouane Chamakh wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marouane_Chamakh it says ‘After bumping his head and losing his memory, then being found by Kevin Keegan wandering a beach in North East England, Chamakh decided to sign for Newcastle. Slim’

Comment #45What a load of dilettante dandy fans. Shola might not have set the world on fire but he cared, played through injury, scored some crucial goals and IS a geordie. I for one wish him the best luck in the world and hope he is appreciated wherever he ends up.
You lot are an embarrassment. Fickle fools. Your ‘ideal’ toon team is composed of whoever we’ve been linked to this week and you have the patience of a stick of dynamite.

Comment #49I cant see the problem in expressing a view on Shola as a footballer. He was never my favourite, however i always wanted him to be successful at the club, because he was one of ours!
I do think it is time for Shola to move on and wish him all the best at WBA and hope hes a big hit.
What i cant understand and i feel there are others who share my point of view is WHY? Even if you dont particular like his football get personal with your comments. Such remarks as ‘Tart’ and ‘Clown’.
This is a local lad who tried to make it at the club he loves, never asked for a transfer when constantly placed on the bench, scored goals and played through injuries for OUR club.
You dont have to like our players, but can we not support them?
There should be a new blog called ‘We hate NUFC’ as i know it will get many of the bloggers from this site, i could name bloggers but then it would take so long and everyone knows who they are anyway.

Comment #50Dan Toon, yeah that is a good and realistic line-up. Arshavin would be good, so would van der Vaart, but who’re we kidding? If we do sign them, it’ll be a year or two ’til one of the ‘big four’ pirate them.
As for Shola, by all means, go right ahead.

Comment #51For all you slagging him off- The lad scored at the Nou Camp. How many Premier League footballers can say that they scored on the home turf of arguably the worlds best pure footballing side, in the Champions League of all occasions?
More to the point, if you had actually seen him in his early days you would know just how talented a footballer he was, and how badly those injuries really affected him
All the best wor Shola.

Comment #52Shola did his best for NUFC & contributed at times, was a Geordie at heart surely, but his time was up years ago. We had given him time to sort it out & be a great player but he failed. We knew this as well as him himself must admit it. Therefore cheers for all his services (goals, spirit etc) to him & good luck to him (not when playing against us). Time to move on & seems likeWBA will welcome you Shola as they know you got the ‘potential’.

A few years i thought he was very promising, but i think hes no better than Taylor. We really need someone with experience to bring Taylor on.

Comment #58I hate it when it seems we are now targeting Spurs rejects. Spurs has found themselves in the mid table with their current players and we are signing them and dreaming that we can do different with them. It just won’t happen.

Not Ameobi, but you geordie goons. You think you have a god given right to be successful, yet you jump on every players back if he is not instantly successful.
Best loyal fans in the premier – don’t make me laugh. You lot are a joke and will never win ‘owt. You may have big support – yeah like Jimmy 5 Bellies, you probably are big. Just like your fat controller Mike Ashley.
Newcastle, it’s team, it’s fans and the place itself – the joke of the Premiership.

Comment #62Tend to agree that we are the most fickle fans in U.K – we’re forever whinging. We no sooner stop slagging FFS for putting the club in financial jeapordy abd then start slagging Ashley for not spending like there’s no tomorrow.
Name one reason why any decent player would come to Toon when they can go elsewhere – we’re only big in the North East (please don’t say the fans)

Comment #63Comments from Newcastle fans towards anything Newcastle that appear to be derogatory is just giving other fans fuel to have a pop at us.
Be critical by all means, bloody hell i’ve been in the past towards the board, managers and players. But i try to be balanced and constructive. Instead of saying “SHOLA f$%& off” and the like, put a bit thought into it.
When you do it just gives the idiots from the south in particuar the opportunity to slag us off.

I would have thought that my moniker would have given that away, even tho’ we aren’t as famous as the ‘renowned and knowledgable’ geordies. (LOL).
As for my sexual pre-dilections, please don’t pass opinion on something you know very little about. The practise that you mentioned may probably be commonplace in your household, but then again you probably not spoilt for choice when it comes to sexual partners. Your mother is probably the only female who would come near you.

Comment #66Reading the comments above just proves what the rest of the country knows. You are self deluded in thinking you are the best fans in the country. You really do have ideas above your station. When you get relegated next season you will be crying out for players like Shola.
If i was Ed i would make you all have to pay a 2 quid subscription to join this blog, then you wouldnt get the silly kids on here spouting of there rubbish. Hell, it might even get rid of Tom(i get my knowledge from youtube)Toon.
You all need to realise that nobody outside newcastle rates your club and the place is only any good for stag and hen do”s.

Comment #67We gave rsbaggy the ammunition to fire at us with. I think we as a whole group of fans, need to calm down a bit and just accept that we are in this position as a club, and whoever comes through the door this transfer window (or doesn’t) we should support them in every way we can.

Comment #70Fella’s chill out with the squabbling amongst yourself’s, to be honest it all gets quite annoying, lets keep it football related! I think we need to have some patience with the transfer negotiations, despite what it looks like on the surface, I’m sure the club has
1) Identified who they would like to bring in
2) Who would actually be a realistic target
3) And subsequently made contact with there clubs, agents and players
These things take time and a lot of players we are and have been looking at will no doubt have offers from clubs across the world. We do have money to spend (despite what some ppl think) but we want to spend it in the right areas – and I for one commend this approach. Once the euros and WC qualifiers finish, our transfers will soon gather pace.
Ye we missed out on Modric, which I was very disappointed about as he is a star in the making, we’ve dragged our feet over Arshavin and may have left it too late for that, I was fuming that we didn’t sign Lassana Diarra from arsenal but that was effected by big sams departure. But on the flip side there are a lot of top quality players out there and everyone has a price – look at ronaldo! So keep the faith boys, I’m sure we’ll all be smiling come the start of august.
Any one thought about Tiago Mendes (ex Chelsea – currently at Juve)? Lacks a bit of pace but he’s a lovely passer of the ball and helps dictate the pace of the game quite well (similar to Carrick)

Nail on the head son, PREMIERSHIP where we will belong and you wont be after next season, You arrogant wanker and one thing how on earth you can call Newcastle a joke when your from the biggest shithole in the UK i dont know.
Good luck Shola you arent anywhere near as bad as said on here and you put your career on the line to play with an injury and most fans respect that.
Unlucky with a move down there though, Just get a chauffeur to drive you about down there and keep a blindfold on so you dont have to invisage the deprevation and decay of the black country.

AZ – aka TTT – Typical Thick Twat.
When you can’t respond to a football discussion with logical, thought out prose, you resort to name calling and obscenities. Go take your UB40 or whatever they call it, and sign on. Don’t want to miss out on your giro. After all mummy and sis are not on the pill anymore and the price of rubber is shooting up.
Apologies to other decent posters on here (many geordies included), but it seems that the language of the gutter is all that AZhole understands.
