Everton boss David Moyes is reportedly going to make a move for Tottenham striker, Darren Bent, once he has sold current striker Andy Johnson.
Darren Bent – available for £8M?
It seems like Darren Bent could be bought for around £8M, which is less than half the ridiculous £16.5M Spurs paid for him last summer, from Charlton Athletic.
Bent, 24, was once a Newcastle target while at Ipswich Town, and we’ve been linked with him already this summer, so if Newcastle are really interested in Bent, we will need to move quickly.
We think Bent could be a good buy at £8M, and he has already shown that when he gets a game, he can score goals.
When at Charlton Athletic, from 2005-2007, he played 68 games for the London side and scored 31 goals.
And the England striker started only 11 games in the Premier League last season but still managed to bag 6 goals.
Sunderland are also said to be interested in the talented striker.
We would expect Newcastle to sign just one out-and-out striker to complement our current strikers Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Oba Martins and 19 year old England Under-19 striker Andy Carroll.
We haven’t put Alan Smith in there, because we think he’ll move during the summer, if he wants a game next season.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Bent is a good signing at £8 million.
Played up front on his own at Charlton and scored a bag full of goals. With Owen and Martins either side we would be quite formidable.
As for the other lad…..who?
However i love surprises!

Comment #5I remember thinking when newcastle were playing spuds, that I was not worried when bent was playing as oppose to berbatov and keane. read into that what you wish.

Comment #10Like i mentioned on a previous post ed, do you think he will leave? I mean who’s going to come in and meet the players transfer fee and his huge wage demands?
I think we’ll be stuck with him for a while yet, even if we offer him a move on the cheap.

Comment #11Wonder how long it will be until we get linked with Johnson if Moyes is wanting rid?
Both strikers are over rated in my opinion and have had a few good seasons with memorable bad spells. Both would want first team every game and with Martins and Owen ahead of them it would be unlikely – I cannot see him reverting back to 4-3-3 this coming season.

Comment #12Bent, Lennon… We should be recruiting the same way Spurs are and aiming for the same goal not going after all their rejects… Fair enough they have the benefit of London and Europe, but c’mon if we are aiming for European football this time next year then we need to do better than cockney cast offs.

Comment #14Good player. Bit tired of seeing teams like penny-pinching everton showing more ambition than us.
I think some of you are clutching at straws if you think July 1st will launch new signings.
News just in!

Comment #15Bent is under-rated in myopinion. His goal scoring record is phenomenal, considering it was 1) at Charlton and 2) hardly got a game at Spurs but still scored goals. Would be a great buy for 8 million and he has pace as well which is something we don’t have, especially in midfield.
More pace in the team please. Oh the days of Robert, Dyer and Bellamy terrorising defences with their pace.

Comment #16Would much rather spend 8 mil on Crouch or a decent midfield player, i just dont like Bent that much! very overated, typically overpriced English striker!

Comment #18Bent has got a very good scoring record, very good this season considering the small number of games he has played.
i would prefer Cisse or Kitson though.

Comment #22I am at at a wonderful club who will be challenging for the title next season. I know i wont start to many games as i am behind 2 brilliant strikers in the pecking order. I also have european football t look forward to aswell as defending the league cup. I have a brilliant manager who can help bring on my game along with world class team mates.
As far as i am aware newcastle dont have anything to be optomistic about. The manager is tactically naive(which was his reason for leaving england) and the players average to mediocre. I dont fancy a relegation battle as i suffered those with charlton. At my age i want to play in the big games and not just hoping for a good cup run to the quaterfinals of a cup.
I wish you all well but your club and city arent for me.

Comment #23This is what happens when you put up articles related to Spuds. Their fans are probably the most smug, self-satisfied, (self-)deluded around.

Comment #25To Ben – Even though Tottenham are deluded, the worst are…Man City fans…they think with abit of money they are going straight into the top 4…
…Newcastle fans are ok though :), part of the reason im going to Uni there lol 🙂
Anyway, newcastle dont really need a striker, its the defence thats the problem, Beye and Taylor are great players, but the others arent good enough, i also htink you need a defensive mid. Newcastle shouldnt be looking to buy a striker unless Owen gets sold (hopefully to Everton) or Martins gets sold.

Comment #26I would get crouch ahead of any strikers. Hes got a few good years ahead of him, he is a proven EPL player, he controls the ball really well, heads the ball well, and he has a decent shot as well. What more can we ask for?
We are not a CL team so dont start pulling world class player here.

Comment #27Crouchy would be a better signing than Bent, he compliments Owen well. Good replacement for Viduka. Then we can concentrate on a creative attacking mid and a decent centre half.

Comment #28My god Darren, it’s a good thing you got a job as a bench-warmer mate; your education must have been shockingly poor to construct that mindless drivel. Sad thing is, I sense immense effort on your part, yet there is so little to show for it.
Oh well some stories just keep re-telling themselves, ey?
All the best.

Comment #30Crouchy with owen would be a nightmare, there would be more pace in a Zombie film. Both hanging around waiting for a pass or a rebound off the bar or post-static football.
Crouchy as a sub for owen would be good, Crouch in if owen decided to leave would be good but not Crouch with owen.
Cisse or kitson would be my choice.

Comment #34i feel sorry for the spuds fan who took the pain of writing a msg for darren,
man you ppl have don nothing except spoil young talents, (ya somewhere down the line we are also responsible for that) but atleast we stick to the player, give him ample opp0rtunity, but you dont like to stick to a player, media all us the desperate one, but i will tell u one thing u just get
lucky coz some of ur teams in the city are way better than you are and they tend to follow them.
as for bent i would take him for 8mill, and put in place of viduka and please dont sell owen, i know he has been messing around but we need a leader in the strike dept. as we need in both mid-field and defense….

Comment #36Dear Darren Bent. If it was you who wrote your blog conntribution I would like to say that I would not soil NUFC with you presence. To say that players such as Owen and Martins etc are mediocre is an appalling slur. It also shows what an over-rated opinion you have of yourself. You should be honoured that it has even been suggested that NUFC are interested in you. We are not. And the slur against the city of Newcastle itself is foul ignorance. I would point out that White Hart Lane is situated in Northumberland Park Ward – the poorest and most backward part of the borough of Tottenham. We do not want your type in Toon sonny.
