Keegan Expecting Progress with Contracts

Kevin will no doubt be in meetings today, being brought up to speed on what the situation is with our transfers and also the contracts of 22 year-old Steven Taylor and captain Michael Owen.

Kevin Keegan – status meetings today

We find it interesting that Michael Owen said he had started negotiations on a new contract last week, and we reported earlier today that Mike Ashley will personally step in to sort out Steven Taylor’s contract.

We find the timing interesting, because Kevin has been asking for months for the club to get these two signed up, and they knew he was returning from holiday last Friday. 😀

At least they can now tell Kevin they have made some progress, but it seems the club are dragging their feet on these contracts, maybe because they need to clear our more fringe players first.

As we mentioned earlier today, we would half expect Smith, Duff and Barton to be on their way, before the end of the transfer window.

We think Kevin will want to keep Joey, and maybe a face to face meeting between the two could get some things sorted out, because Joey’s attitude, while in jail, suggest he doesn’t understand the gravity of the situation he has put himself in.

But we think the only thing Kevin will be thinking about is how does he rehabilitate Joey, both on and off the field, because Kevin’s heart is made of pure gold.

Today should be an interesting day at the club.

Comments welcome.

Rehabilitate Joey – surely you mean get rid of!

This looks like its going to be a long hard season where we are struggling to get any quality signed up. Hopefully we won’t waste money on signing has beens and yet to be’s by signing them up to 3 year contracts on 50k a week

Squad is painfully thin with little cover, suppose we’re going to have to blood the youngsters at the rate we’re going

you never know though we might have Turan and Arshavin in the bag for all we know and are just waiting for 1st July to register them – surely we must have someone other than that moroccan bloke I can’t remember

I dont think we were ever going to get arshavin, we should pursue other areas now such as aimar, lennon.

    lol yes this is true.

Aimar’s agent is apparently mentioning our name to anyone who’s interested at the moment.

‘Cause we are not big enough to scare off the possible suiters, and not too small to cool their interests.

ha ha leo are you suggesting that we, in some way, have a reputation for being used as a pawn in big boy negotiations?

Steve, i dont think we are pajnfully thin at all for players. I think we need to dump a couple more, smith and alas barton have to go. smith cos he is shit and barton cos he is a nutter. All we need a three top signings and then bring in the youth…. otherwise, whats the point in having the young ens at all?? i said it on another blog today, we cant get arshavin and turan, so lets get one. We know that turan wants to come to us and the arshavin wants spain – so thats that one sorted. Turan goes left and zogs goes middle left, lennon (ok, not everyones cup of tea) has said he wants to come to us – i say buy him and stick him on the right. Get shot of duff and use milner as cover for left right. Get crouch in – he is good, i know he looks stupid and thick as pig shit but the simple fact is… he is a good footy player – get rid of viduka. Sign spear cos he will be worth 20 million in two years time. We only need a holding midfielder and we have geremi and butt who can both stil ldo a job there. i am one of ashleys biggest detractors – i think everyone knows that. I am even holding off getting me new season ticket until i see which way we go in this window. He can get good players in that want to comwe to us though, players have openly said – we want to go to newcastle. That can not be underestimated lads, they aint cueing up like they used to. Christ, Aimar who is still 28 and in his physical prime has said he wants to come to us. He was once the worlds best. The magix is still there, if Keegan can get him ticking over like fergie did with cantona we will have a true world class matchwinner. IF ashley backs us, we can do well, i even think we would be able to get these guys in and have a smaller wage bill if we can dump smith, barton, viduka etc. At the risk of getting some stick, i would say we could cope without given now too if it came to the crunch. harper and the young guns would be plenty.

I’d love to see duff, smith and barton out aswell (especially the last 2) ed, but i’m not sure any other clubs going to come in and buy them off us, not due to their transfer fees, but the stupidly huge wages we have then on.

Is there anyone willing to match their wage demands?

Keep Duff and Smith. Sack Barton – the lad is a liability and a top club like us should not want to be associated with him at all. While we’re on – show Owen the door. If his wages is impacting upon the possible depth of our squad then we should get rid – it is more important in the Premiership to have strength in depth, than to keep hold of an old mate of Kev’s who, to be truthful, has never shown World-Class striker potential since his Liverpool days.
