Kevin Back Today – Will He Be Happy With Progress?

Kevin Keegan will return to the office today, but will likely be unhappy with the events that have transpired since he went away on holiday.

Kevin Keegan – first day back at the office today

Having already been a little unhappy that Newcastle were unable to land target Croatia Luka Modric, it now looks like long term targets Andrei Arshavin and Arda Turan are out of reach.

Both players have been tracked by Newcastle, and reports suggest Newcastle contacted their clubs before Euro 2008 even started.

But both have looked outstanding in Euro 2008, especially Arshavin, who has probably looked the most exciting player at the tournament.

That’s good news and bad news. The good news in that our recruitment staff are spotting great players, but the bad news is that because we haven’t secured them before now, the price will have gone up significantly, and other bigger clubs will be in for them.

Keegan is keen to get some creativity back to his midfield and Arshavin and Turan would have been perfect for him, but we suspect he may not be very pleased that Newcastle have secured neither player.

Of course we have no idea what’s happening behind the scenes, and we’re probably being unfair to the club, since we don’t know the total situation, and transfers these days are never easy to accomplish and get finalized.

And that’s especially true before Euro 2008, when both of their clubs wanted to wait until after the tournament, hoping their players would be stars, which both have been.

So bear in mind we are commenting only on what looks to be happening on the surface of things.

But we’ll likely be hearing some comments from Kevin soon, maybe via the local Evening Chronicle later today.

And even though he’ll not be able to say too much about our targets, we should be able to ascertain if he’s happy enough with what’s going on behind the scenes on the transfer front, by his general comments.

We hope everything is just fine, as far as he is concerned, and we expect incoming transfers to begin this week.

The boys are back in pre-season training in two weeks time.

Comments welcome.

Ed – We may well have agreements in place made prior to Euro 08.

There has been speculation that we’ll complete on 1 or 2 players for July 1st. Possibly Chamakh is one of them. According to Tom_Toon he’ll be a great signing, remains to be seen. But he does look a handful!

if we had signings in the bag we wud know about them by now, i mean what possible logical explanation cud we hav for not announcing that we’ve signed players, instead wed rather keep quiet about it and let the fans start turning on ashley and wise, dont be silly, if wed signed anyone it wud be officially announced

    The harsh truth is that no top players want to come because;

    1. We aren’t in the champs league or even uefa
    2. We aren’t situated in London.

I have no doubt that we’ve made offers etc, but they don’t want to come to Newcastle.

maybe its going to be left till a bit later, well i mean as late as possible so that mike ashley doesnt pay the wages during the summer, he is tight and that would be a risky and clever move.

    im probably just being stupid.

Aimar is a player on the downward spiral, a player in decline. What we needed to do was sort these transfer targets (Arshavin and Turan) finalised before the bloody Euro Cup!!! Now we have lost one of the best players I have seen in a long time in Arshavin. What a chance!! What a mistake by Newcastle and one that along with Modric has broken my hopes and heart.

Err, if we have already signed players, it may not be in the public domain ‘cos those players didn’t want their euro 08 screwed with by stupid reporters askin’ dumb questions…That would make sense, wouldn’t it?..
…Is there a better ‘possible’ reason than that?..

Also, we have a new set-up, so we don’t really know how they do things yet…If we’re gonna base our assumptions on how ffs did things, well i wouldn’t, surely, he was the epitome of how not to deal with PR!?!..

I am finding the clubs new approach to media refreshing.

FFS loved the camera a bit too much (God knows why?)

However a news bite from a ‘named source’ just to keep the natives happy from week to week would be pleasing too. I’m not talkig about declaring ‘we are going to sign Rooney’ rubbish, but just let us know things are moving along nicely.

could be so, but i’m just tryin’ to balance all the negativity bro’…Basically tho’, we don’t actually know, so when people come sayin’ this & that, quotin’ cack rags like it’s defo true, i feel obligated to write somethin’…

Look, either we weren’t in for these blokes at all and its just papershite linking us with everybody and his dog, or we have got a decent scouting network in place. The transfer window wasn’t open when KK went on his break. And the clubs would be daft to sell knowing they had boys on display in the Euros. At least, the 2 we were linked with have done really well. It would be better if they played crap and then we signed them?

I wouldn’t expect any controversial comments from KK anymore. I suspect he was told in no uncertain terms to keep his mouth shut in that meeting.
I also doubt if there are any done deals, I reckon that MA is waiting to see who is left at the end of the transfer window and then will try to get them on the cheap.

Hopefully things will pick up now KK is back. Apparently Keegan wasn’t happy with Wise as he gave him a list of three players to buy and the only one we’re even close to signing is Spear.

    You call signing nobody progress?
Missing out on Modric and Arshavin progress?
Wise must be asleep. Hopefully the King will now sort things out.

Barton will get another 6mths or year in the next week or so and will be on his way. Duff and Smith must go because they are useless and on scandalous wages. Stroller is going. WE NEED to sign somebody. We’ll barely be able to scrape together 11 bodies to put out. This is getting serious.

Wow, its hard not to search for who’s to blame.

It is too quite. KK is the King but maybe we need God on our side now too, by the way things are going.

ONE thing is for sure, Newcastle fans have huge amounts of hope, I am here every day and people still have hope, so at least thats good.
