Newcastle Update on Marouane Chamakh

We are still being linked with Bordeaux’s 24 year-old striker, Marouane Chamakh.

Marouane Chamakh – 42 goals in 182 games for Bordeaux

We expect Newcastle to sign just one striker this summer, and we may already have signed that player.

As we reported yesterday, there were reports that Moroccan striker, Marouane Chamakh, may have already signed for the club.

We had reported yesterday that on his wikipedia site there was information that he had just signed a 3 year deal with the Tyneside club, and the club will unveil him on July 1st.

It was also reported yesterday in the Le Parisian newspaper in Paris, and the Sud Ouest paper in Bordeaux, that the deal was done.

That information on Wikipedia has now been removed, but its saying now he is an official Newcastle player, and that he’s currently undergoing a medical at Newcastle.

We’re not sure what to make of this, and of course it is probably a ruse – but you never know. 😀

It’s also being reported the Moroccan will wear number 29 at Newcastle, his number at Bordeaux.

The more we find out about this player, the more we think he could be a really savvy signing for the club.

He’s 24 years old, 6’1″ tall, and has scored 42 goals for Bordeaux in 182 games for the French club since 2002.

He has already attained cult status in his homeland of Morocco.

Comments welcome.

he is number 29 for bordueux also.

my instincts point to a scam.

his goal ratio is poor and having watched a video of him on youtube which consists of him missing sitters i think this is surely someone messing around with wikipedia,

If you read the page about him on wikipedia, there’s a bit about him supposedly moving to Newcastle at the bottom. The way it’s written is very dodgy, and doesn’t convince me in any way at all. At least if it had been written in decent English I might actually be fooled…

he is said to be signed up, and also by the same person currently going over a medical….

you do the medical and once that happens you sign them…

that obviously isnt a very good source

Anyone can edit wikipedia at any time lads don’t believe anything you read on there, chances are its someone winding us up.

He doesn’t look great to be honest, but you never can tell from youtube vids. There was a few strikers we saw in the euros who we should be looking in to, pavlyuchenko for one. What about Mario Gomez? We were reported to be interested in him, he had a stinker of a tournament, but that was only a few games and he is still a class player. Surely interest from bigger teams will have cooled off now?

You guys really need to read these things properly, it states ‘Transfer speculation suggesting Marouane has signed for Newcastle united of the English premier league seems premature as there has been no official word from Bordeaux or Newcastle’

No where does it say he’s already signed for us or had a medical, so get your glasses on guys before reporting more crap, as if we don’t read enough.. 🙁

This guys agent really knows how to get a transfer in motion I think!

Obviously there must be some truth in the story however I believe the French press to be similar to English when reporting transfer speculation and have probably jumped the gun. Sky Sports are generally first to get onto a story and very rarely miss anything.

If it is true, he seems average however his scoring record is nothing outstanding and we currently have 3 strikers at the club who have a better record.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are all said to be interested in the 17 million pound rated striker. Chamakh has caught the eye of many top clubs after scoring 9 in 3 at euro 2008.

Thats quoted from wikipedia, i didnt know Morocco played in Euro 2008, am i missing sth here?

I am back after my sabbaticle in the italian riviera!!Where I grafted my nads off for 6 weeks in the picturesque town of Santa Margherita. I worked so very hard, and the hotel room overlooking the med was a nightmare in the 26 degree heat, and the fact that I had about 50 pappa razzi f***in on in my hotel was hell, seemingly they were there as some shrek looking character, with a scouse accent, was getting married to a gold digging bord with a dodgy scouse accent ………….. anyway i digress!!My ear has been close to the ground regarding potential mentionings (nevermind signings) of NUFC linked with evry player and his roy keane sex toy!

I did hear that Msr Chamakh is touting himself about as a target for NUFC….however, on speaking to a coupl of french guys out there, they are saying that he is Merde?????
No pace, and he is just a tall striker who only heads the ball, and very poorly at that!! Misse more than he scores…..takes one in ten chances maybe even 20(they spoke better English than me). They say Gomis is al right but nothing spectacular and all they raved about was Benzema gonna be the best player in the world one day…….

The other things i heard were Arshevan to milan, Kaka to Real if they dont get Ronaldo. Unrelated I know but I just listened with envy…….

Anyway, back now and looking forward to some good banter on here and a nice return to the sunny climate of Gatesheed!!

    @ Mozza

I read that Gomis decided to stay at st.etienne, but as far as i’m aware Gomez has not worked anything out with stuttgart yet. Probably because Germany are still in the euros, we should try talking to stuttgart before he gets back, at least enquire and get the ball rolling.

Kaler – Mario Gomez is apparently a target of Bayern Munich, whom I think he would chose over us. However, Podolski has said that he would be willing to return to his old club of Cologne because in his words “Playing is more important than titles” I think we should have a bid for him instead 🙂

Wikipedia said Modric was a full member of our squad and that he was number 8!? Around the time just before he signed for spur stealers!

i reck0n Wiki is an unreliable source… Lets just go by the official, when the official club statements are announced on there, thats when it’s for real!

I still get excited about all the speculation but its startin to do my head in now.

‘ Keegan has promised to make Chamakh feel at home so his sign on fee is a pair of Jesus sandals and, instead of the usual red carpet treatment, he will be walking through a sand pit when entering St. James’ Park’

brilliant, but not to be taken seriously!!!
