We are still being linked with Bordeaux’s 24 year-old striker, Marouane Chamakh.
Marouane Chamakh – 42 goals in 182 games for Bordeaux
We expect Newcastle to sign just one striker this summer, and we may already have signed that player.
As we reported yesterday, there were reports that Moroccan striker, Marouane Chamakh, may have already signed for the club.
We had reported yesterday that on his wikipedia site there was information that he had just signed a 3 year deal with the Tyneside club, and the club will unveil him on July 1st.
It was also reported yesterday in the Le Parisian newspaper in Paris, and the Sud Ouest paper in Bordeaux, that the deal was done.
That information on Wikipedia has now been removed, but its saying now he is an official Newcastle player, and that he’s currently undergoing a medical at Newcastle.
We’re not sure what to make of this, and of course it is probably a ruse – but you never know. 😀
It’s also being reported the Moroccan will wear number 29 at Newcastle, his number at Bordeaux.
The more we find out about this player, the more we think he could be a really savvy signing for the club.
He’s 24 years old, 6’1″ tall, and has scored 42 goals for Bordeaux in 182 games for the French club since 2002.
He has already attained cult status in his homeland of Morocco.
Comments welcome.

Comment #133this is what wikipedia is sayin now . He recently seemed set to sign for Newcastle United. However, just before signing he decided to take a tour of the city. Having seen the local women, he decided against signing, claiming “I can handle ugly, but that just takes the piss. I don’t want to sound mysogynistic, but a guys got to live”.

Comment #135It may be true that the only prem team to contact AA has been us, but now that he has stated he would love to play in spain it can’t be long before he gets an offer from there. Besides, when he said we were the only team to contact him he might have meant back in Jan. Who knows though, very unlikely but fingers firmly crossed.

Comment #142this whole wikipedia episode going on is hilarious.
i can only see the funny side in people going and changing wikipedia sites, alot of the changes to his wiki today have actually been quite witty and funny, so fair play to whomever’s doing it i say.
punkskunk i agree, i tried to watch him and he didnt stand out too much like you said, but what i noticed of him i didnt think was too bad.
i also agree with you price wise, i’ll take him at the right price, i dont think we’d bother overspending on him tbh, the club overspending seems to be totally off the agenda with ashley.

Comment #143Yea Ross, he was ok against teams holland were dominating, but when he really needed to be on it, v russia, i thought he was a bit lacking!..We need players that are gonna kick ass when the goin’ gets tough!..Specially defenders & DM’s!..
…& by the sound of it, he wants to go to germany anyway!..Maybe it’s a language thing, germans closer to dutch!..

Comment #144You just don’t know how much I’m pleased, when reading all these comments about Russian Natioanl Team :)))
like “he was ok against teams holland were dominating, but when he really needed to be on it, v russia” – classic!
we were talking about new LB – Zhirkov is an option, for sure. Then Pogrebnyak – big strong CF.
As for Chamakh story – please cut’n’paste most intresting comments, and don’t post links, as it’s edited every f—king second!

the best team is the team with the cup 🙂
so we have to wait until sunday.
btw, need your advise, lads.
I have to fly home this week, BUT!!! there are just two evening flights – Thursday and Sunday!
So, do I have to miss semi (where Russia 100% play, but it’s a semi) or do I have to miss final (where we don’t play 100%, but it’s a FINAL!)???
tough decision to be made.

Comment #148Just a different slant on this apparent signing.
If we have signed him and its a big ‘if’, he appears to be target man and could be a direct replacement for Shola.
We also have an alleged bid in for Gomis another target man, would this mean The Duke and his hefty wages are on there way?
Too many ifs and buts in that theory i know but just a thought.

Russia 100% for both games mate, forget the flights home until after both games then walk home. : D
Seriously Russia are by far and away the best team in this tournament, I thought that Holland would win the whole thing after their first game (in fact I put £5 on them) but on watching the Russians tear them apart I couldn’t help but smile even though I was losing money.
Never mind Arshavin I would take any Russian player from this team back to NUFC, in fact can’t we buy them all?????????????????

Comment #151I notice there is nothing on Bordeuxs web site regarding this transfer.
I could understand Newcastle keeping quiet, but rarely do the selling team.
With all the carry on with Wikipedia (very funny) i doubt this transfer will happening. I also hope it doesnt too, we should be setting our sights higher.

Comment #152it says that he is a long life toon fan coz he watched a VHS of international superdstar barry venison lol.
best bit.
He is a tall target man and has many assists but also can score when he gets the chance. He is very agressive and is still just 24 and is one for the future. Chamakh is under contract with Bordeaux and they will play in the champions league next season. Newcastle are said to be tracking him as they search for a Alan Smith type player. Skysports, Ewood, Newcastle And Bordeaux have confirmed talks are ongoing but nothing has been confirmed
makes a lot of sense the last bit 😀

Comment #153setting our sights higher ?? 1) do you know who Chamakh is ?? 2) do you know who we are ??
we can set our sights as high as we want….we won’t get them.
Chamakh would be a typical sigining for us, young, huge potential, fairly cheap and willing to come. We will never in this moment in time, get the Arshavin’s, Van der Vaart’s. never.

Comment #154I’ll be honest TOONKING i dont know him at all and thats what i based my comment on.
Is he better than Crouch, Gomis, Bent…..i dont know the answer to that. But if hes not then why go for him as i believe we stand as much chance of landing any of those players than any club is.
I’m no footballing oracle and dont play these football computer games, but why have’nt i heard of him, why are’nt bigger clubs interested and why is the french club willing to sell.
All answer greatly appreciated.

Comment #155“micepie // Jun 23, 2008 at 18:02
I don’t know…there seems to be a strangely large text on him, and only the last bit mentions us (as if it’s been added in by a prankster)!
“He was immediately called up to the Moroccan national team and has already attained cult status in his homeland. Part of the side that reached the 2004 African Cup of Nations Final, Chamakh’s popularity in Morocco soared when he netted a last-gasp equaliser against North African rivals Algeria in the quarter-final tie which Morocco went on to win 3-1.
In 2003/04, Chamakh was a regular under Michel Pavon. With Pauleta gone and Darcheville suffering an injury-ravaged campaign, he made 25 appearances, scoring six. He is thought to have the longest inside-leg in history at 47 inches and it is rumoured that he can cross the six-yard box in just one stride.
Newcastle United will very shortly confirm that Marouane Chamakh is in fact their first signing of the summer.â€
”
The funniest part about your post, is that you don’t mention the thing about him having the longest inside-legs in the world 😛

Comment #156Hey Ben its not how long your inside leg is, its what you do with it.
And if hes uses it to ‘score’ then thats good enough for me.

Very childish of you, not to mention the fact that you could be prosecuted for libel, you have already revealed your IP address to the authorities every time you edit Wikipedia. Have a look in the “history” of the site you edited if you dont believe me!
