The Nigerian striker, Shola Ameobi, returns from his honeymoon this week, and we expect him to leave the only club he has ever played for, very shortly.
Shola Ameobi – West Brom are latest favorites to sign him
Shola has had a rough time with injuries over the last couple of seasons, mainly with his hip, and first-team opportunities have been limited as a result of this.
His hip is now OK after a successful operation last October at the famed Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Denver.
He played just 6 times last season for the Magpies, and found that he had dropped way down in the pecking order behind Mark Viduka, Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins who occupied the starting striker spots for most of last season.
And even 19 year-old England Under-19 international striker, Andy Carroll, looked like he was overtaking Shola towards the end of the season.
There have been multiple clubs interested in Shola, with interest from Stoke, Ipswich, Norwich and Hull City.
But West Brom manager Tony Mowbray looks like he is set to capture Ameobi, having already signed Luke Moore from Aston Villa and Roman Bednar from Hearts this summer.
The fee quoted in the reports is a low £2.5M, but we are hoping that Newcastle can get £4M for the player, who has made over 160 appearances for Newcastle United and 20 appearances for the England Under-21 side.
Whoever is successful in getting Shola, we expect a deal to be completed before the end of this week.
Comments welcome.

Comment #10Cant believe he’s still here – should have bailed out weeks ago. Still very worried that there has been absolutely ZERO interest in our Assistant Corner Flag Attendant, one Mr Smith of this parish!!!
Surely someone, somewhere must think he’s usefull – where is BSA when you need him eh? Surely he would take Smithy off our hands, or is this just wishfull thinking??

Comment #12Good news on Shola…even 2.5 is good money for him.
Unfortunately KK has taken on a mission to get something out of Smith.
To me you could in theory make a link player out of him, a holding midfielder, perhaps even a right back or shock of all shocks, a striker; all because he’s a physical chap with a wee bit of pace.
Unfortunately, all last year, he showed precisely no skill on the ball, no vision, patience and no ability to tackle, which kinda makes him a hard person to pick doesn’t it?

Comment #13So many managers have looked at Shola and saw the potential for him to be a class act.
It just hasn’t happened for him. In my opinion we should of sold Shola years ago when he failed to live up to his billing under Robson, but that’s just my opinion.
A couple of years at West Brom might bring out the best in Shola. I’ll wish him well (unless he’s playing the toon!)

I, for one, wish Shola all the best. He didn’t make it with us, but his heart was with Newcastle. Some of the comments on here are just damned ignorant.
I’d like Smith to go as well, but calling him every name under the sun is not going to persuade anyone, is it?
Grow up, some of you!
Regards,
Neil

Comment #17Wish Shola all the best. Think people are a bit too hard on him on this site. He’s been a good servant to this club (playing through injury, crucial goals etc). Maybe he would have reached his potential if it were not for the injuries. Hope he goes on to make a name for himself, good luck to the lad.

and Neil, this is an opinions board, if you dont like reading peoples OPINIONS fek off!!
If people have an opinion on here that Shola was shite, then so be it it is there OPINION, Shola in my Opinion wasnt even that good!!!
As for their heart is in NUFC, I didnt once see Shola give 110% to the cause on the football pitch. In fact, I would go so far as to say, Shola Ameobi was one of the Laziest players I have seen adorn the B & W of the toon!! IMO!!!
He is no good, never was, and never will be so Bye bye Samual Netto!!!
PS. My heart Newcastle, but give me a ticket to Barbados and I’ll snap yer Fekkin hand off matey!!!

Comment #22“…the reported £2.5 million is a lot less than previous reports suggesting the sale value would be nearer £4 million. But that just sounds like the wife comeing home from the shops with a hideous pair of shoes that she’s got in the sale and telling you just how much she’s saved. Oh dear.”
West Borm fans hillarious reaction to the news.

Comment #37@ANON, i dont need an invite from you to join this debate.
My opinion is, i think you are a mackem 13 year old who wets the bed and eats his own shite because food is quite scarce in Pennywell.
As for my mammy calling for me to have my bath, that is wor lass wanting me in the double shower ive just had fitted for a session with her new tits 😉
Il leave you to pull your little pud in your tiny little Pennywell bedroom. Watch out your mammy dosent catch you at it tho!

Comment #38Excellent comeback Ronaldeano!! Mature in your response!!
BUT, i would have thought with a lass as fat as yours (So fat you have to build a double shower for her) she wouldnt need a new pair of T*Ts, unless she has had to have a them remove as they were scraping along the floor ;-)!!

Are all opinions not opinionated…..is that not the point?
That seems a very hypercritical remark, especially on a blog site.
Then you remark about how clever it is for others to abuse you, then you abuse others.
Again hypercritical.
Have your opinions mate, but if you cant take it dont dish it out.

Comment #40@ANON, when you had your filthy little fingers around your tiny little chipalatta last night you were imagining that you were me in the shower with such an amazing looking woman which is my long blonde hair, size DD breasts, tanned, toned and feck of the century wife wasent you 😉
Its a pity that you will NEVER pull such a woman because you are a scruffy little tramp from Pennywell that stinks of pi*s.
Il leave you with that thaught and you can pull ya pud once again. But wash ya hands first (if ya water is on) or you will scare off the ugly mackem lasses (the only ones you are able to pull) with your smelly little manhood. 😉
