It’s Kevin Keegan’s second day back at the office, but there’s nothing much going on in the Newcastle transfer market these last couple of days.
Kevin Keegan – will be in talks with Wise and Llambias
Of course, as we all know it takes a day or two to get back into the swing of things after a holiday, but with pre-training starting at Newcastle in only 13 days time, we will need to get moving on the transfer front.
We’re sure Kevin is deep in discussion with Dennis Wise and new Managing Director Derek Llambias, on the transfer targets.
Having already lost 6 players from the first team squad, plus Joey Barton landing himself in jail, we definitely expect players to be arriving within the next two weeks.
We also think Kevin wants his players in as early as possible, so they have the advantage of a full pre-season of training with the rest of the lads.
And although we’ve been linked with almost every player imaginable, it’s hard to really say who we’re really after.
We went after Luka Modric and Andrei Arshavin, both great players, but both of those are now out of reach.
And with Shay Given wanting to end his career on Tyneside, there’s no need wasting our time looking for a goalkeeper.
That’s an area we’re really strong in with two great experienced goalkeepers in Given and Harper, plus two excellent young 20 year olds in Forster and Krul, and also outstanding Swedish 17 year old, Ole Solderburg.
The players we think we can get and who we hope Newcastle will pursue are the following:
Carlos Cuellar – Rangers – center-back
Nicky Shorey – Reading – left-back
Yuriy Zhirkov – CSKA Moscow – left wing back
Fabricio Collocini – Deportivo – center-back
Denis Kolodin – Dynamo Moscow – center-back
Pascal Chimbonda – Spurs – right-back – we still like him 😀
Sebastian Larsson– Birmingham – right midfield
Pablo Aimar – Real Zaragoza – central midfield
Roman Pavlyuchenko – Spartak Moscow – striker
Aaron Lennon – Spurs – winger
Arda Turan – Galatasaray – winger
There’s 11 good players and any one of them would be a good quality acquisition for Newcastle.
But now that Modric and Arshavin are not available, we haven’t covered many central midfielders in the group above. Deco is too old and wouldn’t come in any case.
It may be that we can go after Rafael Van der Vaart from Hamburg, and FC Twente midfielder Orlando Engelaar.
We don’t know if we will have any chance for Van der Vaart if bigger clubs come in for him, and Orlando turns 29 in August, and is probably too old for what Newcastle are looking for this summer.
There are also a number of youngsters we will also bring in during the summer, but those are of secondary importance right now, with our current first team squad being so small.
What do you think – and who are the good players out there, we can still attract to Tyneside?
Comments welcome.

Comment #41Why is everybody getting so upset that we have not made any signings as yet? There was an article in a paper this weekend highlighting completed and potential transfers made this summer, over 1/2 the Premier League teams have yet to make a signing and with the obvious exeption of Modric no one of note has signed for anyone. Wait till the Euros are over and I am sure we will see some quality signings. Anyway the summer transfer windows recently has, unfortunatly been the best time for any NUFC fan as life has been pretty dull during the season for the past few years.

Comment #42My heart says we’ve signed a few already and we’ll have a press conference on july 1st but then my head kicks in and says ‘Don’t be silllly!’
Personally I’d love to see Arda, Emana and I know this was a while ago but I rate Diane from PSG he’s been quoted saying he’d love to play for the Toon which is always a bonus not a good goal scoring record though. But I still reckon he’d do better than the ‘BIG NAME’ signings of last year, Alan ‘the benchwarmer’ Smith and Joey ‘the jailbird’ Barton which I suppose wouldn’t be too hard. Anything would be an improvement on last year as all of our signings were pretty pooor (apart from Beye).

Comment #45We definitely need more goals coming from midfield this season. We constantly rely on the forwards to score but they can have an off day like any other player.

Comment #47Yeah but it still all depends on what happens to Zog, Milner, Martins and Owen…
Hopefully KK will make them all want to stay and want them all to stay and just add to it….
suppose it all depends on Mike Ashley really and I hope he hasn’t told KK to sell before he can buy cos we could end up running out of time….
It looks like Dennis Wise is struggling to find one signing let alone getting us almost a full new team by the end of August.

i think we need another winger apart from zog and milner and we have two choices lenon or arda
i would go for arda reason being the guy is better than lennon, he can also play in centre of the field
and he has got a great heart…..
about veleso i would surely be partying if he come shere……
there is one name i that list that excites me- beckford
i know everybody here rates him below par, but i have faith in wise’s talent selection (and he has proved that).

Comment #53Anyone think KK might be able to use Milner as a central attacker and turn him in to the next Beardsley?
He’s young enough to learn the role, loves to do tricky moves and has a great shot with both feet but like Beardsley he isnt that effective as a winger due to lack of pace.
He would need to adapt in terms of his link up play and short-passing but at 21 and with the effort he puts in…he could do it maybe.
Arshavin is 27….Milner 21…..it would be worth a go cos when Toon played Heerenveen at home a couple of seasons back he played there and had a great game…and scored a cracker.
Thoughts?

Comment #69MickyGD We would never get Park from ManUre and am not sure we would want him, to much like Smith for me all heart with nothing to so for it!! I do not. I do not think we need a total team overhaul..
Given,
Baye, Taylor, Cuellar, Enrique (he is young and only been hear one season)
Milner, Butt/Engelaar, Arshavin, Zoggy
Owen (most of his goals from his head lat season)
Martins
