Juventus Move In For Newcastle Target Arda

Bad news being reported today in the Newcastle Journal, that Italian giants Juventus have entered the race for Arda Turan, the 21 year-old emerging Turkey midfielder.

Arda Turan – Juventus reported after him

It seems that Newcastle had tried to tie up a £9M deal for the Galatasaray youngster before Euro 2008 even started.

But Galatasaray, like most other clubs, wanted to hang onto their stars until after the tournament, hoping their player would perform well, and the price would increase, which is exactly what has happened with Arda, who has looked some player.

Juventus are said to be ready to offer Galatasaray target Jonathan Zebina and midfielder Sergio Almiron in exchange for the skillful winger.

We’ll just have to wait and see what transpires, as we expect the club right now to be busy on our transfer targets, but if Juventus are indeed after the player, that may well rule Newcastle out.

However, Arda has said he would like to play in either England or Spain, so all may not be lost yet.

This summer Newcastle find themselves in the third group of clubs. The first group can offer Champions League football and the second group can offer some UEFA football, but unfortunately, for next season, we can offer neither.

S0 it may be tough getting the very best players onto Tyneside, at least this summer.  Of course a lot can change in a year.

On the positive side of things, Newcastle’s scouting network have shown they can certainly pick out the top players, but we’ll have to learn from our mistakes and once we are sure on a player – sign him.

Because we didn’t move aggressively enough in the transfer market, it looks like we’ll miss out on both Turan and Arshavin, two very good players to say the least.

But there are also other very good players out there that can do a job for the club, so Newcastle fans needn’t get too down in the dumps about these two, and Keegan has shown repeatedly he has a great eye for players.

Comments welcome.

We have missed out 2 great players. If only our board is willing to up a million or 2 before euro08, we may have get asharvin and turan! And their value will be much worth. WTH!

does’nt surprise me that Arda is being noticed by the giants off football now..

It seems like there not willing to offer money which is exactly what Galatasaray want..If we stick in a bid off 14 mill we would be in for a great chance at getting him…We ned to make a move immediatley after the Euro’s..

    go for diego !! .
i think we can prise champions league players away from clubs who are not in the three main leagues .
they all wanna be in the premiership rather than getting knocked outa the group stages of champions league footy !

Has anything more been said about our bid for Arda?

It’s been tight lips at this end since we put an offer in.

Juventus won’t get this guy unless they offer cash and convince him that Italy is better than Spain or England.

My only fear here is that some of the big Spanish clubs will have spotted his performances in this tournament.

Not sure if Barca or Real Mardrid will think he’s good enough for them, but there are plenty of good sides that will.

Let’s just hope that little Dennis Wise did his job properly before the Euros.

You never know, this could have been tied up already.

Here we go again. Another missed opportunity. NUFC seem to be acting as scouts for other clubs, British and European. The sad reality is that players do not want to come here. As it is not the geordies and the city itself putting them off, then what is it?

By suggesting that he would like to play in England or Spain that must mean Emre hasn’t said anything bad about us and why would he? He doesn’t want one of Turkeys best players to be playing against him next season, does he??

Nothing new here, it’s been obvious since the first game of the Euros that we missed our chance. 11 million quid and he would have been ours before the Euros, he was apparently interested aswell, now he’s not going to give a hoot about Newcastle with the options open to him. We’re also priced out of a move, if Ashley was too tight to pay 11 then there’s no way in blue hell he’ll be happy to pay 15 a few weeks later.

sas – ha ha ha, very funny.

Juve seldom pay big bucks for youngsters these years – either they get established stars for hell lot of $ or more often they snap up ageing or decent-at-best players from other leagues for free. turkish players don’t have great record in serie A so for a young rising star far from a finished article la liga or EPL is now the place. more worried about him following Nihat’s footstep and joining some decent teams there just behind Barca and Real

He’s not worth £14m. I’d rather have Bentley if we were gonna pay that amount, and I wouldn’t have him either!

Jimmy Bullard is a better buy than both of them, considering the money being touted!

tbh, i have to agree with hadrian somewhat – whilst it may seem far fetched, what harm would it do placing a cheeky punt on the table for VDV and Diego? the big clubs seem to be more focused on other talents and we certainly have the lure of the Prem, we certainly have the money – you can’t win the lotto if you don’t put a ticket on – I hope we have, or are testing the water, because just imagine it

@Geordie Nick: It’s all fair and well you saying that, but he’s only played in the Turkish league. And no disrespect to the Turks, but that league is not even comparable to the EPL. Luque was a class player in the Primera, but he came to EPL and was proper rubbish. So I don’t think it’s fair to compare a non EPL player to an EPL player who has shown that he can do it.

But this is going away from my point. Both players cost too much and will come with added pressure of being big players. Would it not be better to buy cheaper, less pressurised players that can have the same impact? Lennon and Bullard are exapmles of such players. Although, Lennon cannot cross to save his life!

I have said it in the past and I will repeat it.

There is something still not right at NUFC.IMO

I just find it all hard to believe that we were supposed to have bid in excess of 16m for Modric, yet we are not or dint seem willing to go anywhere near that for Arshavin????(Supposedly)

And then there is the Turan thing, we are baulking at 9m for turan (Supposedly)

Is it just me, or does it seem like this bunch are VERY loathe to put their hands in their pockets?

all i’m going to say is that EPL is a physical league…to play here you need to be strong..or fast…and arda is neither..so…i hope we don’t get him…especially not for 14m!!

    i mean…zhirkov is valued at 10m..and he’s 10x better…

Some of you need to get over yourselves. Do you really think that our club is the only one to have spotted the talents of Arda, Arshavin, etc.. before Euro 2008. Don’t be so daft. No one is stealing anyone from us. We are not finding hidden gems, publicising the fact and then watching other clubs steal them from under our noses.

Ed, lets be honest here, other than press speculation, the only thing we really know is that we made a bid for Modic.

No other bids have been confirmed by NUFC; we have NO idea who the targets actually are as nothing has been said by the club. A very sensible course of action, but it does leave us fans feeling very frustrated at what appears to be complete inaction on the transfer front.

Obviously, it has to be assumed that the club are chasing their targets behind the scenes and playing their cards close to their chest. If not, then we hardly have a team for next season.

Hopefully, we will start seeing new players being unveiled at SJP in the not too distant future, but until they are, conjecture and speculation will continue to run rampant in the press.

agree davey, the comunication with the fans isn’t the best so it leaves us all wondering whats happening but if signings are made and they’re decent it isn’t a problem, but until that happens all we have to go of is contradicting press stories for example newcastle are only to sign young cheaper players, then we are linked with engellar and aimar its just going to be a case of not knowing what ashleys so called blue print for the club really is untill we sign our first player, only trouble is waiting to see drives you mad

Just put in a bid of 14M punds and get him?

Hmm, I think he´s q quite good player, but if we payed over 10M punds for him I would think we had made a bad transfer… Can´t se him much better than Zog, if better at all, so pay Owen and Shearer money for him almost? No way, understands why Wise didn´t want to pay more than 9M…

He has scored 2 goals, and done ok, but in the game against Croatia, I was far from impressed, and belive I have many of you with me there? Not worth any 10M in that game….

BUT if we didn’t sign anybody…then..then..i’ll fly to england and…hide all candys from ashley?
