Bad news being reported today in the Newcastle Journal, that Italian giants Juventus have entered the race for Arda Turan, the 21 year-old emerging Turkey midfielder.
Arda Turan – Juventus reported after him
It seems that Newcastle had tried to tie up a £9M deal for the Galatasaray youngster before Euro 2008 even started.
But Galatasaray, like most other clubs, wanted to hang onto their stars until after the tournament, hoping their player would perform well, and the price would increase, which is exactly what has happened with Arda, who has looked some player.
Juventus are said to be ready to offer Galatasaray target Jonathan Zebina and midfielder Sergio Almiron in exchange for the skillful winger.
We’ll just have to wait and see what transpires, as we expect the club right now to be busy on our transfer targets, but if Juventus are indeed after the player, that may well rule Newcastle out.
However, Arda has said he would like to play in either England or Spain, so all may not be lost yet.
This summer Newcastle find themselves in the third group of clubs. The first group can offer Champions League football and the second group can offer some UEFA football, but unfortunately, for next season, we can offer neither.
S0 it may be tough getting the very best players onto Tyneside, at least this summer. Of course a lot can change in a year.
On the positive side of things, Newcastle’s scouting network have shown they can certainly pick out the top players, but we’ll have to learn from our mistakes and once we are sure on a player – sign him.
Because we didn’t move aggressively enough in the transfer market, it looks like we’ll miss out on both Turan and Arshavin, two very good players to say the least.
But there are also other very good players out there that can do a job for the club, so Newcastle fans needn’t get too down in the dumps about these two, and Keegan has shown repeatedly he has a great eye for players.
