Newcastle Visit Hartlepool – Pre-Season Almost Finalized

Hartlepool United today announced they will play Newcastle United in a pre-season friendly next month.

Newcastle have also announced they have arranged nearly all of their pre-season games.

Danny Wilson’s side will take on Newcastle at Victoria Park on Saturday July 19 – KO 3:00 PM, two days after Hartlepool return from their pre-season tour of Scotland.

Newcastle visited Hartlepool last year on the 17th July, and came away with a 3-1 victory – James Brown scored for Pools, and Michael Owen and two from Shola Ameobi were the goalscorers for the Magpies.

This may become a yearly event.

On Saturday, July 26, Newcastle will then visit the Keepmoat Stadium, home of newly-promoted Championship side Doncaster Rovers for a 3pm kick-off.

Newcastle will then take part in the Mallorca Summer Cup tournament in the ONO Estadi, Palma.

Fixtures for the tournament are as follows:

Friday, August 1
Newcastle United v Hertha Berlin (kick-off 8pm)
RCD Mallorca v Hannover 96 (kick-off 10pm)

Sunday, August 3
Hannover 96 v Hertha Berlin (kick-off 8pm)
RCD Mallorca v Newcastle United (kick-off 10pm)

The format for the tournament is 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 1 point for every goal scored. A 2-0 win would get us 5 points and a 3-2 defeat would get us 2 points.

Matches that finish all square after 90 minutes will be decided on penalties, with three points going to the side that wins the shoot-out.

Newcastle then return home for a friendly with Spanish side Valencia on Saturday, August 9 (kick-off tba).

Newcastle are also still looking at the possibility of one additional home friendly, to be played on either Tuesday, August 5, or Wednesday, August 6, according to the official Newcastle United Site.

Wonder if Fat Freddy will have got his hands on RCD Mallorca by the time we play them….

It’d be nice to beat his team.

totally unrelated……but i’ve just read that wigan have told sibereski that he can leave on a free. I would love it if we re-signed him, does anyone know if he left for personal reasons or was just released by the club? if it’s the latter i would definated bring him back for a bit of back up and experience for carroll and co.

Ian – I think it was the lenght of the contract which sibi was offered by Newcastle, that was the reason he left. He wanted 2 years and was only offered 1.

Looks like a good pre season schedule, and lets hope some new players are brought in soon, so the team can get ready for next season properly.

Ian – As much as I liked Sibierski I think he’s a bit old now. Still, I think he’ll always be a cult hero up here.

I’m sure it was reported here sometime ago that we would be playing Ipswich as a regular thing in pre-season for Bobby Robson’s foundation. Is this still going to happen or has the Shanghai heat got to my Brain and I’m losing the plot…? 🙂
