This will not come as a big shock to Newcastle fans, but Arda Turan will not be coming to Newcastle this summer.

Arda Turan – agent says he will be moving to Italy
So we’ll get neither Turan or Arshavin this summer, so we’ll have to move onto whatever other players are on the list.
Although we missed out on Modric, Turan and Arshavin, all three are excellent players, and it shows we’re after class, as Kevin has repeatedly said he needs.
But we’ve done so bad in the league since Bobby Robson left in 2004, that we’re no longer a big club that can necessarily attract the very best.
Let’s hope we can start changing that next season.
Ahmet Bulut, who is also the agent of Newcastle’s Fenerbahçe-bound midfielder Emre, told the Italian sports paper Corriere dello Sport today:
“There will be a decision next week when the European Championships have ended and we will reveal all then,â€
“A lot of clubs have contacted me about Arda, even though the asking price for him has risen.”
“Milan and Juventus are both interested and we will start speaking about things on Monday.”
“However, I confirm that next season Arda Turan will play in Italy.â€
Bulut’s statement directly contradicts what Arda himself said earlier this week that he would like to play in either Spain or England.
Kevin Keegan has been back at the office since Monday, but surprisingly hasn’t given any interviews yet, so we expect he’s heads down with Dennis Wise and new Managing Director Derek Llambias, and sorting out who’s available and who our targets will now be.
We’re 0-3 in the transfer market this season, but we have seen lots of good players in Euro 2008, and there are still others available that could do a job for us next season, so we’ll have to keep our heads up until we start to see players moving to the club.
Comments welcome.

i am pissed off we hav been far too slow this summer
2 JMC // Jun 26, 2008 at 9:54 AM
This is getting silly, i mean…
Arda Turan, Andrei Arshavin, Bafetimbi Gomis, Richard Dunne, Didier Digard, Diego, Mario Gomez, Dimitar Berbatov, Thierry Henry, Peter Crouch, Guy Demel, Kapo, Danny Guthrie, Aaron Spear, Sebastian Larsson, John Arne Risse, Emiliano Insua, Jack Hobbs, Jose Antonio Reyes, Anthony Gardner, Nikola Zigic, Deco, Dean Ashton, Michael Dawson, Mikel Arteta, Pablo Aimar, Stéphane Mbia, Oscar Cardozo, Carlos Cuellar, Fabricio Coloccini, Djbrill Cisse, Joaquin, Kieran Westwood, Gary Madine, Wayne Hennessy, Eren Derdiyok, Achille Emana, Sidney Govou, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Juan Manuel Vargas, Miguel Veloso, Jonny Evans, Amara Diane, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Edgar Davids, Aidan McGeady, Roque Santa Cruz, Sol Campbell, Steven Davis, Andrew Johnson, Stephen Ireland, Steve Sidwell, Giles Barnes, Mamadou Sakho, Sam Vokes, Stéphane Sesegnon and Rafael van der Vaart just to name a few.
All because of the internet……..
But thanks Ed, i like the excitement!!! Keep it up

Read this, its a relly good article…
With the transfer window set to open in just under a week from now, fans of all clubs throughout the Premiership will be hoping to see their team pick up the pace and get some new faces through the door, yet for some Newcastle fans things haven’t moved fast enough and they’re already getting restless and panicking even though hardly any transfers are being done by other Premiership clubs, it’s hasn’t always been like this…
Years ago before sites like this, the Summer was never filled with panic, the reason for that was we got our information about transfers either because of a rumour in the paper (which was more reliable than the rubbish printed now I should add) or on the news/teletext when the deal had been completed, the Internet has changed that completely and sites are operating 24 hours a day pumping out links to players, most of it is bollocks but occasionally some reliable bits will come through.
The new climate of constant information, no matter how unreliable has created a buzz amongst fans for things to be done quickly and constantly when in fact some players who are reported to be signing on the Internet are not even in contact with the club, since we last kicked a ball 52 days ago we’ve been linked with all sorts of players.
It’s easy to see why some fans seem desperate for someone to sign when they get this level of information shoved down their throat, that’s the equivalent of being linked with someone new every day since we last played!
Sorting through the facts and bull is a lot of hassle so my advice would be to just get out, enjoy the Summer and worry about who we have and haven’t signed when the season kicks off.

it is a good article JMC, i read that yesterday.
People will still probably overlook your post for one reason or the other. people will see it as to big to read or because its not in tune with their own negativity.
its true though. only spurs have got players signed up provisionaly. the rest , including newcastle will be moving behind the scenes to get things started next week.
it still wont sink in with people though.
keegan will get players in. it will happen.
as for arda going to italy.
why? whats so good about italy? its a dying league! no longer a powerfull league like it was in the nineties!
7 James // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:05 AM
Not convinced Keegan wanted him that badly. Only for a reasonable price.
However, bear in mind, Everton, Portsmouth, and Reading have proved you don’t need to sign superstars to have a very good top 7 season.
It’s about finding the right players that compliment each other. Far more important than the name on the back of the jersey.
Whatever players we sign Keegan will make us breathe as one and finish in the top six.
Believe!
8 DAvies // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:05 AM
Don’t blame anybody. If the boy wants to go to Italy, it doesn’t matter what we offer, he won’t come.
This could be more crap from Arda’s agents to send his price up further. Like Ed says, he was after Spain and England last week, he can’t have changed his mind about his ambitions that quickly can he?
Everybody just chill.

10 gorskino10 // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:10 AM
No blame the players they put no effort into the shirt like smith, geremi, butt having these players have killed nufc. I think speculation has killed our chances as it let’s other clubs know like Modric who went to spur stealers. I just hope we get so exciting players in a no players who could be considered panic buying as keV must be worried as he wanted most players in by next week which won’t happen.

Make up your mind. I think he’ll go where the money is.
15 Hadrian // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:21 AM
probably the best thing tbh , the extra hype on these two players after the euros has been blown out of proportion, along with their asking prices .
moneys best spent elsewhere .

I’m fine with that, I always thought that his legs are to small and he looks a bit strange…anyway, hope we can bring in lennon and other hungry young players!
17 Toony Montana // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:34 AM
NOT CONVINCED!!!
AC Milan have already come out and said that Adeybayor is their only transfer target and Juve have apparently offered 2 players for him….but Gala are skint.
If it is true we should seriously look into signing someone like Aimar.
18 craig chisholm // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:37 AM
JMC, awsome list, do you think we’ll get em all!!!
19 Big Si // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:38 AM
You all need to forget about top players like Turan, Arshavin etc, we won’t be getting any of them, your dreaming and getting false hopes. We will be signing young lads who are under 22 who probably no-one has heard of. We will have another mid-table season letting the youngsters establish themselves in the prem.
I think that’s fine, build a good solid platform for years to come but my gripe is how can they justify putting up the prices of the season tickets whilst planning for another season of mediocrity ? How much will the prices fly up if we eventually get into the top 6 or even the top 4? Mr Ashley is plating a canny game here I think, ripping the fans off again !!! Hope I’m wrong but feels like it.
20 Punk Skunk // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:39 AM
Tbh, while Arda shows some great skill & odd flashes, i thought he lacked positional sense in his last game…As if he’d left his football brain in the locker room, anyone else notice that?..
…Hey he’s young & can learn, but it was a bit disconcerting, considering how much they want for him!..
21 Punk Skunk // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Why would anyone wanna go to play in italy?..
…Ah!..Maybe so they can walk thru games doin’ ball all, i guess…Easy way to make money for nowt!..
22 bettyswollocks // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:49 AM
two things: 1. arda is not the be all and end all. a couple of good games in the euros means nowt. anyone remember karel poborsky?
2. this is all about his agent pushing up the transfer fee and in doing so pushing his comission cheque up. It is prob bollocks about him wanting to move to italy.

24 valle // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:54 AM
All the people responsible for bringing tranfers through the door will have learned a harsh lesson by now, by turning every penny we have now lost out on sevral players, and the price we refused to pay then have now doubled and not even a bid of the original sum will now get them.
25 Punk Skunk // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:55 AM
I reckon craig c is supersticious & it’s a double bluff!..
26 Spyro // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:57 AM
quite frankly i dont care if he wants to go to Italy. He is overrated and overpriced. Like Tom Toon says, he is slow. I was still slightly interested when his price went up to 12 million as that is the maximum i would ever pay for him, then 16 million came out and i thought “F**K THAT!”. forget him, i will be happy if we miss out on him if he does end up costing more than 12 million
27 Punk Skunk // Jun 26, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Aye Spyro!..
28 Spyro // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM
lets also remember that he only really played well in one match in the tournament, and that was his first one, the second match he got a goal and it made his all round performance look better than it was. the only reason his price went up is because of a couple of lucky goals.
he was shocking against croatia, a hard working, unit of a team
29 GSfan // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Gawd, not Italy, noooo. And ye, why would anyone wanna go to Italy? Seriously… The matches played there are so damn boring: “Hey lads Katenaggio FTW! LOL, let’s all defend!”. I think this is rubbish and his greedy agent’s just trying to get Italian clubs interested. I’d be very disappointed to see this golden kid leave to such a boring league, but our youth coaches insist that there are many more Ardas coming up very soon… I hope they’re right! (Aydin is said to be the next one, let’s see how he performs in his first season ever)
Bettyswollocks – He didn’t just have 2-3 good games. The kid was a star way before the Euros. The Euros was just a chance for those, who haven’t seen him play in the Champion’s League and the Turkish league, to get a taste of him. He has carried us through the whole season where we beat even Fenerbahce to the title.
Seems some other people (or person) will always be prejudiced about Turkish players :p No worries, you’re just making yourselves look foolish.
And that article is really nice. The internet really has made things more hectic in terms of rumours.

32 Spyro // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:14 AM
you know what, scrap maximum 12 million, he aint worth a penny over 11million
33 bettyswollocks // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:26 AM
gsfan – who was being prejudiced against turkish players?
and the point i was trying to make was it would be silly to get over-excited and pay over the odds for a player who is unproven in the english league. I cited poborsky as an example because he looked an absolute world beater until he signed for man utd where he largely garbage. I have nothing against signing arda but I wouldnt be gutted if we lost out on him andi wouldnt want us to get dragged into a bidding war either.
34 Col // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:34 AM
I’d rather be in Italy for the weather, which is just getting worse here. Speaking of Italy, does anyone na oot aboot Zamblera?
35 GSfan // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:37 AM
Naw, I just meant one person Bettyswollocks :p wasn’t having a go at you at all. Fair enough if you would or wouldn’t rate him. That thing I said was directed at someone else.
And ye, the bidding war is really something discouraging, but that’s exactly what our club wants (just like any other club who would want to sell someone). Just bumps up the bid premium. It’d be nice if you could find many others like Arda but only for cheaper and who have yet been undiscovered of course. The lads in the Euros are as good as discovered now unfortunately.
36 gorskino10 // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:37 AM
I fort he looked good but typical them raising the price up by 50% but hes good but not worth that sort of money and to be fair i think Asharvin is though, he has everything a playmaker needs and look hes scores and sets up for others, but it loooks like once again it was slow work by our board not to be having a go but if were after Asharvin then you knew if Russia beat England then they stood a great chance of getting through and doing well so they should of relised this and got him before for 10 mill but now hes off to Barca and if not them then Man U,Ac Millan etc… what did you guys think about that guy for Turkey who has scored 3 goals Serturk (sorry spelt near this) he scored yesterday in to make it 2-2 he looked quite good over the Euro i thought??
37 Zarate4Toon // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:37 AM
ok then, now lets move for Zarate Lennon Boussoufa/Aimar. they can at least provide more skill and pace and backup we miss so badly in our attack. and we need to get Derdiyok or Zigic or whatever decent big man out there. then goals may be not too hard to come by as hopefully our goal machines in OM and MO still work.
38 GSfan // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:38 AM

39 gorskino10 // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Zarate did look like the player we need but the Price is way to high 22mill no way…. good signing i would think we COULD get are.
* Roman Pavlychenko
* Lennon
* Aimar
* Zhirkov
Then we may need 1 more player (DF or MF) then its done.
40 faustino // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:44 AM
For gods sake, I couldn’t give a shake of a sh*t anymore – by all accounts Arshavin and Arda have total cretins for agents, a la N’Zogbia and have more than likely got the egos and commitment to match. Not what we need next year.
Couple of defeats and your new star players agent starts shoving them down to london and making statements to the press. Sounds great ey.
Put it this way – imagine WE are Zenit fans. Just won the Uefa cup, amazing season, off to the champs league and our star player, [who's on blo*dy decent money], heads to Euro 2008 and him and his agent don’t shut up about wanting to play for Barcelona. Exactly.
41 steve // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:53 AM
Wierd that people are saying we are moving to slow – we put bid in – either club or player says no chance and head off to a better club/climate.
Can hardly blame Wise and all for players not wanting to goto toon.
Turks were extremely unlucky last night in what was a great game – bloody jammy germans
42 AUTIBO // Jun 26, 2008 at 11:53 AM
some cheaper and possibly better players have appeared in the euro’s. turan looked decent but he’s scored a flukey deflection and another that cech would’ve gathered comfortably on any other day. other than that i’ve not seen much to warrant a £15m+ pricetag, much like with modric
i’ve liked the look of rakitic and srna (croatia am’s), afellay and de jong (holland mc’s), plasil (czech winger), aurelio and semih (turkey dm and fw), zhirkov denisov semak and anyukov (russia) and inler (switz i think). i feel that any of these would be realistic and cheaper options than the likes of the excellent arshavin and the good, but overrated turan.
also pogrebnyak is a cracking russia striker who unfortunately missed the tournament because of a last-minute injury. he’s not had the chance to put himself in the shop window the way pavlyuchenko has, so surely we could act quickly and get him signed up. i reckon he’d have probably started ahead of pavlyuchenko was it not for his injury. pogrebnyak and arshavin were the TWO reasons for zenit’s success this season. pogrebnyak is very much the unsung hero of that side
43 Gateshead Mag. // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:18 PM
Sounds like a woman who can’t make his mind up. One minute he wants to go to England. The next Spain. The next Italy.
WTF?
44 NUFCAl // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:23 PM
LOL
It’s nothing to do with the size of the club in this case, it’s nothing to do with European football like with players like Modric, it’s because of those incompetent tools at the head of our club.
We were chasing him, wouldn’t offer the right money, Galatasaray said we would have had him in the bag for 11million, he even said he was waiting for us, he wanted to come. Fair play, he’s played well in the Euros and played his way to a better club, same with Arshavin, but people shouldn’t kid themselves and say with these ones that we didn’t have a chance from the start because we did, Fat Ash was just too f*cking stingy and Wise is f*cking useless.
We had to tie him up beforehand because it was clear from his first game he was something special.
PATHETIC.
45 faustino // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:32 PM
Disagree…looks good but not special. One footed and lacks pace. As i said beofre if he was that good he’d be heading to Barca, Real or one of our top 3/4 Will fit in fine in the Serie A.
Would be ’special’ in our current squad but not on a world scale. Remember that at NO point in the WHOLE tournament did Turkey look like comfortably beating someone until Arda wasnt playing. Then they lost.
46 Matthew // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:35 PM
It was £13 million we could have had him for wasn’t it? I don’t think he’s worth that now tbh.
As for him being slow, I don’t think he’s that slow and would say he was as quick as Joe Cole but like Cole he’s got great ability with the ball at his feet which means he can buy himself more time.
47 NUFCAl // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:42 PM
Could have had him for 11 before the tournament – we offered 8 or something.
Sure he lacks a bit of pace, but he just doesn’t lose the ball. He can always get himself out of situations and always finds a team mate. I think he’d be more useful played in a central position. His game reminds me of a less accomplished Modric, but he’s only a bairn. He’ll be a star.
48 gorskino10 // Jun 26, 2008 at 12:45 PM
Damm thinking about the situation of Transfers do you think its been all bad news at Newcastle we have been linked with some crap players like Guthrie etc… then the good players like Modric,Arda, Asharvin we miss out due to NUFC slowness on transfers we should get these done quick as possible not wait around as you know we got him anyway because times have chnged and people dont see going to Newcastle as a good move.
Arda will be good for Juventus shame we wont get him though.
49 Faustino // Jun 26, 2008 at 1:26 PM
No contract signed before the 1st would have been worth the paper its written on. We’d have lost them anyway.
Accept it. Next year isnt about ‘challenging’ for jack. It’s about trying to get into a position where we can sign the kind of players we want now.
50 Spyro // Jun 26, 2008 at 1:39 PM
i agree faustino, we wont be anywhere near top 5 for another few years. and even that depends on our buys between now and then
51 Merve // Jun 26, 2008 at 1:58 PM
I think he shouldn’t go to Italy as Turkish footballers -including Hakan Şükür, Ümit Davala, Emre BelözoÄŸlu and Okan Buruk- hadn’t achieved much there.
I think Spain or England will be a better choice for him. And as he has already told a lot of times before the tournament -i’ve heard him saying this even a year ago- he prefers Premier League… (maybe he’s attracted to the press’ ability to turn people into stars, as much as i do.)
But as his manager is one of the most annoying ones of all the times, it’s not interesting for me to hear news like this one. I won’t be surprised if the manager makes a dramatically bad choice about Arda’s career either.
I don’t want to be pessimistic about anything, hoping that whatever route is chosen, it will be the best for Arda.
Last night during the Germany match i realized Fenerbahçe and Turkish National Team substitute left winger UÄŸur Boral was really good too. (I thought this as a Gala fan… yeah, i can’t believe in myself either…) What do you think about him?
52 The Entertainers // Jun 26, 2008 at 2:03 PM
I think from the entries in this blog, its plain to see there are other top quality players out there.
There will be 1-2 real star players arrive at Newcastle i believe and then some promising 20+ aged players.
I just wish KK would not turn his nose up at South America. It appears to me anyway, that our scouting team can find talented players, so give them a chance with a S.American.
Juniniho and Solano have proven that not all South Americans find it hard to settle in the North East, besides if you look at the amount of players in the PL today from that area there are loads more than ever before.
Last season these teams all took a chance on players from the Americas:
Arsenal
Birmingham
Chelsea
Derby
Liverpool
Man C
Man U
Boro
Spurs
Sunderland
West Ham.
Go on KEV take a chance!

Can´t people understand we didn´t move to slow, gala waited for the euro to se if his price would rise, and it did, and now the bigger clubs are after him… Ardas agent and Gala are not stupid, wy would they rush a move to Newcastle, when what happend might culd happen…?
Plus, Don´t think he is worth more than 6-7 M punds anyway… He has been good, but not that good, and the 12-14M punds people here talk about we should have offerd so that we could have got him would have been just silly…
Wouldn´t mind him coming here, but to me he is not better than Zog anyway, and pay that cind of money, no for me…
56 The Entertainers // Jun 26, 2008 at 3:55 PM
I think your right about Zog being just as good.
But is his head right, does he want to stay?
KK has to make him 1st choice on the left wing if hes still here. Still think we could do with another left winger if Duff goes or if Zog goes!
Where do you think Zog’s best position is? I know Souness said CM, but i prefer him out wide.
