There’s not much new news in the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today, but there again, it’s been very quiet this week, with hardly no news at all coming out of St. James’ Park.
 James Milner - having a laugh
The Chronicle has a good interview with James Milner, who now looks to be staying at Newcastle, after being linked with both Liverpool and Aston Villa, and we’re pleased about that.
James has had his first long summer rest for a few seasons, in fact apparently since turning professional, and his England Under-21 colleague, Steven Taylor, has also had a good rest.
Both were involved last year with the Euro Under-21 Championships, and they’ll be busy with those again next summer, when the finals take place in Sweden next June.
James has 36 (6 goals) caps so far for the England under-21 side, a record, and Steven, who is the captain, has 25 caps (4 goals).
England are almost certain to qualify, and even have a good chance of winning it, with the very good team they have.
James talked about his free summer:
“It’s the first time since I’ve been a player that I’ve had a summer off.” “A long summer break is nice.”
” Last season was a long one, and obviously with the European Champion-ships for the Under-21s, it has been a long couple of years.”
“It’s been good to chill out for a couple of weeks – but I hope to come back flying.â€
Milner is now contracted to Newcastle for the next 3 years, and has often talked of his happiness at the club.
The Yorkshireman signed for Newcastle for £3.6M from Leeds United, his home town club, back in the summer of 2004.
At that time, the great Bobby Robson was still manager, and James is turning out to be a great signing for Newcastle.
Even though James just turned 22 last January, he has already started 100 games for Newcastle and made an additional 36 substitute appearances, and scored 11 goals, some of which were absolute corkers.
We’ll need a few more goals for James next year, but we feel confident that Kevin can use James in either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation next season.
He’s a model professional, smashing lad, and a terrific representative of the club.

I reckon he will be a key player for next season. With him, Taylor, N’Zogbia, Martins and Enrique thats 5 quality players at 23 or younger to build the team around. Do you think Smith, Cacapa and Duff will be at the club next season?

Milner is a fantastic player who with Zog stood head and shoulders above the rest of the team under Souness when he played. He has a fantastic workrate, good vision and the potential to play at the very highest level.
If he can add a few more goals to his CV and improve his crossing there wont be a better young english player in the league.

Sypro, that lad has been playing premiership football since he was 16!. He won’t peak till his late 20s. He’s improving every season. I stand by my statement.

Good quality player , hope he stays , has much better ability than shitty geremi. Geremi is hopeless another one of sam fat bastard allydice signings HOPELESS. Milner should be defo picked over geremi. Milner has pace skill and can get a cross in first time unlike geremi. Why do we get all the chelsea rejects Duff Geremi babayaro. Chelsea arnt daft. Newcastle are for buying them.

we need to keep Milner though his work rate is phenominal maybe he doesnt have the cutting edge yet but i do think he has it in him.

I live in the woods of NH in the summer and drink from an underground aquifer…now thats good water. Edinburgh city water (where I live the rest of the year) is pretty good.

I know i seem to always have a go at the Ronnie Gill and Alan Oliver, but i think over the years Alan has made his bed and now hes having to make do with it. Its just a shame as the locals and myself used to love the paper for its exlusives and breaking news.
What do we have now, Jimmy Milner has been on holiday…….really! I’d never have guessed!
If they have had an interview with Jimmy (doubt it, probably knicked it from another source) then why oh why did they not get his views on the recent transfer rumours regarding him. What he wants and is he looking forward to next season at Newcastle.
This article is a waste of everyones time and so is the local papers editor. New changes at Newcastle, new changes are needed at the Chronicle, its a bloody institution for many and its local footballer report cant get a decent story from the club!
