Newcastle Now Interested in Holland Defender

There is news today that Newcastle United are interested in Chelsea’s Khalid Boulahrouz.

Khalid Boulahrouz shown with his wife Sabia

The 26 year-old 6ft tall defender moved to England when he signed for Chelsea for £8.5M in 2006, but he never seemed to settle at Chelsea and played only 13 games for them.

Boulahrouz spent last season on loan in Spain with Sevilla.

He made the Dutch squad for Euro 2008, and played well during the tournament, and his proven quality and a a fairly low £5M transfer fee has seemingly attracted Kevin Keegan to the player.

As you may recall, Khalid Boulahrouz battled a personal tragedy ahead of Holland’s quarter-final game against Russia.  His wife, Sabia, was taken to hospital with pregnancy complications and tragically, the couple’s prematurely-born daughter later died.

It was a terrible thing for the couple to undergo, but Khlaid started the quarter-final game against Russia, and when he was withdrawn in the second half the crowd gave him loud sympathetic applause.

The Dutch team wore black armbands as a sign of respect and sympathy.

Khalid could well be a good buy for Newcastle, as he can play at right back or in central defense.

He was born in Maassluis, Holland, and was at Hamburg from 2004 until joining Chelsea two years later, in August, 2006.

Khalid played 52 times for the German club and he has played 23 times for Holland.

Comments welcome.

I think he deserves a second chance in the Premier League.

As you’ll recall Chelsea didn’t give him a regular run in the side and when they did it was in a variety of positions. That can be a nightmare for a player…just ask David Rozehnal.

Add that to the fact that Jose Mourinho never seemed to fancy him and he was really up against it there.

We should take a chance on the boy.

I think he’s excellent player, and Newcastle would benefit a lot from having him!

I will always remember the way he kept Ronaldinho quiet during chewsea-Barcelona game in the CL. And it was the time before Ronaldinho was “shite” too… I’m being ironic because I can’t believe how people are wanky when it comes to Ronaldinho. He had a poor season and suddenly he’s “a fading Brazilian” etc… Just makes me sick… Man, two years ago everyone was on the edge of their seats when Ronaldinho was on the pitch, and now everyone is trying to pile as much shite on him as possible… BBC and Sky…bah…

Anyway, back to topic – if Khalid is available – GET HIM ASAP!!!!

    Howay The Lads!

i think he would be a welcomed addition to our backline him and faye in the centre or he can even cover for beye or enrique, very versatile player, hope this one is true

also do u guys not think BARCELONA were just trying to unsettle ARSHAVIN.

think about it BARCELONA are SPANISH, RUSSIA were playing SPAIN, SPAIN have been these massive underachivers and seen that ARSHAVIN was the main threat to them getting into the FINAL, so by saying they were interested BARCELONA unsettled ARSHAVIN, pulling out of the running today and leaving him to sign for NEWCASTLE

A worthwhile player to go after. He seems solid and reliable too. Played well for Holland and has EPL experience. KK could get him on song for NUFC. Go get him now.

Looked a very confident figure for the Dutch even with his family issues. And I thought he was good on the ball as well. We really do lack a CB who can play and birng the ball out of defense.

Pepe of Real and Prtugal is a perfect example. Excellent player.

please NOOOO! i hate this guy. the worst defender i have seen since Titus, infact, this guy makes Bramble look a class act. SHOCKING at Chelsea, gave away crucial penalties in the CL, fell on his arse while defending against Robbie Keane(really landed on his arse).

please no, i would rather set myself on fire than have this guy seen in a Toon strip! what are we thinking…

The bloke has big balls to go out there and play against Russia, I am sure the majority of us would not have been able to do that, and what was going through his mind i just couldnt comprehend.

great Sympathy has to go to him and his wife and I am sure 99.9% of you do agree.

From a footballing perspective, yes, a decent player, but why on earth do we always feel compelled to go and pick off at Chelsea / manure second team??

Lets go out and buy them first, rather than let some other team do it for us and think ” its okay, if he cant play in the premiership, NUFC wil give us most of our money back”.

Its getting ridiculous now at NUFC, the silence is deafening, my kid brother has just renewed his 3 Season tickets in the 1892 Bar with their 12% hike, at a cost just shy of 3k!!

He wont do the deal for 3 years at same price as he is now very suspicious & sick that Ashley will not spend the cash, Oh he will get his season ticket sales because he has put KK in charge of the team and knows exactly what happened the last time KK was appointed. The Gullible Toon fans will think, ‘yess, KK Major signings, exciting football, wont just settle for mid table stability’ but if we dont spend big (As KK pointed out) then thats where we will be! MA will have sold 3 seasons of season tickets, Profit, Not spent any dosh, profit, and then flog the club to the biggest bidder arse end of next season, getting his moneyback with a nice little yes youve guessed it,profit, to include the 12% hike in season ticket prices,

Hmmmmmmm, my bro is good at making me paranoid or is he. He has a good business heed on him our kid!!!!!!!!!

from nufc.com!! tino your a legend mate!!

Tino pops out for a sub!

    From AP, Friday:

Bogota, Colombia — Retired football hero Faustino Asprilla has been placed under house arrest on charges related to illegal possession of weapons and criminal damage, his lawyer said Thursday.

Asprilla, know simply as Tino, has denied the charges. His lawyer, Carlos Sanchez, said Thursday he would appeal.

Known as much for his off-field problems as his career achievements, Asprilla’s latest scandal occurred on April 19, when he is accused of spraying a privately run security checkpoint with a machine gun near his farm in southwestern Colombia. The security post was struck by 29 bullets.

The owners of the guard house say that Asprilla reacted violently when a security guard refused to let Asprilla’s friends, three women and a bodyguard, pass. No one was hurt.

just an awful tragedy for the guy and his wife – shown some character to play for his country not long after – that’s the sort of character we need. had an unfair time at chelsea and still looks like a good solid defender to me who puts himself about. let’s try to get him ASAP

One thing we do not want to do is sign him out of sympathy. Having said that most of the feeling is that he would be a worthwhile buy on ability so he could be a goodun. Judging any players on their Euro form isn’t necessarily the best yardstick either.

No for me….He played well at Hamburg…

but since he joined Chelsea, his career has gone downwards…very poor at Chelsea…mistake prone at Seville, after a few poor performances, he was dropped and seldom used again

he is a proper right back who cant attack, but he is mistake prone as a centre back…dont see the point of spending 5M on a Beye backup

Boulahrouz also needs regular first team football now, we cant provide him tht

What happened on the S. American jaunt recently, there are dozens of players who would jump at the chance to play in the EPL and still be cheaper fee and wage wise. I can think of 3 or 4 from Boca alone. Never mind the rest of the Argy or Brasilian teams.

If we can buy him cheap, he’ll pay for his own suit and take a massive pay cut MA will sign him. KK will have no say in the matter. Time fot MA to go because he won’t use his own money. Have you all noticed how our expectations have changed in one year? A year ago everyone was saying how many trillions MA was going to spend. Now its a question of buying the “right” players at the right cost. We are all being brainwashed and conditioned to expect no quality players and no ambition. “We’ll build up gradually etc etc.” Maybe in 5 years we might have success etc etc. This club has not won the league for 80 years. not good enough fellow bloggers. MA should get out. Lets get a Russian or Arab in. MA is tight. KK should walk because he has been lied to.

While we can’t really judge someone playin’ in the euro’s…i’m not sure we can playin’ for the chavs, he’s hardly had a game, & defo not a decent run of games…Yet he still gets picked for holland?..Don’t know if i’ve seen him play enough to decide…

purely from a footballing perspective, this guys not a good signing! i saw him time and time again getting outclassed by strikers, our run, out witted and outplayed! he has a dirty streak in him and has terrible tackling judgement!
i never saw him play before he arrived at Chelsea so my opinion is rather narrow. but as the saying goes, you are only as good as your last game…

For sure he’s better than Taylor so he’s good enough for me to be in the team. And one more thing…..You don’t get a starting place in the Dutch team on Euro 2008 just like that.
His biggest mistake was for joining Chelsea in first place but i’m sure his confidence is back after the impresive games against Italy and France.
You give this guy a chance to start in at least 7-8 games he’ll even take Faye’s place.

He looked great for Holland in Euros, one of the best defenders in the tournament in fact and showed great courage after his loss.

    BUT NOOOO!!!!

Terrible at Chelsea, terrible at Sevilla by all accounts.

Please take a moment and cast your mind back to former tournament greats:

    Diouf and Baros!

Now ask yourself do you REALLY want this guy?

You may have a point matey.
Though not many people are signing anyone at the mo, I think we could be doing with someone at the club just coming out and saying either Yes, we are in negotiations with one or two, or No we havent made any moves as yet………. No harm done in that really is there??

Surprised KK hasnt popped his heed above the parapet yet??
Dont thin he is normally this quiet…….lets hope its for the good eh?

But, I , much like yourself, am becoming more and more frustrated with this regime!!!
