Newcastle fans have been following the news of possible Newcastle signings for over 2 months now, and the first signing has come as a shock, be it a pleasant shock.
Jonas Gutierrez – Newcastle first summer signing
Not once have we been linked with Jonas Gutierrez this summer, and yet the club managed to sign him without letting the cat out of the bag, not even one paw could we see. Â 😀
That’s good business by Newcastle, no doubt about it, but who exactly we are after now, or maybe a better way to put that – who we will sign this summer is now up in the air.
There’s a lot of silence surrounding the club but with 3 full time Newcastle Directors involved in the transfer business, and with Kevin at the center of it all, now he’s returned from holiday, and with owner Mike Ashley also involved, we sense there’s a lot of good hard work going on at Newcastle right now on the transfer front.
But it may be hard to know exactly who the next players through the door will be.
If we had to guess, we’d hope it was 20 year-old Eren Derdiyok, the 6’3″ Swiss striker who looked good in Euro 2008, and shows plenty of promise.
His club FC Basle want £6M and Newcastle are willing to offer £3M, so some negotiated price could easily be worked out there, maybe based on appearance money for the youngster.
We assume the Swede, Seb Larsson, who is also a right sided midfield player, will not be coming now, although, as we said earlier, you never know.
James Milner will be going nowhere either, unless a huge offer comes in for him, which Newcastle will then at least consider.
Maybe it’s another Argentinian in Pablo Aimar, who would be a good signing for the club.
But we have that distinct feeling, that our next signing is not too far away, and of course will come through the Newcastle United official site, as the news of the Gutierrez signing did this morning.
It seems that finally, things seem to be gathering speed in our transfer endeavors, and more good signings in the next few weeks will set us up for a successful season starting next month – hopefully.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3i dunno how i feel about the whole aimar speculation.
he would be a bad signing as such, but i’d preferr some young hungry player who could do the same job and only get better with time.
but to be honest, im not saying anything regarding transfers, rumours, or anything else regarding us this summer for that matter after today, haha.
howay the lads.

Comment #7haha, if ronaldo to real madrid was a smokescreen, who knows what next? Lampard to inter? Torres to Chelsea? Berbatov to Man Utd? We’ll have a dream team next season!

Comment #8I’m not taking this as a sign that Newcastle are only after players that we do not know about….I think were still after some of the names mentioned!
I think there will be at least 3 deals in the pipeline maybe involving a center half, a central midfielder and maybe Eren Derdiyok.
I would not be surprised if the central midfielder we bring in is a defensive one…We all know Keegan likes creativity down the wings (hence Gutierrez) and a replacement for both Barton and Butt is needed badly.
Maybe Inler?…Hes a good player…
I have a feeling we will find out soon though…

Comment #9Personally I’d like to see Torosidis to come in for about £4m as cover for both Beye and Enrique. I’d also love to see us grab Inler as DM from Udinese as I though he had a great Euro’s. Then we need either a CB to cover Taylor and Faye, or if we can get a real quality CB, we could replace either of our current ones (healthy competition). Then some pace and passing spark in midfield, aswell as Derdiyok and we’re in business 🙂
Great bit of business today, amazing how much one signings has changed the moods on these blogs. Keep up the good work all at NUFC, and the rest of us will KEEP THE FAITH
cheers

Comment #10cant say i remember him from the brazil v argi game the other week , then again i was more interested in the other argi’s on show !
now lets just hope he settles , strange he didnt end up at pompy on the south coast , does he know what our winters are like ? and our summers for that matter !!!
this also go’s againts keegans ‘proven premiership’ that he wanted to get and has obviously been driven by vettere , but after kev’s go-ahead id think .
id feel more comfortable about south american players comming in a bit younger really , the day an aguero roll’s out of our youth academy would be a fine day indeed .
or failing that , we should be the first to take them of their south american clubs , alot of players the big boys will be letting mature over their before making a move , we should try and get there a year early , the likes of manu know some of the players they will buy years before they actually make a move , just let them sit and mature and keep an eye on them incase anyone else bids .

Comment #12I think a lot of what Keegan has said is complete rubbish and dont trust a word the man utters!
example:
a)We will buy premiership proven player
b) Wont buy South Americans
c) Only need 2-3 quality players
d) No wholesale changes
I know its all mind games and i’m a sucker for them, keep them guessing Kev! 😉

Comment #14Maybe we should be checking to see where Fat Freddy goes next. He was going to buy Mallorca wasn’t he?
The thing is that the recruitment team obviously have more imagination than the hacks purveying the same old rumours every day. So we aren’t chasing Arshavin and Arda for extortionate prices and banging our heads on brick walls. We’re signing members of the Argentine national squad for about what they are worth. Come on Vetere, Wise and Jimenez. Lets kick the Kevolution into overdive!

Comment #15Smart move would be to bid for Danny Guiza, Jonas helped make him the top scorer in Spain last season, looked good when he played at the euros, definately be a quality edition.

Comment #24Great to see our first signing on only the 2nd day of the transfer window, he had a good write up after the Brazil game…
“Jonas Gutierrez: 7.0 / 10.0
Must have been surprised to get a starting role, but he was very impressive, and proved that he can play an important role for the side in the future.”
taken from Goal.com
If is starting for Argentina against Brazil in a world cup qualifer he MUST be good.
I can’t wait for the next signing Who will it be??

Comment #31Danny , ramos was after him actually , had one to many today so cbh to fink the link , but yeah we was wanted by a few good clubs .
the fuss is its been done on the cheap for a player who was a driving force in helling mallorca to 7th last season , young , comming into his prime and being sellected for argantina along side some real quality players , obv comming into his prime .
just hope he settles .
check amazon , you can get the balck and white version of the spidey mask , lets all get ourselfs on and show up on match day with them to shop our new character the true geordie support .
deserves a post of its own ed , and a link to the mask , like i saide before , one to many and it would take me forever to track it down .
