Newcastle After Swiss Star Gokhan Inler

It’s being reported in some Swiss newspapers today that Newcastle United have a definite interest in Gokhan Inler.

Gokhan Inler – 24 year old Swiss midfielder

Inler is a Swiss midfielder of Turkish origin, who currently plays for Udinese Calcio in the Italian Serie A league.

There is news coming from one of our readers in Switzerland, that Newcastle’s Football Director Denis Wise has already met with the Swiss star, and today there are a number of Swiss newspapers who are also reporting the story.

The fee is said to be around 10M euros – which is around £7.9M, and Newcastle are reported to be willing to pay the 24 year-old 3.5M euros per year, which is around £2.7M, (£53K/week).

That seems a big fee and big wages for a player not very well known.

His club will let him go because he is said to have a 10M euro release clause in his contract.

Gokhan, who was born in  Olten, Switzerland, is just under 6 ft tall, and is a member of the Swiss national team.

He made his debut for his country in September, 2006, in an international friendly against Venezuela in Basel.

If this story is true, it seems a lot of money to pay for a player who is young and unproven in the Premier league.

Playing career:

Years Club App Goals

2004-2005 FC Basel 0 0
2005–2006 FC Aarau 25 3
2006–2007 FC Zurich 52 3
2007– Udinese Calcio 32 3

2006 Switzerland 15 1

What do you think?

Hes an awesome dm, very steadying influence in the centre of the park and can spread play and break up attscks well.

Been endorsing him as a dm option for a while now.

Maybe we’ll get a break from all this bullsh!t “Newcastle after x”, “Are Newcastle after x?” “Newcastle linked with x” we’ve had to endure all summer here. This fella wasn’t on the radar. The hacks never picked up on it. We found out once the lad was signed. Fair play to the club for keeping it under wraps. And shame on Craig and the rest for the doom mongering going on since the end of the summer.

Excellent stuff! I haven’t been commenting for a while on this blog because i was sick of constant speculation from the media and no solid evidence on what players we are after. Just have to laugh at the press who are always second guessing our potential targets. They where completely off the mark with this one. Shows how well we have been covering our tracks since what happened with Modric. Don’t know much about this guy but im sure he is quality unless Kev wouldn’t have signed him.

I hope this doesn’t leave the door open for Milner to leave as im sure speculation will heighten with signing another right winger. I for one would prefer Duff to go.

Jonas is definetly a type of player we all want.He could play on 3 positions LW,CM,AM.
Excelent with the ball, great heading abilities, hold up player and excellen passer.
MAybe needs little polishing on his long range shots but i dont think that is in some way disadvantage of his abilities.
I’ve watched him several times last season, and i was really impressed with his crossing and work rate.I’ve never seen him injured which is also a great thing and has a stamina to run at least 80 min without showing any signs of tiredness at all.
    GREAT SIGNING

Glad you’re back up and running Ed, it’s been a while since that happened.

Don’t know much about this lad, but I put a lot of faith in players Keegan chooses. He knows exactly what he wants and who can give it to him. As far as I’m concerned all of our signings are going to be sound this season.

On a slightly hypocritical note, has anybody seen the article saying Bolton don’t want Barton?

    How dare they?

We took Fat Sham off their hands. Taking the Jailbird is the least they could do in return!!!
