Manchester United youngster Jonny Evans is interesting Newcastle United, even though the player has had two successful loan spells at North East rivals Sunderland.

Jonny Evans - with girlfriend Kate Wathall - is she a Newcastle fan?
The rumors circulating on Jonny (yes even more rumors and gossip), is that he would be keen to join Newcastle United, since his girlfriend Kate Wathall is currently studying at Newcastle University.
His two loan spells at Sunderland were welcomed by the youngster, since he could be close to Kate, and it’s said that Jonny would prefer to join Newcastle over Sunderland, if given the choice.
How true this is we don’t know, but hopefully the powers that be at Newcastle should meet with Kate, and try to convince her to convince Jonny to join the Magpies - of course. Â Â
As most people know, woman can be very influential with men, and footballers are no exception.
As we reported recently, Alex Ferguson will not let Jonny go anywhere until the Red Devils have more cover at central defense, but it appears like Jonny may be willing to head to Newcastle United for first team football.
That could be either permanent, or a loan move for next season. He’s rated around £7M.
And this could all be good news for us, because what we’ve seen of Jonny Evans, he looks a great young player in the making.
Comments welcome.

He’s obviously an intelagent lad!! he would be a good signing!!
2 James // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:45
He’s a right back isn’t he?? So he won’t get much first team footie with Beye in the team.
Plus he was under investigation by the police at Christmas for a rape at the Man Utd Christmas party.
Don’t we have enough police investigations with Barton without buying another player who could land us in trouble?
3 Punk Skunk // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:50
Surely he’s just taking the rap for rooney & ronaldo…Allegedly!..
4 Davies // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:51
Agreed James. If we’re going for right back cover, surely we need to clarify whether or not there was any wrong doing with this player.
I’ve already been very clear on how I feel about JB, I’d be a hypocrite if I said we should sign this lad without knowing what baggage might be coming with him.
If he’s cleared, all well and good, but I don’t think he’s going to want to be a bench warmer for Beye.
5 Chris A // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:52
Firstly he is centre back, played there all his career.
Secondly he was cleared of that incident that apparently took place at the Man United Christmas party.
I have heard off a lot of Sunderland fans that he is a very solid centre back.
Would be a good signing although 7 million sounds a bit steep.

7 Mil? Thats alot, though i like him…
7 Gunnar/Iceland // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:54
she’s hot.
I will be going to Newcastle university Next year! HELLO YEARTICKET!
I would like to see this lad join but the 7 M mentioned seems way to high.
8 Danish_Magpie // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:54
He is a CB, a bit of a trouble-maker in my book, and certainly not worth 7m (!!). Stay clear.
9 chris // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:54
That was all dropped but probably a worry if he is getting himself up to no good at such an early stage of his career. we have enough idiots at the club at the moment.
If we are after the best young players we could do worse than Ivan Rakitić, thought he was outstanding during euro 2008. He is only 20 but looks fantastic on the ball.
10 Danish_Magpie // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:56
By the way, I just read that Bayern have offered Podolski to Cologne for 11m pounds because they prefer not to sell him to a rival club.
I don’t think we would be perceived as a rival club and I think we should make an offer of 10m and see what happens.

Hey all,
SSN says that everton are are close to signing Pablo Aimar, i was almost certain he would be our’s! Is this another one from under our nose’s?

If he’s the height of our ambition this next few weeks, god help us!!!!!
13 geordiegraham // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:57
am not sure on this one like
1)police investigation - enough with JB
2)He wont want to bench warm
3) £7mil? bit much 4 him
14 Ericles // Jul 2, 2008 at 10:57
I thought he was a northern Ireland central defender? Seven million seems a lot for a young player already carrying baggage? The price could be Fergie Talk though. Would not be in the least suprised if he was covering for the Ron and Roon goon show. I will rely on KK on this one.
15 Kash2 // Jul 2, 2008 at 11:02
He was equitted of all charges over the rape. The girls were kiss and tell girls, trying to corner Rooney, Ronaldo etc etc for a out of court payout. It happens alot, just look at the England Rugby players in New Zealand!
There’s a difference between him and JB, JB got charged and banged up. Evans was equitted when charges were dropped. Massive difference.
He looked decent for Sunderland, but then we’ll have another young CB. We need an experienced and commanding CB for Taylor and other youngsters to learn from. Faye can be great, but not what we need and Cacapa had problems at times, but really did look impressive when he performed to his up most ability. Maybe Cacapa will be given the nod as the defensive lynch pin, I don’t know.
Either way, if we can get JE for £4-£5m then it could be a decent buy!

“MANCHESTER United player Jonny Evans will not face charges over an alleged rape at the team’s Christmas party.
Police said yesterday the decision was taken after they presented evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Evans, now 20, was arrested after a woman made an allegation of rape at the team’s Christmas party at the Great John Street hotel in Manchester.
Police were called to the hotel at 4.15am on December 18 last year after receiving calls that a 26-year-old woman had been raped.
Defender Evans, who has won nine caps for Northern Ireland, was arrested later that evening and then released on police bail.
The CPS said there was “insufficient evidence” to charge Evans, who was sent out on loan to Sunderland in January.
Carol Jackson, head of the rape and family abuse team at City of Manchester CPS, said: “We have decided that there is not enough evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction.”
A police spokeswoman said no charges would be brought against the alleged victim.”

Centre half with loads of potential….7 million is a tad high but imagine Evans and Taylor in a couple of years time…..would be a good signing imo…..young, hungry to prove himself with his best years to come…
ps….he was not found guily of any wrong doing regarding the allegations earlier in the year….where has the crack about innocent until proven guilty gone????….

we have signed Jonas from Mallorca…good signing
28 broon ale // Jul 2, 2008 at 11:09
my sunderland supporting buddys always raved about him.
it is true his girlfriend goes to newcastle uni. she is originally from sheffield.
I doubt very much if anyone would be surprised if he would prefer a move to newcastle as opposed to sunderland.
we are still able to boast the likes of Michael owen, Oba Martins, Mark Viduka and Habib Beye, As opposed to Kenwye Jones, Paul Mcshane and Danny Higginbottom.

from the chronicle
2 2008 Evening Chronicle
NEWCASTLE UNITED have swooped to sign Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez from Spanish side Real Mallorca.
ChronicleLive can confirm the arrival of Gutierrez, with the La Liga ace becoming Kevin Keegan’s first major signing since he thrilled the fans by arriving back on Tyneside.
The 24-year-old is renowned for pulling on a Spiderman mask after scoring goals in Spain and he arrives in the Premier League as a skilful right winger.
The club have not disclosed the fee for the star, but Manchester City were ready to splash out £7m for the South American during Sven Goran Eriksson’s reign at Eastlands.
Spurs and Portsmouth were also linked with bids earlier this year.
Gutierrez has signed a five-year deal and will bolster Kevin Keegan’s current squad which has been depleted by the departures of several players.
The fans will hope that Gutierrez brings some flair to a side which struggled badly last season, and provide the bullets for Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Oba Martins and Andy Carroll.

Ed, I can’t get into your article about Inler. There appears to be some CPU usage issue.
48 gecko // Jul 2, 2008 at 11:38
seen gutierrez play. he’ll be a good signing. he’s skilful and creative and in my opinion better than milner. but i think we should still keep milner- i hope this doesn’t spell the end for him.
and got to say well done to kev and wise for wrapping this one up without attracting too much attention and hopefully theres more surprises to come.
c’mon the toon
49 windsrave // Jul 2, 2008 at 11:38
this mean Milner is leaving?
or we will keep them both
is he a right winger or left?
50 Toony // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:09
I have just been up to the NUFC box office and was told there would be 2 or 3 major announcements this week!
I arrive home to find that we had signed Gutierrez!
I hope the other announcements are true
51 Seymour Butts // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:48
about evans - maybe we could sign him then send him back on loan to the unwashed - then bring him back if he turns out any good
52 reillers // Jul 2, 2008 at 17:06
I doubt it sincerely like, the wee lad loved it at Sunderland. I don’t see him picking us over them at all.
53 Davie J // Jul 2, 2008 at 22:21
Evans’ missus is from Sheffield and graduates this summer, so I really doubt her situation would have any influence on a possible move.
He is a good young player and one I would want, but if he leaves Man U I can only see him signing for the Mackems.
54 Sav // Jul 3, 2008 at 1:49
Evans would be great. He’s been terrific playing for N.I.
55 redalert // Jul 3, 2008 at 9:41
you lot are seriously deluded, not a hope in hell will jonny evans ever be join you’s, the fee would be more around 5mil, purely for the fact of the effort man utd have put in since he was a young lad, he’s only 19 and the potential this lad has is amazin, commanding at the back, can read the game brilliantly already, gonna be some player, hopefully it’ll be with us and not you’s
56 Dunc // Jul 3, 2008 at 21:17
redalert,
Piss off back to your flat pack stadium with your jumped up, drive laying, pikey manager.
The only reason he’s not worth 7 million is because he’s played for you.
Now jump back in your gravy and put the lid back on!!!!!!
