Newcastle Sign Star Agentinian

July 2nd, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 129 Comments

Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez has become Newcastle United’s first signing of the summer.

jonas-gutierrez.jpg

Jonas Gutierrez - signed for Newcastle today

The right-sided 6′0″ winger joins Newcastle United from Spanish side RCD Mallorca on a five-year deal, but the fee has not been disclosed.

Gutierrez has the nickname “Spiderman” because he wears the superhero’s webbed mask during his goal celebrations. We’ll look forward to seeing that!

Jonas’ move to Newcastle comes as a perfect birthday present for the winger, since he turns 25 years old on Saturday.

Jonas said:

“I cannot tell you how excited I am to be joining Newcastle United.

“The Premier League is a great place to play and I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and prove myself to the Newcastle United fans.”

Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan added:

“Jonas is a wonderful signing for us.”“I know a lot of other clubs have been interested in him. He’ll be a terrific addition to the squad.”

“He’s an exciting player and I’m sure our fans will enjoy watching him.”

Gutierrez signed for Real Mallorca in 2005 from Velez Sarsfield – where he won the title – and after making 97 total appearances for the Argentine side he signed for the Balearic Islands outfit, where he made 95 appearances, scoring five goals.

He won his first cap against France in February 2007. Most recently, he played for his country on June 18th in a 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw against Brazil.

As a result, Jonas will now have a break before linking up with his new colleagues for pre-season training later this month.

Last summer Portsmouth were interested in signing the player.

This is exactly what we wanted Newcastle to do, since there hasn’t even been a whimper about signing Jonas till the news broke on Newcastle’s official web site.

We knew something was happening because our web site suddenly crashed before we even saw the news – it was so overloaded. We are looking at that already to fix it, but it looks like we’ll need to become SQL experts to fix it all..

Newcastle fans will be able to see Jonas in action in the pre-season friendlies against PSV Eindhoven (August 6) and Valencia (August 9) at St. James’ Park.

So the first we heard from Kevin, was after 8 days back from his holiday in America, and it was to announce his first signing, we love it, just love it.

This is completely official since it’s been posted on our official Newcastle United site.

We think this is a very good first signing.

Comments welcome.

    Good news at last!!

Fantastic and I hadn’t heard anything about this anywhere previous to signing - hopefully the first of many that the toon have kept cards close to chest

  • 6 Neilos // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:05

All these names we have been linked with and now our first signing is not one of them names linked with us…..

  • 7 Nick Dryden // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

Absolutely fantastic. I was just thinking today we should go Argentinian with Jimenez’s contacts and many Spanish speaking S.Americans playing in Spain.
Let’s follow up with Aimar, Collocini, Saviola et al.

  • 8 acurley // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

I Don’t think anyone saw this one coming.
Just goes to show maybe the Mole really did follow Glen Roeder to Norwich.
Shows that the recruitment team realy are doing some work behind the scenes.
Lets see what other pleasant surprises they have in store for us this summer :-P

A Bit of a worry on the Milner front though, is he competition or a replacement?

  • 9 John // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

boys does anyone know how good this guy is? Really interested to see how he does..

If he’s good enough for Argentina he’s good enough for us :)

  • 10 ObaFan2 // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

Good signing i think with both Pompey and Man Citeh tnterested in him recently.

Great that the press had NO IDEA!

  • 11 Callum // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

Wow - They kept that quiet! Hopefully theres more like that :)

  • 12 ToonKing // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

finally a proper right winger, it was our weakest position for ages.

  • 13 stantos // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:06

isn’t it great, our first signing and no one saw it coming. that for me is an excellant sign.

is he any good though, not seen much of him but I guess he’s gotta be half tidy playing for argies ?

  • 14 Jack Franklin // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:08

YAY! Hopefully the first of many. Great signing IMO.

  • 15 Macas // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:08

Apparently we are now after Mr Fantastic as our new goalkeeper

  • 16 Hadji // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:09

Jonas is definetly a type of player we all want.He could play on 3 positions LW,CM,AM.
Excelent with the ball, great heading abilities, hold up player and excellen passer.
MAybe needs little polishing on his long range shots but i dont think that is in some way disadvantage of his abilities.
I’ve watched him several times last season, and i was really impressed with his crossing and work rate.I’ve never seen him injured which is also a great thing and has a stamina to run at least 80 min without showing any signs of tiredness at all.
    GREAT SIGNING

  • 17 Chennai Toon // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:10

after a long time….we have signed a player………….hope there are some more surprise signings………………..

  • 18 Leo // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:10

whats his specs? how tall is he etc?

loving that picture, its like he is holding his hands up apologeticly as if to say i am sorry but that is my ball i am taking it away from you.

may many more signings roll today shame im out being a white van driver woo hoo. anyone want any stuff shifted only got the van for one day lol

cant wait to do all the wolf wistling and swearing at people, shame i wont see the news of the other 6 signings today lol i wish

  • 19 ObaFan2 // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:10

No SWP then? would rather have Spiderman an Argentinian international tbh…… good news at last for the Toon.

  • 20 Gunnar/Iceland // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:10

Exciting signing! Cant wait to see him play.

  • 21 Steve // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:10

This is evidence that our transfer business is now done behind closed doors… Brilliant…

  • 22 Seymour Butts // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:11

    woohoo!!!

  • 23 Toon_Ksk // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:11

    Left winger or right winger?

  • 24 Leo // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:12

milner to stay still i would put my xbox and fifa 07 on it

  • 25 Vitorbarbosa // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:12

Never see him plays, but I am extremely excited as we finally land one, which is not even mentioned by the press.

So, we all know that the press talk craps… they know nothing what we are doing.

I think more to come as our squad still short of players.

  • 26 geordiegraham // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:12

first of many! lets beat everton to aimar now

  • 27 Rob Kirton // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:38

  • 29 Ericles // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:41

KK hid this one under his hat. A right one up the Sun and Mirror. Lovely, because Portsmouth made enquiries too. Ha, ha.

  • 30 Midjew // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:42

    Toon_Ksk -

    He is a Right Winger.

He is SOOOO good cant believe it, this came out of no where.

    WELL DONE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 31 scottish mag // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:42

ed wot is up with the site today, sometimes its working and then its saying something about ur cpu quota running out or something

by any chance are aimar and jonas really close friends

maybe we can get arango from mallorca now cos he is class too

  • 32 ObaforPM // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:46

Right winger but has played on the left i think (?) Didnt see this one coming at all but good signing, him and beye on the right makes a quick attack down that side :)

  • 33 IanG // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:47

Great news. And it looks like the management at NUFC have managed to completely stop any leaks to the press. Bodes well for the future and I am sure there will be many more to come.

  • 34 oga // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:48

Big. Thats why we shouldn’t trust the media. We’ve been linked with every player, except for the actual one we sign.

I wonder how much we signed him for?

As I’ve said before, Hispanic revolution all the way. Coloccini Cuellar and Aimar.

  • 35 wilko // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:48

this is great and exciting news - one that KK will nurture straight away into the NUFC world - Ilike what he’s saying - he likes the club and the fans already - heavy on the brownie points eh !!

  • 36 wilko // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:50

I wonder if this is why all the speculation about JM came about

  • 37 Geordie Nick // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:51

wonder how much we paid for him?? just read tht pompey and man city were considering 10m bid for him, if weve paid a sum like tht then at least tht gives me hope tht ashley is willing to giv kk sum decent money to spend as a right winger wasnt exactly priority so if hes willing to spend tht on a right winger then he must be willing to spend 12m plus on an AM and possibly up 2 10m on a top CB, fingers crossed well find out soon enough

  • 38 Nobby's Dad // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:52

Oh deep Joy!! That’s one up the jacksy of the moaners who seem to have a downer on MA / Wise and the recruitment staff. The idiots who seem to thnk ‘ We’re not signing anyone …there’s nothing in the papers, MA is tight ….GIVE IT A REST and get behind this great club!!!

    TOON FOREVER …COMEON!!!!!!!

  • 39 ObaFan2 // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:52

    £5-7 million apparantly.

  • 40 Oba's Mum // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:53

I have seen him play 5 times and he was outstanding, am shocked how we got him to be honest, can’t imagine what the fee was, has easily got to be over 10m.

  • 41 HeronMag // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:53

A few of us have been saying this for months - Most of KK’s signing will be surprises.

    So it begins… :)

  • 42 Karl // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:54

Keep Milner, and use him on the inside of Gutierrez.
This gives me a deja vu:
    OOH, AHH, GIN…eh GUTIERREZ!!!

    Is it just me? :)

    Howay…

  • 43 paul p // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:56

i have never heard of this guy. is he any good, but shows that like a said last month keegan will already know who he was buying and his business was already done. could be just that. lets hope there are plenty more to follow. must be a decent player for him to play for the argies

  • 44 SwedeEric // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:56

If you are even considered to playa competetive game against brazil for argentina, then you must be a great player!

Should we stop care about what the media says now?….

And the stats that he has only scored 5 times in almost 100 games for Mallorca doesn´t realy bother me… I think NZogbia, Butt and so on is great players, and not because of there goalscoring stats, but for what they do on the pitch…

  • 45 Chris // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:56

From what I hear he’s got a lot of plus’s. He can play down the right or left wing and also in the middle. His workrate is impressive. He isn’t injury prone. He’s determined to be a regular in the Argentine squad for the 2110 World Cup. :)
The only negative is his goal scoring record, but if he’s supplying then he doesn’t need to be scoring.
He was a favourite with the Real Mallorca fans so let’s hope he can be here.
Well done to the staff of SJP who kept this under wraps. A total surprise I must admit.

  • 46 Ericles // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:56

Hey KK. Any more like this hidden down that coalmine you obviously used? He is a right winger, so what about Milner now?

  • 47 chuck // Jul 2, 2008 at 12:56

Havent seen him play since he was at Sarcefield
    where he was very promising.
Damn! KK. Certainly kept this one below the radar!
Fans must be delirious to see the ball has started rolling in regards to bringing in some talent and a decent start, 25 yr. old Argentino International
    yet!
Hope the next signings are this good.

  • 48 9 Shearer // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:04

Did you here that Cuellar is not tempted with the pay rise we are giving him He is being paid 15kpounds/week but i know he will come Rangers need that money. The agent will persuade him.

  • 49 Ross G // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:07

BOYS HE IS A GOOD PLAYER YES, BUT HE ACTUALLY PLAYS MORE ON THE LEFT SIDE EVEN THOUGH RIGHT FOOTED

  • 50 Pete // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:08

  • 51 9 Shearer // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:10

the team that wil play Man utd on opening day.

    ……………………….Given…………………………….
    Beye………Collicini…….Cuellar………….Shorey
    Jonas…….Aimar………….Butt…………….Milner
    …………….Owen(C)…………Martins………………..

  • 52 Gooderz // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:10

    Could Spiderman become Venom?

No doubt the black mask would look better. Shame we didn’t sign him when the movie came out.

By the way, is anyone watching SSN? How lazy are they? Keegan’s photo is from his Man City days.

  • 53 James // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:11

We have been linked with 242 players in close season, and our first signing wasn’t one of them….quality.

Goes to show that our recruit team have been misleading the media so they can secure their “real” targets.

Spiderman is better than what we have in that position. He can cross the ball (Milner can’t), and he can run (Geremi can’t).

So an improvement to our team and if KK gets the best out of him, he’ll be a quality KK winger for years to come.

And remember that Guiza guy that has scored loads of goals for Mallorca this year, scored them due to Spiderman’s crosses and through balls.

  • 54 Ian // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:12

just pleased to see a signing, he is supposed to score goals and plays the Zog position, if Zog stays maybe Keegan will move one of them more central or will he leave two for the same position??

He plays left not the right hand side as far as I have seen.

Just relieved to see a signing.

We need a quality central midfield payer now!!

Vetere seems to have done his job, I wonder if they will all be his players, if they are we are unlikely to know many of them and are unlikely to hear whispers before signings.

  • 55 valle // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:13

Apperently he has signed on a WEBSTER… Btw isnt this our first argentine international?

  • 56 MIKE HOOPERS POOPER SCOOPER // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:14

He could be used as bait for Aimar and Cuellar??

  • 57 TooooooN // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:15

just nice…good news. hopefully more to come

  • 58 broon ale // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:25

no valle. christian basseddas was an argentine international.

  • 59 GM // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:27

I read that as well Valle, basically as he is over 27 or something n he has been with his current club for a period of time he can buy out his contract, so we might have got him for not a lot

  • 60 wilko // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:28

shearer, that looks like a good side you’ve got together I like that alot - hope you’re spot on with that selection prediction

  • 61 arnie-mag // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:28

    Line up for next season
    Given
    Telemide Terry-diidae Ctenidae Filistatidae
    Arachnida Aranae Pholcidae Salticidae
    Kimara-Gumo Eresidae

A few new Africans and the wandering Brazilian would be a bit of a worry but otherwise a resoursful and fiesty line up

  • 62 HalftimeBovril // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:29

    @ valle

basseddas & cordone were both argentian, not sure if they ever played for the national team though.

Had a feeling it would be a good day today after i saw 4 magpies fly past my office window. By my reckoning that could mean another 3 players signed today ;-)

  • 63 valle // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:30

Broon Ale… Oh yah, forgot about him, we also had Cordone but he never got any caps as far as i know.

  • 64 Amorn // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:32

    Couple of points
    1. Great signing of course
    2. The fact that press is unaware of this pursue readily help reduce competition with others club. This does also reduce those type of players who use our club as a mean to get to “Top 4″.
    3. Follow up to 2, this could help build morale of team emphasizing that we sign only those who wanted to be here not just money.
    4. Follow up to 3, save few bucks on those has been.

  • 65 broon ale // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:35

    cracking news.

roll on the rest! DFmid and an Attacking mid please.

  • 67 valle // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:36

GM… As far as i know he is only just turning 25, but since he has been at Mallorca for 3 years he can buy himself out… Had he been 28 or more, it would only have taken 2 years to qualify for a webster.

  • 68 Nick Dryden // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:38

    d’allesandro’s another

  • 69 Luke // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:38

  • 71 valle // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:39

HalftimeBovril… Bassedas actually played allot of international matches, over 30 as far as i remember. But i dont think Cordone ever got to the selection…

  • 72 Ian // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:40

the only reservation I have with my very limited viewings of this player is he seemed a little on the weak/fragile side for the premiership, however he is skillful and has scored in the past, he runs past players which is what we want to see.

I have only seen him on the left, others are saying he will replace Milner does he play on the right too??

  • 73 GM // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:40

    Thanks for the clarification :-)

  • 74 Ben_BKK // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:41

  • 75 geordiekk // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:42

i wonder if this transfer has been done for a while we could have spoken to them when we aggreed to play in that tournament
great signing cant wait to see him play

  • 76 TS // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:42

Never seen the boy play, but I’ve just looked up his stats for last season. Ok, so he didn’t score, but he did make five assists, and apparently won 102 free kicks from 24 starts. Must be pretty damn tricky. Good news at last!

  • 77 Davies // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:43

I believe toooooooon fan saw him in his restaurant talking to keegan, but he couldn’t post because the site was down.

    Would you believe it?

  • 78 broon ale // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:43

there is very little on youtube to go off.

it is a bit strange Luke that fat freddy is taking over mallorca and we suddently end up with a mallorca player

  • 79 DanToon // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:44

    .Aimar……Butt……Gutierrez .

    …………….Owen…………………

    …….Derdyok…..Martins…….

Mabye Larsson insted of Aimar and maybe more of a target man upfront insted of Derdyok, still a good team either way. What you think?

  • 80 Davies // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:44

Too true Broon Ale. Maybe we could get Guiza as well…

  • 81 Hadrian // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:45

  • 83 geordiekk // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:46

Guiza next i hope would be good replacement for viduka

  • 84 Obafan // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:47

Fantastic news. I hope he can be used to get Aimar aswell. Like most of you said here, we’ve been linked with 250 players and our first signing is a player who was never mentionned in the same sentence as NUFC; GREAT WORK!!!!

Tho’ I’ve never really seen him play, he looks very promising; he is an Argentine international so he must be very good.

Well done board and KK. I hope more will follow, but I never doubted the fact that Ashley wants to do good things with our beloved club!!!

  • 85 Hadrian // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:49

this guys just started comming nto his prime by the sounds of things aswell, picked up his first cap last year .

watched that last brazil v argi match , cant say i remember him , then again the match was poor .

  • 86 James // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:49

  • 87 Joe Toon // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:50

does anyone have a decent video/link?

From what i’ve heard he is good, and adding some much needed height into the midfield!!!

Is he meant to be pacey?

This one was right out of the woodwork!

  • 88 Punk Skunk // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:50

A Newcastle ‘insider’ was reported as saying : “The press ain’t got a Danny Le Rue…Ha!”..
    …Ho’waaaaaaaaaaaaay!..

  • 89 k-man // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:50

I have never heard of this player before, and even though he is on the national team of Argentina, he has only played 2 matches to date. Also 7 goals in abouth 200 matches is not very good for a winger (5 goals for Mallorca in 100 matches).. I really hope this guy is good, but I must say his stats are not.

  • 90 Mike Strutter // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:50

great signing exactly waht we need a bit of creativity in midfield, should not stop there we should go and get Aimar aswell!!!!

  • 91 Punk Skunk // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:52

Some players make goals for others!..

  • 92 toptoon // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:53

hate to be a pesamist, because i hate the people who come on here and are all doom and gloom,
Im pleased we have finally signed someone, i also think its great that no-one guessed it! it shows that ashley and KK are going about there business in the right way, however, our signings from real mallorca have not been fantastic in the past, e.g. marcelino. also i can only think of one argentinean - tevez who has actually been succesful in the premiership, but he is pure quallity. the likes of Veron, crespo, bassedas, were all Argentinian internationals but never grassped the premier leauge fully.
anyway, lets just hope he’s another Ginola!!!

  • 93 Ben_BKK // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:53

Yeah I’d replace Butt with someone, Inler sounds like a good player, and he’s young as well. Get him in along with Seb Larsson, and that’s a whole new midfield, though of course we still have Milner and N’Zogbia.

  • 94 andy // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:54

its great to know that wise is actually doing something! good signing especially at the price we are paying. But if he doesn’t play well straight away don’t get on his back-remember luque? lets hope this is quickly followed by inler and aimar to shore up that midfield. Any news on aimar btw?

next thing to do for keegan-SORT OUT THAT BLOODY DEFENCE!

k-man… Then lets wait to judge him till we have seen him play ourselves shall we? :)

  • 96 broon ale // Jul 2, 2008 at 13:57

toptoon. cheers for pissing on everyones bonfire.

I dont buy into the whole, “he’s from argentina and no other argentine players except tevez have been a success”

you could argue that prior to ronaldo all portuguise players were flops. Postiga, dominguez, ferrirra and mendes!

  • 97 michael // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:01

Havent seen him play hopefully the lad has what it takes, south american aswell hope he can be are new solano, drop geremi 4 him, milner , butt jonas, aimar what a midfield that would be. Barton can be sacked flog duff , emre , cacapa , ameobi , viduka , faye get rid of the rotting wood keegan coz these players arnt good enough. …….

  • 98 Seymour Butts // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:13

he is actually quite physical watched brazil v argentina on youtube and he stood out a mile big lad

  • 99 51times // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:17

broon ale - What about Carvalho? I get the point you’re making, though.

  • 100 Ben K // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:29

Here is a video of Gutierrez playing for Argentina against the Socceroos (no Viduka, unfortunately). At the 1′ mark he flies in on the left and plays a perfect ball into the box with his first touch that only had to be tapped into goal. Too bad it went begging. At 7:22 he plays a simple ball as part of a great move that I can only hope Newcastle will emulate next season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vd-HLh2h0I

Apparently he likes playing on the left and can cross with both feet. People call Milner a two-footed player, but he can’t cross with either foot. More than replacing Milner, I hope this signing will prevent Duff from seeing the pitch next year, and hopefully push Zog inside.

One last point: Jonas used the Webster ruling to force Mallorca’s hand and win a transfer to the Premiership. I get the feeling they did NOT want him to leave, and his desire to prove himself in the Premier league was the only reason Keegan was able to pick up such a talented player.

    @51times -

  • 102 Ian // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:31

Let us hope there is more as this one signing wont do the trick.

  • 103 Geordie Nick // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:33

mascherano is class, zarate was a succes in his short time here, and crespo had a very good goals to games ratio whilst playin here, its only newcastle who seem to buy sh*t argentinians, but we also buy sh*t spanish players, and french, and just about every other nationality, doest tht tell you something, its more about us not gettin the right players from those countries, not tht players frm ther are no good in our league

  • 104 YongMalaysia // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:42

nerver heard about his news then suddenly pop out we sign it.

go go go, sign more good players…

Here’s a chant for next season

    Spiderman Spiderman
    goes down the right wing
makes a pass gets it back
    scores a goal and celebrates
(sung to the spiderman theme song)

  • 107 Geordie Nick // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:53

sumhow i dont think tht chant will be sung at sjp next season aggi

  • 108 ende // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:53

andy - What do you mean mate? Our defense is probably the last area we need to touch (Aside from gk). Beye and Enrique are quality on the ends but of course could use some cover.. Tozer is already looking promising. We have a number of decent CBs. The only thing we really need is a solid, experienced CB. Let’s focus our energies on midfield, and possibly another striker (viduka type) if we can.

  • 109 Yahya Ahmad // Jul 2, 2008 at 15:59

I would just love him to score many goals and celebrate with his spiderman mask!

  • 110 Punk Skunk // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:02

    Yea ende,
    midfield, midfield, midfield!..

…& whoever said get shot of Faye…Der!..

  • 111 xfer // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:03

From the last youtube, he gallops down the flank, really long legs he has.

  • 112 Yahya Ahmad // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:06

    TOON 1 - 0 THE PRESS

  • 114 Deaco // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:31

How does everyone seem to think this is a great signing? Has anyone watched him play a full game? Any signing is good right now, but what do we know about this guy other than he likes Spiderman?

  • 115 Yahya Ahmad // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:38

    Come on you Magpies!!!

  • 116 Gallowgate31 // Jul 2, 2008 at 16:49

    Totally out of the blue….

Some good points and some not so good points about this guy, but the most important is that he is he over the moon to be here and KK see’s him fitting in to his ‘ masterplan’.

We have just made the first move, and I for one am happy that the ball is rolling……

and on KK’s admission there will be at least 3 - 4 more to come.

God knows who they are gonna turn out to be but its time to strap in once more lads !!

  • 117 WIGAZ // Jul 2, 2008 at 17:28

Good shout Davies! we should tell him to convince guiza to join kevelution too!! TOON!!!!!!!! We’ll know if we’re gettin aimar in if Jonas isn’t given no8 shirt! it’s just a theory, but i think we’re holding that no8 shirt for a mid dynamo that can make things happen! eg: Aimar, Arshavin (no chance) or VDV!!!! i think it’s mint the press have egg on their face! HA HA!!!! suck on that you southern shandy drinkin fairys!!!!!

  • 118 shearer 4 pm // Jul 2, 2008 at 17:48

yeh between him and martins we’ll have the ultimate celebrations, 2 players on the motd credits this year

  • 119 Taiwantoon // Jul 2, 2008 at 17:56

Don’t know nothing about him, but I am over the moon to see that we have finally took off for a, hopefully, exciting ride.

  • 120 JP...from The Rock of Gibraltar // Jul 2, 2008 at 18:33

I have never heard a word about this player. Good business from our board but how can almost everyone say he is a REALLY good signing if most haven’t seen him play?? On you-tube there is hardly anything about him. I sometimes watch La Liga and I TBH have never heard of the guy. Then again he does play for Argentina, is still young, tall and looks strong and also looks like he has hunger for the game and to prove himself. PROBABLY a great signing and one I am looking forward to seeing in action, but then again how can most of you guys here say he is brilliant??

  • 121 Punk Skunk // Jul 2, 2008 at 18:40

He plays for argentina man, that’s gotta go some way to allaying your fears!?!..
…They don’t normally pick donkeys, do they?..

  • 122 euanpolo // Jul 2, 2008 at 18:52

Finally! A signing. Good to see the transfer wheels in motion. Jonas Gutierrez is very good in Football Manager 2008, I signed him for Palermo.

  • 123 Keegan // Jul 2, 2008 at 19:02

Guiza was top scorer in spain last season and this guy supplied the ammunition.

  • 124 simon winham // Jul 2, 2008 at 19:28

    great signing well done KK

  • 125 i Toon // Jul 2, 2008 at 19:34

Yessssssss a new face sweet and no one saw it coming

  • 126 Gallowgate31 // Jul 2, 2008 at 20:06

His stats were crap when I read them except for 102 free kicks gained…..but by my reckoning thats 1.2 goals for geremi !!!!!!

Nah all jokes aside, from what I have read on this guy he is a creative troublemaker, who is a hard worker, just what we need.

Plus if KK can coax out his goal instincts we could all be laughing! we might well see a different attack with this fella. get the Zog going plus an AM ……. who knows ! MO first 20 goal season,

    OM 20 plus!!!!

    MV 6 full starts !!!

Only joking now but we are heading in the right direction, just not the names we and everyone else thought, after 3-4 more of KK’S signings we can take 4th place by storm.

    ( with any luck )

  • 127 Gallowgate31 // Jul 2, 2008 at 20:14

I can see the headlines now,

KK pulled of a masterstroke and signed him for 500K……. once again proving he is still the geordie messiah !!!!!!!!

The Sunday Sun can have that one for free….

  • 128 AussieToon // Jul 3, 2008 at 6:56

    brilliant sgning hopefully
    1 DM - inler perhaps
    1 AM - Aimar
    1 LB - Shorey
    1CB - collocini/cuellar
    1 CF- derdiyok

  • 129 cg // Jul 3, 2008 at 8:42
