Has Pablo Aimar Signed For Newcastle?

Once they get going Newcastle seem to be wasting no time as Sky Sports is said to be reporting today that Newcastle have signed Pablo Aimar, another Argentine midfielder.

Pablo Aimar – another Newcastle signing?

We warn that nothing about this is official until announced by the Newcastle Unite official site, but hopefully that verification will not be too long in coming.

Real Zaragoza, Aimar’s club, were relegated from the Spanish First Division last season, and they wanted to unload their Argentine International to cut costs at the club.

The fee should be anywhere between £6.5M, which is what Zaragoza wanted, and £4M, which is what Newcastle United initially offered, if this news is true.

Real Zaragoza had invited Newcastle to make an improved bid for their player, that will meet the Spanish club’s demands.

Here is Pablo’s career playing record so far:

Years Club App Goals

1995–2001 River Plate 83 21
2001–2006 Valencia CF 162 27
2006– Real Zaragoza 53 5

1999– Argentina 51 8

Again, this is breaking news and nothing is official until it comes from the official Newcastle United Site.

We are certainly hoping this is true though.

Comments very welcome.

well not as good as Zarate but obviously worth a go at 4m … if he indeed signs i’d need to change my name again.
but i seriously doubt if this’s true.

Aimar already has an agreement with Benfica and will probably leave this week once a fee has been agreed. If we want him we’ll have to move quickly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have already done so.

    Used to be a hotshot.
But those stats are not encouraging. Only played in average 26 games a season for Zaragoza and goals ratio about 1 in 10. We’ve a surfeit of midfielders who can’t score.
Hell, we’ve even got Smith, a striker who can’t score!
If he’s half the player he was, frankly, we couldn’t afford him and he wouldn’t be coming. We need players who are looking to make a name for themselves….
(‘Sit down at the back there, Joey’)
Not players trading on a reputation they once had.

Wherever Ed gets his information, he doesn’t publish it to piss you off, he pulishes it to keep you informaed about what he has heard. If you don’t like speculation and disappointment, don’t sit on the net all day looking for news about signings w@nkers.

Thanks for keeping us posted Ed. Hope it’s true, but am already used to the disappointment of false rumour.
