News today that Steve Round will join David Moyes at Everton this morning as his new assistant manager.
Steve Round – will join Everton today as Assistant Manager
The Newcastle Journal are reporting today that negotiations between the clubs last night thrashed out a compensation deal to allow Round to leave Newcastle United, and that has to be good news for both clubs, not to mention David Moyes and Steve himself.
Apparently Newcastle had a one year option with Round, whose contract ran out June 30th, so expected some compensation from Everton.
As we suggested yesterday, that didn’t take too long to sort out, and it seems to have been done quite amicably.
It will be a good opportunity for Steve, who is a top coach and well respected in the game, but it leaves another opening for another coach to join Kevin and Chris Hughton at Newcastle.
We would expect Kevin to appoint a replacement for Round before the end of the week, so that he will be ready for action when our pre-season starts on Monday.
Moyes has been searching for a new assistant since Alan Irvine, another former Newcastle coach, left last November to manage Preston North End.
Alan started his management career extremely well, taking Preston from second bottom in the Championship, when he took over, and had them in 15th position by the end of the season. We’ll be checking on Preston next season.
We wish Steve all the best at Everton, and look forward to an announcement soon of who his replacement will be at Newcastle.
