Newcastle Continue Their Pursuit Of Top Youngsters

July 3rd, 2008 · 27 Comments

Newcastle are continuing their search for young talent to bring to Newcastle this summer.

Dennis Wise - a busy man

Dennis Wise is our chief Recruitment Director, and he has to be given credit for the way he has tied up Jonas Gutierrez yesterday, with not a hint of the signing being leaked in the least.

Dennis has come in for some criticism from Newcastle fans, but that’s probably unfair because we don’t know yet the types of players Newcastle will bring in this summer.

Also, like most other clubs, Newcastle have only just started their transfer business, now that the fabulous Euro 2008 games have finally completed.

However, it doesn’t look like Pablo Aimer will be signed, as we had hoped earlier this morning, at least not yet, and maybe at 28 years old, he’s considered just too old. We would love to see this Argentine still sign for the club.

News from the Evening Chronicle today that two Levski Sofia youngsters Ivan Stoyanov and Ivan Goranov will be visiting Newcastle, ahead of pre-season training, so the club can take a good look at them. That sounds good.

A statement on the Bulgarian club’s official website said today:

“Two players of PFC Levski Youth Academy Ivan Stoyanov and Ivan Goranov, fly to England on 5 July to join Newcastle United for one month of pre-season preparation.“

“The trip is organized with the recommendation and assistance of the Newcastle scouting coach Vic Halom, who has lived in Bulgaria in the last few years.”

So the boys, who were both born in 1992, so are around 16 years old, will be training at Newcastle for a full month, and then after that presumably the club will decide whether to sign them.

Newcastle are building a formidable scouting network, with Newcastle scouts now covering most of the world, scouring their particular geographies for new young talent.

We think it’s a terrific strategy, and something we should have started years ago, but it’s never too late to start such a good thing.

Lastly, we need to apologize again for our site crashing this morning.  In the last two days we seem to be having new problems, and I’m looking into these, and have already tried to optimize the site, but that will be an ongoing process, since I’m learning this stuff as I go.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
Comments welcome.

  • 6 broon ale // Jul 3, 2008 at 14:29

this was on nufc.com last night.

the chronicle copied it from nufc.com and now this site copies from the comical.

  • 9 Stami // Jul 3, 2008 at 14:51

Appreciate all the effort Ed. Keep up the good work!

  • 10 Davies // Jul 3, 2008 at 15:07

Good news again. Don’t really know what Broon Ale’s issue is, some people refer to this site before the Comical and the official site, I know I do.

Go on squinty eye’s wise, give us another surprise with your dodgy mince pies!!!

  • 11 Ian // Jul 3, 2008 at 15:15

Well done ed, the site is fine, it is the news which is in short supply.

  • 12 TOONPIPES // Jul 3, 2008 at 15:16

Yes Ed, ignore the complaints and whinging, i think the blog is wicked .. it is clear and ustood by most that these are STORIES until official on the NUFC website …….. sadly some of our fellow Geordies dont seem to be able to comprehend this - dont see them running their own blog/website full of official stories - oh yes, that would be because that job is already taken by NUFC!! ………

  • 13 Ian // Jul 3, 2008 at 15:18

Broone ale, you have described exactly what a blog is!!!!!

    This is an NUFC blog!!!

We talk about stuff from elsewhere!! Do you want ed to put his hat and coat on and go and find news himself??

Would have to change the name, NUFC news!!

Dont worry I didnt know what a blog was until last year either!

  • 14 Kaler // Jul 3, 2008 at 15:24

Keep it up Ed, I enjoy the speculation as much as the official news, its something to read when bored at least. I like nufc.com but it is not updated regularly enough for me.

I’ve got a very good feeling that our club is going the good direction. MA is making it a solid business. The right thing to do is setting up a very good youth academy which the club seems to do.

DW will do a good job; I think people here were too hard to judge him before the transfer train started. Come on Geordies!

  • 16 valle // Jul 3, 2008 at 16:49

relax people… Eds a grown man, he can take care of himself. Its a little too much that everytime a fella has a complaint about something, it gets followed by 10 sympathy messages for Ed… Just let it be will ya?

  • 17 Davies // Jul 3, 2008 at 17:06

Valle, it’s only because we all love Ed.

  • 18 geno toon // Jul 3, 2008 at 17:23

    Ed you the man!

  • 19 Raghav // Jul 3, 2008 at 17:43

Ale conitnuously has sex with onstipating dogs,ED u rock man.I have heard dat newcastle are soon going to sign LUCAS PODOLSKI & LAHM,he will be playing for our reservers side.If they play well we will promote them 2 first team.

  • 20 LBToon // Jul 3, 2008 at 18:39

    Ed,

No need to apologize for the site going down. You are providing a great service to Toon fans.

The work of the front office demonstrates just how much has changed at the club in the past year.

Learning about these “surprise” signings after the fact is far better than the misinformation we were constantly fed under the old regime.

That the Chronicle is not ‘breaking news’, tells me that the staff does not have the same access to the club as they did when FS ran the show. I rarely read the Chronicle articles on NUFC because there is simply so little there.

The professionalism of the current front office, the fact that they are more focused on getting the right players rather big names that sell tickets, tells me the club is going in the right direction.

This is THE nufc site IMHO!

    Well done Ed!

  • 22 Punk Skunk // Jul 3, 2008 at 19:32

Broon ale said it was reported on .com not .co.uk
bit of a difference… .com is an unofficial ‘fan’ site & .co.uk is the ‘official’ site!..

  • 23 The Entertainers // Jul 3, 2008 at 20:04

I have to admit i get a kick out of the Toon signing / trialing top youngsters as i do in signing more high profile players.

Well done Newcastle, Ashley and Wise

just been to the emirates mall in Dubai, Dennis Wise was there with his family on holiday, he said it was the first holiday he’s had since joining the club. Had a short chat, while he purchased a golf glove from the sports shop, i asked him who is coming next, he said there will be one or two more to come. i asked who, but he wouldnt give much away, i mentioned to him that we had a small squad last year, but he said we had 27 players, and the problem was that the core of the team is old, i.e faye, butt, geremi, viduka. so i said are we buying someone to replace viduka, someone who can hold the ball up, but he said there going for a young striker he did say that they tried to sign the french kid gomes 4 months ago and he was only 8 million euros but KK hadnt seen enough of him, he said his price now is over 20 million euros!! He also said shola was a waste of space and west brom are still in for him and he will go wherever is the best deal for the club and not for shola, but norwich dont have the money. Overall he was a really really nice guy, he came across extremely focused!! on the lookout for tony jimenez now, see if i can get sum info out of him!!!
seems a strange time to take a holiday though when its meant to be his busiest time!! and also why is Tony Jimemez in Dubai at the same time???

  • 25 The Entertainers // Jul 3, 2008 at 20:37

one or two more to come!!!!!

Hope he meant holidays for himself, as we need about half a dozen players

  • 26 Owen_10 // Jul 3, 2008 at 20:49
