Bolton Wanderers have today dismissed the reports that have said they are lining up a move for Newcastle’s jailed midfielder Joey Barton.
Joey Barton – Bolton shoot down rumors
Barton of course is currently serving a six-month prison sentence for assault, but will likely be released in a matter of days.
We expect him to then probably start pre-season training, but he will need to wear an electronic tag, and will need to meet with a Newcastle delegation before that, when Newcastle will need to finally decide what to do with their troubled player.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has categorically denied his Lancashire club will be entering any negotiations with the 25-year-old troubled play-maker.
“It’s important that we get back to being the homely, family club that we claim to be,â€
Barton last week was also found guilty of assaulting former Manchester City team-mate Ousmane Dabo, for which he has received a four-month sentence, suspended for two years.
Barton will be meeting with Newcastle officials once he gets out of jail, and we suspect Newcastle will be willing to give him a second chance.
We think if they were really going to sack the player they would have done that by now.
Not many teams would be willing to take him in any case, since their fans would object to any move for Barton.
But we’re also not sure if giving Barton another chance will backfire on the Newcatle club again, should he get into more trouble, which we think is more than likely, unfortunately.
