Good News As Taylor Signs New Contract

The Newcastle Evening Chronicle is reporting this afternoon, that Newcastle United promising 22 year-old central defender, Steven Taylor, today signed a new three-year deal.

Steven Taylor – pleased to sign a 3 year deal at the club

Taylor signed the contract, reported by the Chronicle to be worth around £35K a week (about £1.8M/year),  and that finally ends speculation that he may be leaving the only club he has ever wanted to play for.

Steven is said to have signed the contract earlier this afternoon, and to have been over the moon with the contract.

It probably took longer than it should have taken, but hey, let’s give the club some credit where it’s due, and they now seem to be moving full steam ahead on both contracts and new signings.

If only we had signed Pablo yesterday – well maybe some time soon.  😀

We have little doubt that we’ll hear soon that captain Michael Owen will be  signing a new contract at Newcastle too.

We have some good players at the club, and we don’t want to lose them, and Taylor and Owen are two we certainly don’t want to lose.

We’d also like to keep young 22 year-old Frenchman Charles N’Zogba, and the longer he stays with us this summer before the end of August, the more likely it will be he will stay.

We really hope so because Kevin is the type of manager who can make him into a great player for Newcastle United.

News of this contract will no doubt please Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan and the ever faithful Newcastle supporters.

Taylor has become a major player for the club since emerging from the youth sides, and he is currently captain of the England Under-21 side.

He can only get better, if he keeps his head down and works hard, and he has shown a definite maturity last year, under difficult events on the playing side of the club.

Steven also looks like a future captain of the club in the mold of a certain Bobby Moncur.

We’re very pleased this contract has been signed, and it looks an excellent deal from Steven’s viewpoint.

We can hardly call Newcastle stingy now, when they give a 22 year-old almost £2M a year, can we?    😀

Comments very welcome.

Good news. Both party’s should be happy with the deal. £35,000 a week. Breaking News on SSN saying Cristiano Ronaldo is signing for Real Madrid for around £67M.

    a better signing that jonas!

A bit off topic, but, according to setanta we’re interested in the impressive mehmet aurelio of fenerbahce and turkey-very good signing if it comes off. Also, the tough tackling right back Coelho of brazil and athletico paranese claims he turned us down to join bolgna. To see just how much of a tough tackler he is, go on youtube, put in coelho tackle then watch the third one down with a player in black and white(not the toon) and somebody in blue with the title KERLON FOQUINHA VS ATHLETICO.

    Enjoy 🙂

Ah Good, three more years of posturing and being a geordie.
Let’s hope he learns how to defend and pass the ball more than two yards when bringing it out of defence.

I have also heard that the Inler deal is done. He will sign a three year contract early next week. He is on Holiday until the weekend, and he will return Monday and sign!!!

I am not 100% sure of this it is just something I heard from a source who is correct I would say approx 80% of the time!!

He said this would be followed by 2 more, striker & CB, and maybe 1 more midfielder if one of our midfielders leaves (Zoggy, Barton or Milner)

Great news – I agree with Andy, I’m happier to hear this than the news about Gutierrez.

Only 3 years though … I guess this means he’ll want even more money in only 2 years’ time instead of maybe 4 years.

Not bothered – delighted he’s signed.

Am pleased Taylor has signed but don’t believe that he is worth that money. He still has a lot to learn…………too much for a beginner, but then the football wage structure has gone mad.

The kid is 22, and has alot to learn. Can any of you boys can name me an accomplished 22 year old CB? Didn’t think so. Sergio Ramos cost Real Madrid £24m when he was 20 and he’s not even accomplished. Carlos Puyol didn’t get into the Barca team until he was 26. Get a grip lads and support young Taylor. If he keeps up the work, he’ll get there. And that what we all want, one of our own as a main stay in the team!

You don’t have enough justification to say that Wheater is more accomplished than Taylor, do you? You’d be basing it on one season. Would you bet your house on it? Oh, I forgot, you don’t own a house, you’re still on your mothers tit!

Taylor is still learning, when we had a player like woodgate along side him we all saw the difference!! that’s all he needs a top quality experienced defender alongside him to help and teach him!! give the lad a chance!!

Good news, he still has plenty to improve upon but he has the time and potential to do so. I was gutted when Woodgate rejected us, he would of been perfect for Taylor to play alongside and learn from. Taylor is a player we can build the team around.

If we get at least one quality central defender which it seema will be the case then Taylor must be prepared to battle for a place as he will not always be first choice. He is still learning the game and must accept this fact and knuckle down and learn from whoever is his direct competition. There could be major competition for him with whoever comes in this Summer whether it be one or even two, Faye, Cacapa ( yes cacapa) , Possibly Beye, and even Kadar and Tozer if they develop as quick as some might predict.
Its a good deal for all so the hard work may just be starting for Taylor.

    Calling him
    “Tayls” boils my pee too.
Should sign a kid called Heads and sure there is someone of that name in lower leagues.
Then KK has a atraight choice Heads or Tayls.

Tom_Toon why not? He’s a local lad and a player who could play for years at the club. Sure he’s not the best of premiership defenders at the moment but at least he knows what it means to where the shirt unlike foreign-nobodies who have come and gone.

and he probably wont be, you said it yourself why we shouldnt build a team aroun him.

Hes not evne in the top half of prem defenders.

You seem to have ignored that I said at the moment he isn’t. Ramage was simply not good enough but a local lad and Taylor has more to offer. If in two years’ time he hasn’t improved I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong. An English spine to the team is important , but not integral, and a player like Taylor can hopefully be a part of that.

Taylor, on current ability shouldnt even be in our starting 11.

Couldnt care less if our spine was Uzbek, English, Spanish or whatever, as long as its good.
