Carroll, Krul, Kadar and Tozer - Loan Candidates

The local Shields Gazette has a good report today, on just how the Newcastle United club will further develop their young up and coming stars next season.

David Edgar - 20 year old needs to make his mark next season

It seems like the club is ready to loan out some of their younger players, maybe for a 6 month spell at Championship League clubs, so they can get some first team football experience.

This will need to become an important path, for quite a number of the outstanding youngsters, we plan to bring to the club in the next few seasons.

The stars mentioned are 19 year-old striker Andy Carroll and 20 year-old Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, both of whom were both loaned out last season.

Andy was at Preston North End for 6 months, and Tim went to Falkirk, in the SPL, for the whole season.

We also expect 18 year-olds Ben Tozer and Tamas Kadar, two of our brightest young prospects, to be loaned out, probably for the full season.

However, we don’t think Reserve team captain David Edgar, who is now 20, will be too happy to be loaned out.

His contract runs out next summer, and he will no doubt want to push his way into the first team reckoning next season, if he is to have any future on Tyneside.

David has been on a high protein diet this summer, to try to bulk up a bit, to fill out his 6′2″ frame, and he started a couple of games for Newcastle at the end of last season, and performed well.

But David needs more weight on him, and the club are helping him to rectify that.

He has always looked a good prospect for us, but next season is the time when he will need to make his mark at the club, and he knows it.

So we would be really surprised if Kevin elects to loan David out, since that could mean the end of his Newcastle career.

There’s no mention of loaning out Kazenga LuaLua, the 17 year old brother of former striker Lomana Lua Lua, and we would expect Kevin to use him in some first team games this coming season. We are now allowed to have 7 substitutes in the games next season.

Quite honestly, we’d be a little surprised if Kevin doesn’t want to use Andy Carroll for the first team next season too.

Andy got his first start in the final game of last season at Everton, and the 6′3″ striker looks more than useful right now, and we all know Australian Mark Viduka has more than his fair share of injuries during the season.

It will be interesting to see who Kevin loans out, but that definitely means we’ll need to bring in at least another 6 top players, if he is willing to loan out the likes of Tozer and Kadar.

We were thinking they could augment the first team squad next season, but not if they’ll be sent out on loan, which is the best thing for them.

We still have 7 full weeks -actually 50 days and about 8 hours to be exact - before the end of the transfer window on 31st August - not that we’re getting worried at all.   :D

hey ed me m8 was at a presentation yday at sjp for his cuz’ futta team or summit… any ways edgar was the squad player chosen 2 be ther and by his account he is going to get a good run in the team and a chance to prove himself so i have a mixed reaction on this i would love him to succeed at newcastle but also will this mean that we are not going to chase another centre back?

If they aren’t going to get first team action then I agree they should be loaned out to give them some experience! and if they don’t work out sell them!

Edgar is good and I think we need no other young star in defence. We have Edgar,Taylor,Kadar,Tozer. We need to tie him to a new contract. He played well towrds the end of the season and was good at his debut against Man utd he scored.

Edgar isn’t anything special to be honest.

Edgar should have been loaned out last season but wasn’t, the lad cares more about going out and getting pissed anyway.

The other young lads should be loaned out, as I said on here the other day they are at the stage in their development where they are not finding the reserves challenging enough anymore.

in the past we have not made enough of the loan system to get our players experience so hopefully this will work well

Not if we sign, say, only 2-4 more new players this summer. I wouldn’t loan out any of them, but instead give each a few minutes sub appearances this season and keep as back-up for any injuries.

If we sign 5 or 6 more players then we can afford to loan them out. It’s kind of irritating though that the borrowing club then feels they have a stake in the player (understandably). If, say, Lua Lua became a hit while on loan at Ipswich I don’t wnat us to become soft touches and sell him for 1.5M or something.

we do hv enough young players at the back but we ever need another CB just wondering if Kaboul will be good acquisition in say a cutprice deal of 3.5m or so … not in-form at spurs but was great with Auxerre n FranceU21. the french speaking partnership with Cacapa may just work out (youth-pace-hunger plus class-experience). doubt we can get a much better young CB for 3m anyway.

I think Kev needs to think whether Edgar can make it.

I would like to see 4 CB battling it out 2 younger and 2 experienced. If he kept Edgar then an experienced defender is needed.

I agree its make or break for Edgar this season but dont see why we cant give him until January at least.

Giving us Taylor, Faye, Edgar and another experienced star, plus Cacapa as back up too.

    Oh forgot other point…

Great idea sending the other out on loan. We dont do this enough at Newcastle.

Would love to keep Lua Lua though

lua lua and carrol both look really comfortable on the ball to me , expect to see the pair of them turning a few heads next season .
they need to take whatever chances they get, but that dosnt mean i would like to see them limited to starts from the bench . let one have the full 90 now and then to prove his worth .
dont belive in this last 15 mins thing , altho kev could harly have started them last season with our situation the way it was .
you would normally say let them have a cup run , but i reckon keegan will field full strength teams for our cup games regardless of who we play .

tbh i think we should hav a local feeder team such as hartlepool (seen as we play them evry year anyway) and give them 2-3 young players per season
and edgar is a liability with his nightlife so get rid

  • 15 Ben K // Jul 6, 2008 at 18:38

I haven’t heard anything about the increase in bench players this year. Is it to match the other European leagues?

  • 16 Dan13 // Jul 6, 2008 at 18:39
