Keegan Very Persuasive With Transfer Targets

The Newcastle club may be a little quiet these days but the official Newcastle United site is still turning out articles. We’re waiting for the one that heralds our next arrival at the club.   😀

Les Ferdinand – one of our most popular former players

And a good article today from the redesigned Newcastle site, that features one of our favorite former players, Les Ferdinand.

Les thinks that any potential transfer target, sitting down for talks with Kevin Keegan this summer will immediately be sold on a move to the club.

We have to believe Les is dead right and why wasn’t Kevin involved with Luka Mordric, because we think he would have sold Luka in 5 minutes, on the club and the city – Kevin is that persuasive.

Kevin can even get average players to think they’re so much better than they really are, and they start producing great performances for him. That’s almost the definition of a great coach.

Les loves the Newcastle United club and its fans and he talked to the official site today, about Kevin Keegan:

“If any player meets with Kevin then I’m sure there will only be one club they’ll sign for.”   “I remember when I signed in 1995, he just had a passion for Newcastle and all the players who came here knew how great this place was after meeting Kevin.”

“I was lucky because even before I signed I’d played there for QPR and thought at the time that it would be amazing to play in front of those fans week-in-week-out.”   “But Kevin was a special guy and he had a way of lifting you and making you feel special about yourself.”

“I thought, as a striker, if there is anyone I can learn from then it’s Kevin Keegan, and he sold the club to me within two or three minutes,”  “He was very honest. He said to me that he knew I liked it in London because I could go out and lose myself.”

“But he said that in Newcastle I wouldn’t be able to do that because I would be a success straight away and the people up there worship their heroes.”

Keegan was right there, and the man is still worshiped on Tyneside.

When he came back to play for other teams at St. James’ he always got a great welcome from the fans, and when the club has an old stars get together, he’s always one of the first to be invited.

We think Les was not only a great player, but he’s a great guy.

And just like Nobby Solano, he is one of our former players who are now great Newcastle United ambassadors, even though they may not know it – they talk so very highly about the club, the fans and the city.    😀

Comments welcome.

Great goal/game record for Les in black n white and what a fantastic partnership with Shearer.

Very professional attitude and loved by the fans.

If this is on the official site, then surely the board need to take notice and let Keegan meet with the players we are trying to sign in the future. Anyone know if he met with Spiderman?

I can never understand why people say that we should get certain ex players in as coaches just because they were decent players.

As for Ferdinand, he had a very good start here but went missing when we blew the lead in the title race to Man Utd.

Lets hope Keegan still has the magic and can convince those players he spoke to on the phone that Terry Mac was talking about.

Superb striker wherever he went during his career, and just wish we had someone of his quality playing in the Premiership now, England certainly need a player of his ilk.

Closest now is someone like Ashton and he’s just not got the class of Ferdinand.

Someone like Carroll could learn a lot by looking back over tapes of Sir Les, just for his quality of movement and predatory instinct.

Mathew, Les didn’t go ‘missing’, if you remember those last hal;f dozen games we fell victim to a couple of wonder goals, Albert missed a sitter etc, etc….you need an element of luck in a title race, rember how we absolutely peppered Man Utd goal at St James’ , Scmeichel played out of his skin, we hit the bar, the post……!!

I remember that Tino signed and although a great signing it unbalanced the team.

He scored 7 goals from the turn of the year up until the end of the season, if Ronaldo had done that this season and Man Utd blew a 12 point lead people would be calling him the biggest bottler of all time.

I’ve got a lot of time for Ferdinand but there’s no denying that when we as a club needed him most he failed to deliver.

Lets hope he weaves his magic soon – the way I see it we are in need of another 6 players – unless we are going to blood the reserves .

Still holding out for Derdiyok and Moutinho and then a few defensive signings – but not Anton Ferdinand as he suffers from lack of concentration ala bramble

@ Matthew, hang your head in shame mate. I’ve never heard so much rubbish.

Les gave 100% in every game he played. He never once went missing. I’ve had a season ticket at SJP for 16 years mate, not once did the lad let us down.

Get a grip son & stop taking nonsence.

Got to agree with everyone else Matthew. You can not just blame one person for us blowing a 12 point lead. At the time, Les was still scoring goals, its a team effort at the end of the day. Man U, they won the tittle because it was a team performance, ronaldo, rooney, tevez, carrick, scholes, giggs, ferdinand all at the top of their game, so if only 2 or 3 are doing it, how can you excpect to win a tittle etc. albert was never the same after his injury, great player and loved him, but when he first came, he was outstanding, could skate accross that football pitch, he did his knee, came back a different player. the problem we had was we changed the midfield. why change a midfield. lee clark was playing out of his skin, although he never did anything flash, he was the second best passer of a ball at the club, with pedro the best of course. he tried to accomodate tino also, i think we should have left it was it was. maybe strengthend the back four a bit more, we could have seen it out then. still though, were great days. moving forward, we firstly need our owner to back kk here, caus at the moment he is not doing anything of the sort. if kk wants to bring quality, we should be doing everything possible to get that quality, not getting chelsea’s, liverpools and everyone else’s reserves.

Aye sad news about his nephew. Life is tricky sometimes.

Think football has changed a lot since Kevin was last with us. ~It has become far more lucrative and attracts the kind of agent that has a far greater say in a players employment then he really should. Scum of the earth basically.

Can’t blame Les a lot of players lost form then. My worst memory was when Gillespie was injured KK played Beardsley out on the right. He kept cutting in and forgetting to go back and keep the shape, and help the right back. Asprilla had played RW for Columbia at times, could not speak English and should have been pushed out there(not that he would have helped defensively just the shape.) I remember Barton being totally exposed by facing a lw and lb in the last games with no help. Not blaming Beardsley he is my hero, just was not a right midfielder.
Remember Beresford getting caught out of position so much, Elliot was a good Lb at the time and stronger defensively. KK would not change the way we played, he had got us 12 points clear with that. He had no reason to expect the same squad to fold. Hindsight is a wonderful thing , we could all have picked a team and won the premiership that season with it!
