All Things Quiet At Newcastle

Very little new news on Newcastle United this morning, and we wonder why things are so quiet at the club.

Kevin Keegan – no news yesterday about first day back for the squad

Yesterday was the first day back for the lads, and usually we see a few good photos of the lads training, and if there is going to be any change in the shirt numbers the lads play with, that’s usually some news too.

We know number 5 is now available, and wonder if young Steven Taylor will be given that number.

And there doesn’t seem to be anything new on the transfer front, with us again being linked with the players we were after on Sunday – Sidwell, Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Ferdinand. Ameobi is being linked with WBA again, as we expected, since Kevin Phillips looks very likely to move to Birmingham.

No words at all from Kevin Keegan, which is unusual to say the least, but we heard late last week that it will still be 2 weeks before we hear much from King Kev.

Why that’s the case we have no idea, but we hope today to at least see some pictures of the lads in training.

If the silence is because the club is working on new incoming transfers, then that’s fine, and we hope to see some new players arriving soon, so they can get a full pre-season with the team before we start our league fixtures in mid August, with a tough start against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

We must get off to a good start next season.

Certainly, the signing of Gutierrez, was both a great signing and completely out of the blue, so if we can get a couple more of them, the silence is fine by us, we think.   😀

Comments welcome, but please keep them civil and let’s respect other people’s opinions, even if we don’t agree with them.

please please please no to ANTON!

    Inler – yes
    sidwell – Yes
    Skjelbred – Yes

Why no reported interest in bentley and crouch???? Maybe we’ve told they are out of our reach!

As for the quite noise at St jame’s, does this bring bring back vivid memories of the Gutierrez signing? hmmm…maybe somethings imminent 🙂

I think they are being quiet now because they are trying to get Aimar in. The media have been trying to link us to him and him to us for a long time, and for us to bring him in silently, then we would have to calm things down a bit….with Emre out, we need Aimar…I think…or Elano…or Xabi Alonso or maybe Hugo Viana?

I’m quite pleased that there is silence from the club. I think it’s a sign of the new professionalism. Anything that’s said will just be misrepresented or reported selectively by the press. Incidentally, I think once MA started responding to every rumour the press would create a situation where he had to respond every day. He has a few businesses to run!

I’m quite happy to wait for the next signing.

You would have thought that there were enough staff at St. James’ to deal with transfers and press releases.

The quiet must be part of a strategy to avoid public statements for fear of being misconstrued. Perhaps there’s nothing to say yet. It’s only day 2 of preseason and half the squad are still absent.

    A bit ‘Mary Celeste’ though.

    Tjodalf…
    Hugo Viana!
    Are you having a laugh?

There are four numbers for the first team available which are 2, 4, 5, and 8. Number 7 can be taken away from Barton too. Let him have another one until he goes. I know modern numbers do not mean position number but I am old fashioned enough to want 1 to 11 to actually mean something. I agree with Ed Harrison – things do seem to be hushed. Something must be coming out of the blue. As Mr McCawber said “Something will turn up”. Somebody who?

Seriously don’t want Sidwell. Please. Would much prefer Inler or even a cheeky bid for Rosenborg’s Demidov.

I hear that two new signings are imminent, Inler and Sjkelbred my ‘sources have never let me down before! Also heard that Cuellar could be coming from Rangers though this largely depends on a central defender coming the other way.

NOT SIDWELL, was never that great a player imo, and too much for £5m. I think JB will be given another chance at Toon too. Inler is the box to box player, and from what i’ve read Skjelbred is also similar to an extent.

I hope the Aimar deal is actually gonna happen, as he will be a maestro in the midfield. Look at the impact Hleb has had for Arsenal, Aimar can definitely do the same, as long as he’s happy getting kicked about a bit!

I’m not going to panic just yet, the last time it was this quiet, as everybody has rightly pointed out, we suddenly confirmed Gutierrez’s signing. One more this week maybe?

my m8 in switzerland said to me that we were supossed to be getting inler deal completed yesterday, and he is normally correct, so im quite disapointed, hopefully we will get the deal done today or tomorrow, anyway he said to me this morning that the deal will be done by wednesday at the latest

but this is just going by wot he has heard in switzerland

Patience is the key. If we were going to splash all that cash on Modric, I’m sure we’ll spend some money this summer on other targets.

Inler sounds good, not that I’ve really seen anything of him, as does Sidwell.

Might not be the exciting signings of seasons past but this year is about improving the depth of quality in the squad, achieving a position in the top 8, hopefully Europe, so next year we can kick on and attract even better players.

Anyone else feel we won’t be buying a striker? I think KK might have more faith in Smith than most of our fans were hoping.

Maybe we’re not hearing anything because nothing is happening!!!
But I do hope something is happening tho as I think we have a pretty weak squad at pressnt & need to strengten up quite a lot, so hopefully the club is keeping quiet & that’s how its goind to be from now on until they get their man/men!!
As for Sidwell, the greedy git could have come to us last season but chose Chelski for the money as he knew all to well he’d not get in there first team.. 🙁 So I hope we don’t pay 5m for him..

By the way, I’m really not that fussed about Sidwell, and I DON’T want Anton Ferdinand. Nowhere near as good as his big brother.

Skjelbred, Inler and Aimar for me. I’m happy enough with our defenders, we actually have some decent options available. I know wor Kev wants defenders. I hope he’s looking at the likes of Zhirkobv and Cuellar rather than Ferdinand.

Sidwell isn’t any better than what we’ve got. Give Barton one more chance as he’s better than Sidwell for sure, and we could use the £5m in other area’s.

Inler has just come back off his hols, I imagine whats been holding that one up. He’s got to have a medical and agree terms, so expect something in the next day or two there.

Bet we didn’t even bid for crouch, he’s too old for us under the new regime and his wages are too high.

I think Sidwell is happy where he is now, picking up a nice paycheck for training abit. He also has had the chance to join us, so he can stay where he is, and we’ll take Inler instead 🙂 Skjelbred does sound like hes worth a punt.

The silence is killing mee!!!! 😀

To be honest the silence doesn’t bother me. You don’t hear anything from the likes of ManUre, Chel$ki or the Arse until they’ve signed someone.
Also why are people so quick to believe what anyone writes in the comments, yet they rubbish what Ed posts or what is in the papers.
IMHO rumours posted in the comments hold just as much weight as rumours posted in the red tops or on the bbc rumours pages.

I hope Sidwell is happy at Chelsea, i dont want him anway, he is all about his paycheck, does he honestly feel scolari will want an average payer like him in the first 11, doubt it. He just knows the less he plays, the less chance of him being found out

I feel he wants to have the first week of training to fully know what posistions he needs filling.
seeing if he feels N’ Zogbia can fill the left side or if he needs to buy someone like Ardas etc….. by 2 weeks we should have 1/2 players or nearly the whole we will start season with, but WE will make 1 more signing on last day i recon.
