The agent of Zenit St Petersburg star 27 year-old Andrei Arshavin has told the Daily Telegraph, that he expects the Russian to travel to England soon for transfer discussions.
Andrei Arshavin – may well end up in Premier league
Arshavin was impressive at Euro 2008 with Russia, at least in his first two games. In the semi-final game against Spain, he was hardly noticeable, and seemed completely exhausted.
Spanish giants Barcelona have had their second offer of 15M euros (£12M) turned down only yesterday, with his Russian club holding out for more than £20M. Talk about being greedy.
Arshavin’s agent, Dennis Lachter, has said he expects the Russian pay-maker to be heading to the Premier League for negotiations, shortly.
We expect the clubs interested are Arsenal and Chelsea.
Lachter says that Arshavin would only consider a club that can provide Champions League football.
Lachter talked to the Daily Telegraph today:
“Andrei would like to play in the Premier League but he will not accept an offer from clubs like Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa.”
“There are only four British clubs he would play for and they are in the Champions League. It’s not about money, it’s about a team and professional ambition.”
“Zenit is negotiating with several clubs.”
“We are now waiting for a phone call from Zenit president Alexander Dyukov to allow us to negotiate his personal terms with one of them.”
“It’s most likely he will be heading for England.”
Lachter also believes that any interested club will need to double Barcelona’s bid and make a bid of around £24million to complete the transfer. This, mind you, after he was up for sale for £8M just 6 months ago.
Well, they can try we suppose, but there’s no way he’s worth anywhere near that figure, even if he did have two excellent games at Euro 2008.
Lachter added.
“It’s going to be a very big transfer,” “Zenit will definitely not accept an offer of less than 30M euros (£23.8M).”
“They are owned by Gazprom, who are one of the biggest oil companies in the world, so they can afford not to sell him cheaply.”
We think Arshavin is worth around £10M, maybe a little more, but good luck to any club who wants to pay £20M or more for him.
Newcastle certainly have better things to do this summer, with that kind of money.
Comments welcome.

Comment #161Excuse me, I was defending myself. Tell DC over there to behave and there will be no problems. But, alas, once more I am the scapegoat for the users of this site. It reminds me of 1930’s Germany, it’s quite eerie.

fair point.
I wasn’t sure before, but the more I see us acting (better to say not acting) on transfer market, the more I miss him. Who knows, may be with KK in charge instead of Sounness and Roeder we could do it much better.
But let’s judge MA on 1st of September

Comment #167dcbashore – I suppose you’re talking about me? If I was trying to troll, I could do so much better than this. I’m just trying to post my opinions like everyone else without being attacked for everything I say. Read the new rules, they extend to me as well.
And about the Fat Fred comments, you’re looking at the past in rose tinted glasses. Remember how far in debt we were because of him, the contempt he held for the fans of this club, going over his managers head in the transfer market and of course the trophy signings that were very bad for the team in the end.

Comment #169Im starting to not want him anymore at the club more and more every day
I realise that players that come here for the money “Habib Beye” can do well and grow to love the club but cant see that happening with Arshavin, who is now known worldwide
Ed was right in an article before, why pay £££££££ for Arshavin when we can get the next Arshavin for peanuts? Thought we have a world class scouting network?

Comment #170The problem here if you wanna buy next-Arshavin or next-Kaka for peanuts you probably will buy next-Viana, next-Ameobi and next-Marcelinho.

Comment #172yeah i guess, but how much did Ameobi cost us again? 🙂
Buying unproven players is low risk, if they dont make the grade then you can ship them off to some Championship club. for a small loss, not like buying Michael owen for £17m and potentially losing him for £9m.
Even if 1 in 4 players made the grade then thats a good return, then again we have some top home grown youngsters in the making, with kadar, Tozer, Baheng, Kazenga and maybe Zamblera. The thing that speaks for the past regime is the fact that we have one academy player in the first team, who is Stevie Taylor,
Id love to see the batch of kids come through and do well like the way Man Utd brought through the likes of Butt, Beckham, Scholes & Giggs all around the same time, much cheaper than spending £20m on Arshavin 😉
But the potential reward is immense… Gael Clichy cost Wenger 200k I think, if he was to be sold now, how much would he cost?!
Which is why I welcome the new policy of youth and less trophy signings, I wonder what the average age of players brought in was in the keegan era?
Baheng, Soderberg, Kadar, Tozer, Zamblera, Diatta, Gutierrez

Comment #173Well it’s nice to see that we’re all back to bickering a matter of about three articles after Ed lifted the comments restriction.
51Times. You are not being made a scapegoat. I have just read all of the comments on here and you appear to have created an argument from another reader’s perfectly innocent comment.
Please have consideration for the rest of us. I do not want to lose the comments again, and I’m sure nobody else does. Try to learn some self control please.
On a related note, I would have Arshavin in a heart beat. I don’t care what his agent says, or if he can’t play 4 games in a week (that’s really not a requirement for us this season), but I agree his club’s valuation is obscene. £12m tops I say.
I am getting to the point (yet again) where I no longer care who we sign, I just want my football back. Roll on 16th August.

Comment #174It’s getting desperate for Arshavin like, I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole, let alone £23mil.
The arrogance of the Zenit club will end them in tears too. If Barca wont pay it, Wenger and Mourinho won’t pay it – who will?
It’ll be funny when they are stuck with a unhappy player, underperforming. For example, imagine if Barry ended up staying at Villa 😛 LMAO

i’d like to see some mixture of high-profile buyings and young-talents developing from academy.
And we did it before – remember NZogbia – was bought for something around 700k I guess and now could be sold for 7m or even more on his day.
As for FF vs MA debate. All we know is what MA, Mort and Fred told us.
MA claims that he cleared 100m debts, but nobody can be sure about it, and according to some sources we still are not 100% debt free.
I want to be wrong, but one year is gone and I haven’t seen much of MA yet.
This 100m debts clearence (still not proven) is the only positive thing about Ashley so far.
I’m not the one who gonna throw stones now, let’s see what will happen in July and August, but I’m just affraid of being deluded.

Comment #176What depts man….80 mill is that what you call a dept,Barca just got 320 mill profit but they still have 120 mill dept.I’m not gonna name the clubs who are over 200 mill in depts and they are still very much alive.
The only reason why he cleared the debt is to get a higher resale value.
Marat….spot on mate,well said.

Comment #178No way is he worth that much. And i cant see him coming to England, cos i dont believe anyone wants/needs/can afford him now. Unless Zenit is willing to take lesser, in which, Barca would be in with a huge shout.
