Expect More Transfer Shocks At Newcastle

With what happened last week, when Newcastle signed Jonas Gutierrez right out of the blue, and with Newcastle being so so quiet about things since Kevin returned from holiday, we shouldn’t be at all surprised if Newcastle capture other players that haven’t even been covered by anyone.

dennis-wise-212.jpg

Dennis Wise and Kevin – two most important people on transfers

We have to hope that Dennis Wise and Kevin are forming a good working relationship together, because they are the two most important figures on the transfer front at Newcastle.

And we have to give credit where it’s due, and the Gutierrez deal looked just great from Newcastle’s point of view.

One of our readers, Craig, today was so right when he started one of his comments off by stating:

“I have given up trying to even guess who we might be getting.”

We have all spent two months on here debating everyone apart from the one guy we did buy!!”

That is such an accurate and true statement.   😀

As you know we try to cover almost every player we’re linked with this summer, and realize 95% of them we’ll not get, and probably aren’t even interested in, if the truth be known.

But that has some advantages for us, because we are able to build up a little dossier on players we’ve been linked with over the last 14 months, and as you know, that’s a lot.

But when we signed Gutierrez we did a search of our archives and we came up with … nothing.

We hadn’t been linked with the player in the slightest, although he was a big target of Portsmouth last January when the figure mentioned was anywhere between £8M and £10M. We think the club has got a fantastic deal for Jonas, and all credit to them.

We’re not sure there’s even truth in the Ferdinand and Sidwell rumors, because we’ve been linked with them in the past, which is perhaps why the stories have resurfaced.

Newcastle will be pleased if they’re not in for them, because it keeps the press happy, and we are able to go after our real targets with stealth- as the club proved with Gutierrez.

They may be a little disappointed if they are indeed after 21 year-old Norwegian central midfielder, Per Ciljan Skjelbred, but there doesn’t seem much danger if it has leaked out.

Seems like if Newcastle were to meet the price wanted by his club, Rosenburg, we’re sure the long term Newcastle United supporter would jump at the chance to come to Tyneside.

We must say, he also looks a good player in the making, and we need some central midfield replacements.

But exactly who we’ll bring in next – we haven’t got a clue. 😀

But that may be a sign the club is doing their transfer business the right way this summer!

Just don’t expect it to be Arshavin:

“Andrei would like to play in the Premier League but he will not accept an offer from clubs like Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa,” Lachter said in the Daily Telegraph.

    The swine.

greg-im not even too bothered anymore.
statements like that just make it look like he’s wanting a signing all about the £’s!
if he doesnt want to join a club with ambition in the prem, only a club that are already guaranteed top flight football, then so be it. considering big phil said he wasnt a target for chelsea and wenger has his doubts (two teams that he wouldnt be guarantee’d a starting place in anyway), then he may miss out on his “dream move” and end up staying in russia. more fool him i say!

Ross G – I doubt very much you know him or are norwegian, one of the norwegian readers sent us a link to an interview with Skjelbred saying he supports Newcastle.

Now if you dont like it, go back to your ‘3rd place’ site.

i just got a shock. stubbed ma toe lol.

actually something quite interesting came in the post today, because i only renewed 2 of my 4 tickets due to massive price increase we got a letter from nufc asking if we wanted to take up the option on the other tickets, giving us more time…

would i be right in thinking not enough people are renewing?

Tom_Toon – I once saw Ross G with Skjelbred wondering about Liverpool looking for a place with running water and food that wasn’t made out of rats before they went off to Anfield to watch the red Scousers play, so I can back his claims up.

I was saying exactly he same to my mate Ed, it will probably be someone we have not even been linked with. I would love it to be Senna (dreamin’ again) or even Inler / Aurelio / Servet / Altintop would all be good in my view

The transfer speculation by the national press (and local at times) reminds me of an old Russian proverb. A crowd of people were on a river bank making a big fuss about a load of wood chips floating by. While they were wound up with this a great log floated by unseen. I think KK etc are letting the press spread their rumours. While the Mirror etc etc do this they will not see what NUFC are really doing. Just like the big log who turned out to be Gutierrez. Let the gossip mongers have their chips while we get on with the job of supporting the efforts of KK and NUFC. Who says KK has no tactics, eh?

Dont you think a little strange that considering it is the busiest time of the year where transfers are concerned, old wobbly eyes takes a holiday?

You would have thought MA would have made him do the job he is paid to do instead of sunning himself.

I think if we try to guess the formation and the places we need strenghtening, we can come up with at least an Idea of who to sign.
Last When Milner went out injured it caused Kevin to revert to 4-3-3 which may have been a blessing in disguise but it appears that 4-4-2 or at least running with 2 wingers is part of Kevins plans hence the Gutierrez capture, a possible backup for milner on the right wing?
This also leads to the defence and a central Midfielder as well as a Striker – someone not of the Owen/Martins Mold but someone who can carry Vidukas mantle – a shearer-esque type striker to compliment the other striker up front.
I Haven’t really narrowed that down at all have i?!!?! 🙁

I think we should all stop talking about Inler. All this speculation will lead to expectation and that expectation is bound to lead to disappointment.

Hate to be a doom merchant but I also hate being disapppointed!

Expectation is the mother of all disappointment.

I know he is a bit of a favourtie on here, but I still think Oba has a lot to prove this season. I just don’t see him ever being a better goalscorer than MO. He is obviously a great athelete but he lacks a footballing brain. Yes, he has scored some wonder goals (a la White Hart Lane), but he is not consistent. I reckon another big striker is definitely a priority.

    Sean667…

I was reporting a rumour from another Rumour Mill site (www.football-rumours.com) that Owen and Barton were going to Everton with a swap for Arteta and we were going to buy Arshavin.

I don’t think it’s true but it shows the possibilites given that, as was mentioned in the article above, we haven’t a clue what’s going to happen. Mind, it looks as though the Inler rumour’s gathering pace.

893 ‘Transfer News and Rumours’ in the Archive just about sums it up. Even more than Joey Barton!
