With what happened last week, when Newcastle signed Jonas Gutierrez right out of the blue, and with Newcastle being so so quiet about things since Kevin returned from holiday, we shouldn’t be at all surprised if Newcastle capture other players that haven’t even been covered by anyone.
Dennis Wise and Kevin – two most important people on transfers
We have to hope that Dennis Wise and Kevin are forming a good working relationship together, because they are the two most important figures on the transfer front at Newcastle.
And we have to give credit where it’s due, and the Gutierrez deal looked just great from Newcastle’s point of view.
One of our readers, Craig, today was so right when he started one of his comments off by stating:
“I have given up trying to even guess who we might be getting.”
“We have all spent two months on here debating everyone apart from the one guy we did buy!!”
That is such an accurate and true statement. Â 😀
As you know we try to cover almost every player we’re linked with this summer, and realize 95% of them we’ll not get, and probably aren’t even interested in, if the truth be known.
But that has some advantages for us, because we are able to build up a little dossier on players we’ve been linked with over the last 14 months, and as you know, that’s a lot.
But when we signed Gutierrez we did a search of our archives and we came up with … nothing.
We hadn’t been linked with the player in the slightest, although he was a big target of Portsmouth last January when the figure mentioned was anywhere between £8M and £10M. We think the club has got a fantastic deal for Jonas, and all credit to them.
We’re not sure there’s even truth in the Ferdinand and Sidwell rumors, because we’ve been linked with them in the past, which is perhaps why the stories have resurfaced.
Newcastle will be pleased if they’re not in for them, because it keeps the press happy, and we are able to go after our real targets with stealth- as the club proved with Gutierrez.
They may be a little disappointed if they are indeed after 21 year-old Norwegian central midfielder, Per Ciljan Skjelbred, but there doesn’t seem much danger if it has leaked out.
Seems like if Newcastle were to meet the price wanted by his club, Rosenburg, we’re sure the long term Newcastle United supporter would jump at the chance to come to Tyneside.
We must say, he also looks a good player in the making, and we need some central midfield replacements.
But exactly who we’ll bring in next – we haven’t got a clue. 😀
But that may be a sign the club is doing their transfer business the right way this summer!
