New Comments Policy For The Newcastle United Blog

July 8th, 2008 · 170 Comments

As you may now know, we were forced to close down the comment section to the articles last Sunday night, because the comments were simply getting out of control.

nufc-crest.png

And I feel responsible as the owner of the web site to control these types of comments.

Since then I’ve had lots of notes from our readers on ways to overcome this and control inappropriate comments better.

The main thing we will now start doing, that we’ve resisted in the past, is that repeat offenders will be banned form leaving a comment.

So here’s the new procedures we will follow starting tomorrow:

  • Every user will continue to register with their name and email ID
  •  If a user posts a comment which is inappropriate – I will give them a warning via email.
  •  If, for some reason, I cannot contact them via their email ID, they get banned immediately.
  •  The second time a user posts an inappropriate comment they will be banned
  •  If someone logs on with my name as Ed Harrison, Dr. Ed Harrison or whatever, which has been happening more frequently recently, they will be banned immediately.
  • If someone is making inappropriate comments I ask that users on the site contact me immediately via the Contact Form, which will be handily available.
I will not mind getting multiple emails from users, because I’ll need to take action fairly immediately.
One example may be from other club’s supporters, who only log on to try to stir the Newcastle fans up, and have been succeeding too many times lately.
  • Use of bad language is discouraged and if a comment contains certain words - you know what they are, they will straight to me to be moderated. However, whereas before I simply changed the offending words to  ***   I’ll now just delete the comments.
The “F” word and the “C” word are two words that are not allowed.

Also, to aid readers who use mobile phones and personal assistants to view our web site, when you click on an article, the first column on the right, which contains a lot of pictures and therefore lots of data, will not be downloaded.

This will hopefully improve the usability of the site for mobile users.

I’d like to get some feedback to see if this is effective and also advice on how the site could be better improved for mobile users – again please use the contact form.

When you click on the home site www.nufcblog.com there will be the usual two columns on the right hand side.

We’ll start these new procedures in a way that will continue to allow our users to post reasonable comments on the site. It’s only about 1% of the readers that try to spoil it for everybody else - but let’s now declare war on that 1%.

Comments are welcome again, and I’ve set it so that you can now comment on yesterdya’s articles - but please keep them civil.

The new procedures go immediately into effect - and I am relying on our loyal readers to work with me to control the inappropriate comments, so we can do what we all want to do.

That is to have good discussions about the news of the day concerning our great club - Newcastle United.    :D

Thanks - Ed Harrison.

  • 6 Hadrian // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:25

nice to have comments back (was wanting a moan earlier on an article :D ) , but id think you’d find the blog would just be another ‘also ran’ without them .

  • 7 furrygiblets // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:27

    Awesome news Ed cheers!

So what’s everyone’s thoughts on getting Faz back :D

  • 8 Mac // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:30

Nice on Ed welcome back. Well another slow day today. Glad Newcastle spoke out to quash any rumours, just wish Cashley would come out and say a bit.

  • 9 Nick Gray // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:33

    good on ya ed.

dont let the few ruin it for the rest of us.

  • 10 cooldj // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:33

name and shame thats what i say (as long as wall virginity don’t count as offensive!!! (i weren’t here on sunday, in nice words what was said??))-but whats to stop those offenders putting down another email and then coming with a new name?? i spose the whole waiting for moderation is particuarly annoying!!!

  • 11 ObaFan2 // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:36

Great news Ed and like others I’m so happy the comments are back and hopefully back to stay.

A blog gets pretty emplty without comments and what would we do without TT’s words of wisdom on foreign footballers :) lol

  • 12 Daniel Petersen // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:37

Cheers Ed, good to have you back.

  • 13 domtoon // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:39

Well, I guess we all have to work together to make this work this time.

  • 14 Chris F // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:39

While it’s good to see comments back, i do still think a wholly better solution would be to keep them seperate entirely from the articles on a seperate forum section for the site.

that would allow you add an appropriate link at the bottom of each article pointing to the forums, as well as giving you more control over who can post, which would do away with all the incendiary baiting coming from other clubs’…..well, from spurs fans.

you may not be able to moderate them yourself, ed, but i’m sure there are plenty of regular commentators on here who could help you out as forum mods, though obviously you’d have to be able to trust whoever was given that privilege.

the sad fact is, the site’s popularity is becoming it’s undoing, as an unmoderated comments facility is just too open to abuse, as we’ve seen in the past few days.

it would also serve to keep things on topic, as far too often i’ve seen these comments sections descend into either slanging matches, or veer off on topics wholly unrelated to the article they’re attached to.

i have nothing against that sort of thing, but it has it’s place, and live comments on a blog should, imo, be kept relevant to the article they’re attached to.

    just my tuppence worth.

  • 15 arctoa // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:41

I rarely ever comment any more anyway, but it’s all good in the hood with this new system. It did seem like things were getting out of control. Keep up the good stuff, Ed: this is my staple daily source of information, along with nufc.com.

  • 16 ToonDaft // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:43

love the comments at the end of articles Ed, shame for the idiots i agree ;)

  • 17 mozza // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:43

@domtoon aye you right there, we should collectivelly adopt a no reaction to provokers attitude, dont react and they’ll soon get bored

  • 18 Nick K. // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:45

I have always liked this website. Good to hear that a policy for posting is in place. Chris’s idea of separating the news and comments sounds like a good. However, this might mean more work for Ed. :)

  • 19 Jim // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:45

Good to have this back Ed. Being away from the North East, there’s not that many folk to talk Toon news to.

  • 20 Aussie geordie // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:47

    Thanks Ed.

  • 21 JR Lutterbach Habib // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:47

    Great changes, Ed.

Sorry for some language erros, I’ll try to write down as right as I know. I’m brazilian, and there are some slangs that I’ll probably don’t know.

Finally, I try to comment all NUFC’s news right here.

Proud to be here, the most famous NUFC Blog on the net. At least in Brazil.

  • 22 Mac // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:48

  • 23 Mac // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:49

Aussiegeordie where abouts in OZ are u?

  • 24 Jim // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:49

Sooo… Anyone got a reasonable idea about who’s stirring the brown stuff about the club? I think there must be more to it than pure newspaper naughtiness.

Whatever the source, I think Ashley could have personally knocked all this fuss on the head a long time ago with a definitive statement of intent, both to boost the supporters as well as attract potential signings.

Abereen Mac. Left the NE about 12 years ago.

  • 25 Tom_Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 0:50

Nice one. Yeah i left 3 years ago and now live in Liverpool. However missus was born in Oz so now talking about moving over there.
I’m not sure if the brown stuff is being stirred,i won’t convinced until Cashley backs KK or he comes out himself and squashes the rumours

  • 52 Dondata13 // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:10

Although, I am against censorship (I believe we have fought many wars to have the freedom of speech in this country) … The numpty’s have won. Ed, you had no choice. The vile on this site was starting to get silly. You have been backed into a corner and alas we all suffer.

This is a great site, there is some fantastic banter, where OPINIONS are forecast. I will echo Ed and say again, they are just YOUR OPINIONS and NOT FACT!

I just hope that the new format will allow us to debate (yes sometimes in a heated manner) the views we have for OUR beloved Newcastle United ………..

  • 53 ObaFan2 // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:12

I hope Inler will sign before the end of the day :)

  • 54 mozza // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:14

if the likes of inler signs, it dampens the conspiracy theories and lets face it even by our standards, bin ladden take over, they cant get any worse than that, can they?

  • 55 Leo // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:14

    tom ‘you flippin poo head’

good to have the comments back…

i wonder how many messages ed got saying exactly what i did, you dont miss what you have got till its gone…

  • 56 HATE PRAWN SANDWICHES // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:15

I believe Inler just got back from holiday im sure I read it some where the other day!? so hope the club pull there finger out and sign him soon!

  • 57 Jim // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:16

I was reading up on the Toons new found status in the wake of the G14 and one of the measures they’re trying to push is to abandon the 6 plus 5 proposal in favour of ‘8 homegrown trainees’ where a club must have that amount of players that have come through the youth ranks (been with the club for 3 years from under 21). This makes a lot of sense whe you consider our apparent transfer policy. If it did come in, we’d be laughing.

    Here’s on article on it:

damn people dont like the whole changing the subject and conversing in a totally different subject on hear rather than on the story which was submitted…

oooh conversing im using big words again- this sensorship is working i say woohoo

  • 60 ScottyT // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:19

cant w8 till next season tbh like. just looking at wer am sittin and the atmosphere that should hopefully be generated.

been moved to the ‘leazes corner’ i.e. singing section so hoping for a much betta atmosphere even if the view isnt as gd. hopin for more noise up there like the toon ultra article on here is all about!! :)

  • 61 domtoon // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:19

A blog without comments is a bit like a footballer without a…..football.

  • 62 toonoot // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:20

Good grief. Over 50 posts and no one’s mentioned Hitler yet :)

  • 63 Jim // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:21

    Leo…
I’ve had the blog DT’s and am just spewing it all out now Ed’s reinstated it.
    Happy days :o)

  • 64 harrier // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:23

    lies tom lies!

  • 65 Sav // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:23

A bit fussy, perhaps, Ed, although must confess I didn’t see what irked everybody at the weekend. And better over-cautious than too lax.

But you should be aware that on your ‘Toon Ultras’ blog page, you are yourself directing visitors to a page of chants many of which are not only puerile but racist, anti-semitic and sexually vulgar. Its one thing to hear on the terraces but to have written on the web as lyrics (if that is not too delicate a term) is probably worse than a few Saxon words in heated debate on here.
But to celebrate the return of ‘Comments’ can I be first to say what a crap (that’s alright, Ed?) article by ’sports-writer Graeme Anderson’ who says Roy Keane would have sacked Joey Barton for the sake of morale and the good name of SAFC. And so, he claims, would Taggart. That’ll be the same premeditated leg-breaker who did for Alf Haaland? Far be it from me to stick up for JB but are any of his crimes that much worse than that?

  • 66 jeffa // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:28

You did what you had to do Ed respect for that

as for Tom toon its not funny so please stop.

  • 67 toonoot // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:29

I told our lass that I’d just had an interview at the bowling alley. She said “Tenpin?” I said “No. It’s permanent”

  • 70 toonoot // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:42

I phoned the council and asked “Is it OK if I have a skip outside my house?”. The guy says “Ye can stand on yer heed if ye want mate”

  • 71 valle // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:43

While made up rumours arent offensive they are still a annoyance, making the rest of us search around the web to see if its true, so keep that in mind… As regards to the changes they had to come, and to be frank i thought the night on the champs league finale would have been a good time to do it, when some people recieved violent threats… Better late than never i guess

  • 72 valle // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:55

cooldj… Apperently we have a new derby game against spurs, since there seems to be some hatred brewing between our clubs, the trouble on Sunday was one of their fans stirring our blog up.

  • 73 Patrick // Jul 8, 2008 at 1:59

It is good to be back with commenting, but please don’t spread rumors of unconfirmed signings. I am living in US and I don’t get to “see KK in a restaurant talking to whoever” or “see Wise on a plane flying to somewhere.” Some of those incidents may be true, but please say it if it is 120% true only.

I don’t get to read the British news as well… Ed is the only source that I am depending on.

But it’s okay to hope players to be signed, as we always do. Let’s hope Inler and some others to be signed!! hooray!

  • 74 Patrick // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:03

Valle, I think it is something created by the transfer market activities of the recent years. It’s not hard to link the Spurs with different players that we are after. As well, Jenas was sold to Spurs which may create some pain for some of us (maybe I am not getting this right).

  • 75 T.O.Mag // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:05

Well done Ed, great site mate, keep up the good work!

  • 76 geordiekk // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:05

maybe us selling jenas to them is causing them some pain

  • 77 valle // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:07

Patrick… I have had recent spats with spurs fans as well as celtic fans, and it has nothing to do with the transfers, for some reason some of them feel the need to throw mud as us to build up their claim that they are the bigger club… Them getting Modric didnt help matters

  • 78 geordiekk // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:08

apparentlt carroll’s injury was caused jumping into a pool on holliday according to my mate anyway what a sickner

  • 79 valle // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:10

As to the Spurs, VDV has just said that he would never move to them and it is also worth noticing that even with them being so much bigger than us and all they wont get a seat among Europes finest… That made my day, seems like the rest of Europe sees Newcastle as the top dog outside the top 4 ;)

  • 80 Patrick // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:15

Valle, the matter of Modric recently would not ruin the representation of Newcastle United as one of the best recognized Five in Europe. yay!

No matter what the fans from the other clubs treat us, we are still the loyal Newcastle United fans. That won’t change.

  • 81 Matt // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:20

does this mean that spyro twats finally banned

  • 82 Matt // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:21

oops sorry ed it slipped my mind

  • 83 valle // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:26

Patrick… No ofc not in the mind of reasonable fans, but recent times have shown that not all fans are reasonable.

  • 84 shirts // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:27

Ed, I’m glad to see the comments back. THANKS AGAIN for all you do.

Cooldj–you missed some nasty anti-semitic vomitting and some foul language and name calling, best I can tell.

Spurs fans coming on here to cause trouble is no excuse for some of the stuff our own tribe spewed forth.

I love the club and the game. But I hate the ignorance of some of the fans of the game.

I hope we all value the service that Ed is rendering us by his hard work. And I hope the comments stay alive.

Nothing wrong with horsing around a bit but let’s be reasonable.

As a rule of thumb, maybe we should ask ourselves this: Would I say the very same thing I’m writing to someone’s face (and not expect five in the cake hole)? If not, don’t write it.

    Sorry to get all righteous…

  • 85 Lull // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:32

The comments are back! Sweet…. Thanks Ed!

  • 86 micepie // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:35

A separate forum would spoil the enjoyment and involvement of the whole enterprise, I feel, so I prefer Ed’s ideas.

  • 87 Chennai Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:41

    ya…the comments are back…..thanks ed

  • 88 ToonTex // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:44

Good luck with the new system Ed. You do a great job. Thanks.

  • 89 ToonTex // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:48

Oh and — while the site is being cleaned up– can we please and politely DISPENSE with the
    ‘wall virginity’
nonsense some of you guys get so excited about.? I think that is better served in the myspace/facebook realm. Not on a NUFC BLOG.

  • 90 tapir // Jul 8, 2008 at 2:55

  • 93 tam toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 3:06

Bin ladens brother has taken over at NUFC and has promised two explosive strikers.

  • 94 tam toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 3:10

Another one (again not very funny). Bin ladens brother has dumped sponsors Northern Rock at his new club NUFC. They have been replaced by MECCA Bingo.–yuukkk.

  • 95 51times // Jul 8, 2008 at 3:16

shirts - Anti-Semitism is simply a weapon, a tool to be used against Spurs. I don’t hate Jews at all and I don’t think anyone else who says anti-Semitic things in relation to Spurs does either. I believe I may have offended an Israeli Toon supporter the other week so I would just like to say in case they read this that I am an ardent supporter of Israel and that I apologise for any offence caused. That goes to the rest of you, too…let’s have a fresh start.

  • 96 Oba's Mum // Jul 8, 2008 at 3:28

Thanks for bringing back the comments Ed, some of us treat this as our number one source of news and can all have a moan and rant together.

It seems to be people from other clubs that are spoiling things so good luck with the new procedure

  • 97 BoomToon // Jul 8, 2008 at 3:29

Great site Ed, I think you got the perfect balance between reports and comments and glad you are willing to give it another go!

Now who knows who or when the next signing is going to be anounced? We need to start clearing that gloom away the press keeps trying to bury us in…Bin Laden, subtle and brick brings a sentence to mind as well as some words which would have me banned!

  • 98 i Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 4:11

On Inler, i believe everything, if any, will only be resolved when the player is back at the club next week. He is currently on holidays.

Ok, now we have all hugged and become freinds again……….where the hell are the signings??? someone told me that the arron spear deal was in the bag and woudl be announced on the 01st july - nothing happened. has anyone got news on young spear???

  • 105 Tom4Nufc // Jul 8, 2008 at 6:33

Craig I havent a clue as to when its being announced, but I know that he was just looking at schooling and housing with his family, mabye the deal has been put on hold till he finds a house? lol :) a suggestion, but I am probably wrong.

  • 106 Danish_Magpie // Jul 8, 2008 at 6:55

ED, well done. We need this blog to stay clean, as it’s for everyone. While I don’t personally mind bad language per say, keeping it clean is also condusive to a much higher level of debate, while bad language leads to pointless exchanges.

Thanks for the time you put in, Ed.

  • 107 marosh // Jul 8, 2008 at 7:06

This is a very good idea. Nothing but words of praise for you Ed.

  • 108 Tommy // Jul 8, 2008 at 7:42

I don’t post here much, but I come here and read all the comments, so am glad something got sorted..

Would’ve been such a shame to let the minority spoil it..

  • 109 Guinea Mag // Jul 8, 2008 at 7:46

Ed, your blog is the best and will continue to be used by others who may abuse it. Good article and we support you; and NUFC of course.

    Keep up the good work!

Good to see the comments back, the site isn’t the same without them.

  • 112 WIGAZ // Jul 8, 2008 at 8:14

Ed it’s great to have comments back! i think some of posts were getting a bit stupid too like, this site should be for the mags to get together & discuss our club & who we want in the transfer windows as well as how were doing form wise, there’s is nothing stopping good football fans comin on & sharing their opinions! my best m8 is villa through & through but loves the toon & all football for that fact! would never come on a site stir up & cause abuse! for all non toon fans reading this, remember we’re all on here coz we love the game! on a lighter note any1 see barca dropped out of arshavin race? they want £20m! i think we should wack a bid in! imagine him tearing arsenal & chelsea apart next season! ha ha! egg on your face!

  • 113 IanG // Jul 8, 2008 at 8:25

Great to see the site back in its entirity and I am sure it’ll be all the better for the changes. Now where are those signings?

  • 120 Graham // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:08

Seems a bit arrogant this agent doesn’t he!?
I reckon money talks and in the end - we may be Arshavins only realistic option for a big club with prospects

  • 124 gorskino10 // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:22

well done for bringing comments back. But a cool thing to help you out would to have a report post link by each comment so when we see one which breaks the rules then u will know about it through your email.and Asharvin may not go to barca but he will then move to Arsenal. Inlar would be a great signing hope they wrap it up this week.

  • 125 steve // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:22

Arshavins agent has said that he is coming to England, Arsenal, Liverpool and Man U def not buying (at least according to them) I doubt he’ll goto Chelsea especially if Lampard stays so where does that leave him………….Newcastle :-)

Good on yer for putting the comments back, although somewhat annoying when people put up “wall virginity” and make up rumours the blog probably isn’t worth carrying on without them.
Once again Ed - thanks for your time, effort and money in keeping the site going.

  • 126 ronaldeano // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:23

Personaly i think we should forget about Arshavin. He was crap against Spain although he was world class against Holland.

I would prefer someone younger and more consistant. Arshavin is not worth 25 million at 27 years old, his agent is a mug if he thinks Zenit would get that much for him, and so would any club who paid that much for him

  • 127 ronaldeano // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:24

    Yeh thanx again Ed :)

    ToonKing…..It means Ce Faci :-)

  • 129 NE1 // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:26

Wenger has already voiced his concerns re: his fitness.
Although the agent has said he won’t go somewhere like Newcastle I just think we’ll be able to sell the club to him - we’re going places man - and I’m sure we’ll be in the top 6 within 18months.

  • 130 ronaldeano // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:31

I think he would jump at the chance to come to NUFC……. If we were in the CL, but were not so we need someone young and hungry ie, Mautinho, VDV etc. They are long shots but KK will get it sorted :)

  • 131 Hadji // Jul 8, 2008 at 9:32

Too bad we didnt get Augusto Fernandez from River Plate, much cheaper, much younger, and a better solution than Arshavin who imo is a 1 season wonder.

  • 139 Chicken // Jul 8, 2008 at 10:03

Thanks for bringing the comments section back, Ed! :)

I hope your new policies keep the charvers at bay. Shame there’s nothing we can do about the attention seeking little kids (TT) maybe if we just ignore them they’ll get the message and pipe down or clear off.

  • 140 Micky Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 10:05

I’ve stayed out of the rubbish that was being spouted over the last few days and it was inevitable that Ed would pull the plug. He did, but he also made some changes that will hopefully keep the children in check.

The Asharvin saga is a joke now. It’s now obvious his agent is just touting him to anyone who will listen. His dream move was Barcelona, yet they decided not to listen to them. This stinks of just getting as much money as possible for the agent and the player through a massive signing on fee and big wages.
Asharvin will stay where he is.

  • 141 Martin // Jul 8, 2008 at 10:06

Chicken and Micky Toon - this is how the abuse started in the first place…

I think it was just just a silly joke on TT’s behalf…possibly timing was a little off but all the same, having a pop at the younger bloggers doesn’t seem to fit with the new comments policy does it…

  • 142 Martin // Jul 8, 2008 at 10:09

I do however agree with you on the Arshavin deal…

I think they got wrapped up in the view that players prices escalate unneccisarily due to European Competitions - however, as many of these players have then gone on to flop BADLY managers are a lot more savvy…

It’s a case of going too far, he’s either going to have to drop the price with his tail between his legs OR hope that someone has enough faith in him to match the ridiculous price…

Though I regard any kind ofr censorship as negative and being someone who uses the occasional anglo saxon expletive, I may be the only one to object to your reasons for censoring people, think you are abit thin skinned,to be honest.
However had you used racism, anti semnatism personal attacks and other offensive natured
comments , I would have beenin full agreement.

  • 150 Chicken // Jul 8, 2008 at 10:47

  • 154 Micky Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 11:16

Martin - When I said children, I was talking about people acting childish, not the actual age of posters. I don’t know how old the posters to this blog are.

As for Asharvin, the bbc are reporting that it would cost whoever signs him £41m including wages. I’m not sure how they calculated that as I haven’t seen anything to indicate how long his contract would be. Asharvin has sullied his reputation via his agent and none of the big clubs will touch him now, so expect to see him unveiled as a toon player by the end of the week ;-)

  • 155 brownrob // Jul 8, 2008 at 11:30

Is anyone else not worried about all these big clubs staying clear off him?

Has KK actually said he wanted to sign him? Or watched him?

  • 157 willowtoon // Jul 8, 2008 at 12:10

Fully agree with the new policy. Stopped posting in the past due to the behaviour, could not be bothered to read all the comments.

Ither suporters come on to have a pop due to the fact they do not have a blog anywhere near as good as this one. It lays claim to NUFC being a “big” club, because Geordies are all around the world, but the toon is in the heart. Other mates I know follow the local club, but not with the same passion and adopt the new local club.

This is what makes the Toon fans special.

Glad were al back talking and role on August…..

With regard to Selling the club, I am sure Ashey will sell at some point, but he leaves a much better structured club than he came to. I will always thank him for removing the arrogant mismanagement (You know what I mean) of Shepherd. The more we progress up the table the more money people will be attracted to the club to buy it. The question is When Ashley will sell. He owns it 100% and no one can make him.

If we do well next year - With a ful year of king kev I am sure he will realise that its going to be fun to stick around long term. For him this is a hobby but he became so rich making a profit. It is in his nature to sell if the profit is huge. He has to remember that once sold he can never get it back. And which new club he bought would be as good as the toon……………………….

  • 158 chuck // Jul 8, 2008 at 12:27

Its the usual agent ploy, drumming up the price for his clients, making outrageous claims concerning who wants him , who he is willing to play for etc.
C`mon this is the transfer season, truth is its a time of exitement and hoopla, who is going where and this blog is full of nothing else.
Arshavin! decent player, not worth more than
£10m. and probably not responsible for the statements from his agent and who would`nt like to play for one of the top teams in europe ?

  • 159 Stami // Jul 8, 2008 at 12:39

  • 161 Tom_Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 13:18

Chicken - You are a fool, if we get rid of many people my age on this blog 17/18 then there will be a hell of a lot less people on here.

    Grow up.

  • 162 laurent32 // Jul 8, 2008 at 13:45

nice one ed! get enough of those pesty wums on 606! you should try and make it a toon fan only zone, just ban other fans. this is a newcastle only site at the end of the day. there are plenty of other forums etc they can spread their nonsense on where all fans are welcome.

  • 163 Craig Allen // Jul 8, 2008 at 14:09

Good to see the comments back, Ed. Thanks for allowing us to our voice our opinions on your blog again. I admit, I’ve been an offender in the past especially against supporters from other clubs who come to stir, but I’ll resist the urge next time to hurl their abuse back at them. Cheers.

  • 164 shirts // Jul 8, 2008 at 14:17

Sorry, but anti-semitism is not a “weapon” or a “tool” for winding up Spurs or Ajax supporters–it’s rank ignorance and racist and it should be challenged.

In Spain they were throwing bananas at African players and grunting like monkeys. Is that okay as a wind up too?

It’s things like signing on to Spurs forums as Theodor Herzl (I didn’t need to look it up–can you guess why?), threatening to use Zyklon B to gas Spurs fans as they did in the concentration camps (I didn’t need to look that up either–can you guess why?), calling Spurs owners the “Kike Mafia” (does anyone need to look that up?) and the foul language & personal attacks combined that made Ed shut us down.

And yeah–other fans from other clubs will come on and try to cause a fuss from time to time. But do we really “suffer” from it? It really amounts to nowt. In fact, it’s rather entertaining if you don’t over react. Let them come on. What’s the harm?

On censorship–there’s a saying along the lines of “The cure for speech you disagree with is… MORE FREE SPEECH.”

So if the comments matter to you, call someone out when you see them writing base things. Do it without vulgarity, as Ed’s against it, but do it.

That said, this is not a “public” site–it’s Ed’s show and as such Ed’s policies should be respected. After all, if you don’t like it, what’s to stop you from writing your own blog?

So… clean slate, yes. Happy to see the comments back, happy to see many of these names I’ve grown accustomed to and glad, too, to see signs that people are calming down a bit.

Perhaps no offence was meant in many cases–and I accept that because lord knows I’m not above it and I’ve said (and will probably say) some stupid and offensive things in my life, but it was getting way out of hand.

So, peace and respect and puppies and flowers for all….

Now, WHO’S SIGNING FOR US NEXT!?

  • 165 robertsa // Jul 8, 2008 at 15:30

well said ed its about time we had respect for the site

Tom Toon - thanks for getting back to me. Now why don’t you go away and learn to read for a bit. Because if you had read what I had written properly you would have noticed that I did in fact say nothing at all about getting rid of people your age. What I said was that it was a shame nothing could be done about attention seeking little kids such as yourself. Now call me a fool one more time and see how much longer you last on this site. I dare you.

  • 168 Tom_Toon // Jul 8, 2008 at 19:51
