Steven Taylor has talked about the upcoming season with the Evening Chronicle today.
Steven Taylor – holding off Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor
With just 13 senior players training yesterday, Taylor, David Edgar and Cacapa were the only central defenders present yesterday.
And with our first game at Hartlepool United a week on Saturday, Keegan may be forced to use all three defenders for that game.
Steven Taylor talked to the Evening Chronicle today on the important season coming up:
“The club is moving forward – it shows in the form guide at the end of last season.” “At the end of the season we were performing fantastically.”
“The competition for places is second to none now.” “Everyone is fighting for that shirt for the new season.”
“And these are exciting times.â€
Keegan must have been delighted that Steven signed his new 3 year lucrative contract at the club, and Steven provides the local element in the dressing room, since he’s been on Tyneside since he was 2 weeks old.
He was born down south in Greenwich, and the last time Kevin managed the club young Steven was a wide-eyed ball boy around 10 years old.
There seems no doubt that Kevin is an inspiration to the youngster, not to mention the older players who are at the club.
Steven added:
“Kevin has made a massive impact here.” “When he first took over we had a few hard games and we couldn’t get a result.”
“But we knew once we got one result we could go on a nice run, which we did.” “Once we got the first win under Kevin against Fulham we were playing with confidence.â€
“Overall, last season was up and down. We started off OK, but then it was disappointing.”
“The last few weeks of the season were much better and just one defeat in the last eight was impressive.â€
Steven will probably need to have his best season ever at the club, if we are truly to make the top six next season.
But given how the youngster excelled during the final part of the season under Kevin Keegan, we almost expect next season will be his best.
We certainly hope so.

Comment #17535k a week, Jesus Christ, no wonder he’s talking it up now. Doesn’t deserve to get anywhere near that amount, he’s still totally unproven.
He’s got to kick on, he’s got to play well all season and be consistent if he manages to get a starting XI place. He’s fannied around too long having the ability and not showing it enough.

Comment #176Did you guys forget about keeping the comments section civil or are you happy to have Ed shut it down again.
TOM TOON you should know better that to respond to Fernando – hes a spurs supporter.
And come on why do people think ” You play football manager” is such a big insult. Everyone on here probably has a fantasy team or makes picks or has a video game of some sort so get over it. Is this highschool???

Comment #178I dont like Taylor but we’ll be stuck with him until he decides to leave which will be when he’s about 35 . He seems to have conned the people that matter but he doesnt con me or any of my mates who are season ticket holders, he isnt good enough, has poor vision, gets out of position and then handles the ball, fouls etc in the box. He has and will continue to cost us goals and points.
All I can say is prove me wrong and justify that big mansion you’ve just bought in Darras Hall
