Setanta Sports is reporting today, that Seb Larsson’s agent has said that Newcastle United are the only club that has bid so far for the Birmingham midfielder.
Seb Larsson – he will know that Newcastle have made a bid
It’s interesting that Sebastian’s agent has refuted recent speculation linking the Birmingham midfielder with a move to either Blackburn Rovers Wigan Athletic.
His agent Per Jonsson confirmed today that the only Premier League side to have made an offer for the Swedish international are the Newcastle club, although there is also some interest from abroad.
However, Larsson’s preference is to remain in England, and we’re fairly sure that Seb would love to move to Newcastle, so what’s the holdup?
Seb is a right-sided or central midfielder and since we have just signed Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez, maybe we will pass Seb over.
But it does look like the Swede is flexible, and he’s even filled in at full back, so we think he would become a good squad player.
But we’re not sure that’s what Kevin is after in the summer.
Per Jonsson told setantasports.com today:
“I have seen [the Blackburn link] in the English newspapers but I know nothing about that,â€
“There are a lot of rumors at this time of year – the Wigan story is the same.”
“The only offer I know of is from Newcastle United, but I haven’t heard from them in the last week.”
“There is interest from abroad as well but Sebastian wants to stay in England.”
“It is still early in the window – we could know more at the end of July.â€
Whether Newcastle sign Seb is probably dependent on what other good central midfielders we can attract to the club this summer.
One good one we believe we could be after is Argentine Pablo Aimar, who would seem to jump at the chance to join the Magpies.
But it seems he’s almost on his way to Benfica, and it looks odds on that Steve Sidwell will sign for Aston Villa, probably as early as tomorrow.
The only way we would probably now sign Larsson is if we were willing to let James Milner leave, but that makes no sense to us.
We’ve put in a bid, but for Birmingham the bid was too low, but now that Larsson knows of Newcastle’s interest, he would hardly be happy if Birmingham refused to sell him, and it’s never worthwhile keeping an unhappy player.
Right now the Midlands club want to get as much as they can for the player, and you can hardly blame them for that, especially when they don’t want to sell the player in the first place.
What do you think about Seb Larsson?
Let us know – comments welcome – but please keep them civil – thanks.

There’s nothing better than 6 point off Spuds, and goal glut to boot!!
Does anyone think that it is very very strange that KK is the quietest he has ever been whilst a Manager of a Footy Club??
Normally you cant get him away from the front of the cameras??
Also a footnote…..
When the comments were stopped on here the other day, it was after a Spud fanm came on and started abusing one of our bretheren…………I hope we give the Spuds another roasting next term, just for that turd making a couple of days without the blog 2 of the most boring days of my life …lol

Comment #46natedawg – never thought I’d have a 2nd club but have to admire Villa for putting a charity on their shirt for 1 season. Plus don’t like the way Barry has gone about leaving. So, Villa would be my second team if forced to choose.

Comment #49What about your 3 biggest hates, leaving the mackems out. Thats a given.
Mine are Boro, Tottenham and Everton.
Boro are pathetic. Plastic stadium and a joke support. Weird people too.
Tottenham are just properly annoying. Chas n Dave. Horrible smug Home Counties fans. So in Arsenal’s shadow.
Everton. I hate that “peoples club” “school of science” cack they come out with. Scouse Mackems…

Comment #55Hes a central player…Just because he has played wide before does not mean he is coming at the expense of Milner!
Larrson would be to replace the thug Barton or the incompetence of Emre!
Very good engine and free kick taker…Would take him in a heartbeat and he will only get better!
Also brought through the Arsenal youth team so you know hes been taught how to play football properly!
PS I hate Boro and Spurs with a passion!! lol

Comment #58Lads – Arshavin might be tempted by a job moonlighting in MA’s other business. The Zenit site says
“Andrey has successfully defeated his thesis “Development of the sports wear production process†and graduated with the diploma of a fashion designer”
Come to NUFC son and we’ll let you design the shirts – black and white stripes mind!

Comment #64Davey G – I can forgive KK being a little quiet at the moment being as how they’ve had a family tragedy and all.
Is it wrong and selfish of me to worry if that will unduly affect his transfer persuing?

Comment #75Talking of second clubs, a friend of a friend chose to give up supporting West Ham about thirteen years ago because he wanted to follow a lower league side instead. He chose Orient.
Though I know I could never really follow any other team but the Toon (I lived near Valencia for a while but couldn’t get interested as a second team, nor in New York where I live now) I think there’s something admirable in doing that, choosing a club from a lower league. He’s very much an avid Orient fan now. Imagine a Chelsea, Man U or Spurs fan doing that for example???!!!
