Waife Danquah Another Top Youngster At Newcastle

July 9th, 2008 · 31 Comments

Newcastle United’s 18 year-old youngster Frank Wiafe Danquah has signed a new two-year professional contract with the club.

Frank Wiafe Danquah - signed his first professional contract at Newcastle

The Dutch teenager started at the Ajax Youth Academy, and played a full season at Newcastle last year starring in the Reserves and was coached by Reserve Team manager, Adam Sadler.

Frank was called into the first-team pool for the final game of the season at Goodison Park by Kevin Keegan, but he didn’t make the substitutes bench.

Nevertheless, that was a sign of recognition for the player from manager Kevin Keegan, who watched almost every Reserve team game last year, home and away.

Speaking on his new deal, young Danquah said today:

“It may have taken some time, but I finally got what I have always to achieve: earn a place as player in professional football.”

His agent Winnie Haastrecht emphasizes that Frank is of Ghanese origin, but does hold a Dutch nationality.

“I hope he will now get a Holland Under-19 call up,”

Danquah started his career at Ajax, and he played for the amateurs of FC Omniworld and AFC before he made his move to Newcastle. He is eligible to play for Holland and he has a decent chance of a callup for the Under 19 team, as his agent mentioned.

He played very well for the Reserves last season, and the club have high hopes for him, and is yet another one of our top young players.

We have quite a few of them now, and most of them will play in our Reserves side next season, and it should be the youngest Reserve side ever, in Newcastle’s history.

Those games will certainly be covered on our site - after all, it’s the young players who are the future of the club.

Comments welcome.

Classic comment on the Orlando Sentinel, Ed! :) -

“It’s funny you call it “the other football” - for over 99% of the world’s population, it’s the only football - and the world’s global game.
    Only in America.”

I hope he makes it with NUFC. He certainly seems keen this Dutch Ghanaian Geordie.

“You’ll never win aything with kids” Mr Hansen, wonder if we’re gonna try and prove him wrong again :)

Would still be good to see some more established players coming in though.

we need a good blend of quality youth and experienced international players! Come on NUFC pull your finger out!!!!!

  • 5 Fernando // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:18

sidwell has gone to villa. another oppurtunity missed.

  • 6 Davies // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:20

Good spot TS, and nice one Ed. I really don’t get why Americans call their sport football, when they clearly spend most of the game using their hands. Those crazy yanks.

Pleased to see that our young acquisitions are of international quality. Always a bonus.

  • 7 Davies // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:22

Wasn’t that fussed about him to be honest Fernando. There are better players for the same money.

  • 8 dick // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:22

With the lack of experienced players coming in I think a lot of the youngsters will get a chance to show what they can do, I only hope they are as good as people say they are, if not we are in trouble

  • 9 John // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:26

Fernando are’nt you a spurs fan..Why do you care? and why are you on here ?

  • 10 Ruvio // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:31

it’s because it’s American Rugby Football
why they don’t call it american rugby, or to placate their endless desire for initials NFLARF i’ll never know
Frank looks to be a top yough player from the reserve games i got to last year, and having a player with links to so many nationalities can only be a good thing (unless of course you’re yorkshire cricket club) in that other players will almost always be happier to play for a team when other nationals play there.

  • 11 oga // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:36

    Is he Ghanaian or Guyanese?

  • 12 Tom_Toon // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:37

    From Ghana.

People from Guyana are normally french.

  • 13 domtoon // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:49

    Fernando

Come on here all you please but keep on-topic, and don’t try and rile us up in this fashion.

    It’s immature and pointless!

  • 14 daiv // Jul 9, 2008 at 12:58

We need quality NOW. Not youngsters for the future. A lot of our targets are chosing other clubs. The Champions League is a big draw but I do not buy into the claim that the EUFA Cup is that big an attraction for players. Most games are played in tin pot grounds watched by 10 thousand suppoerters. So clubs in the Eufa cup do not have that great an advantage over us. The real reason is that we are either not being aggressive enough with the transfer fe or the wages are not enough. Perhaps Kevin does not have the star appeal of 10 years ago. When we ssee somebody we really want we should make sure we get him and not offer the going rate and see what happens because as is being shown, we will probably nnot sign him. Get your fingers out NUFC or suffer a dismal season. I do not want to keep reading we have signed another juvenile who may be great in 4 years time.Quality now please.

Guys keep the faith. Sidwell wasn’t that good.

I am sure we will sign 2 or 3 more quality players and be pushing for Europe next season.

  • 16 Fernando // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:15

check skysports website. Its on there. Who says i am a spurs fan? I think there is another fernando.

  • 17 Martin // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:24

…There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright…

    You mean him?

  • 18 domtoon // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:33

Sorry Fernando I thought you were Fernando :D

  • 19 Ross G // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:36

I bloody well hope we sign more than 3 or 4. That wont put us in Europe unlless they were Ronaldo, Gerrard, Puyol, and Torres. We need at least 5-6 first team additions, and another 4-5 youngsters. I believe we really need a top LB, and CB for the backline, with a back-up RB for Beye. We need alot in midfield as our only actual CM is Butt, Geremi aint a CM, Barton is enjoying shower time, and both N’Zog and Mil are too offensive to play there. I would sign 2-3 CM. 1 DM in Inler hopefully, a box to box like Sidwell, and a goalscoring type which Sjkilbred is. Then I think our wingers are fine now, but we do need a high scoring target man. I still hope for Gomis, but Derdiyok looks more of a prospect than a high scorer, Gomis has proved he can score when Derdiyok looks more to assist which is fine, but we need him for both. Then get in some youngsters that can push these, maybe a few south americans. How nice would it be to find the next Fabregas and rob him from Barca hahahaha. Im dreaming …….. when in Rome

  • 20 Tom_Toon // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:38

Ross G - Skjelbred barely scores any goals. Hes a worker with better passing ability than most.

  • 21 YongMalaysia // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:41

Fernando, i think u better change another name, its was confusing…

  • 22 Leo // Jul 9, 2008 at 13:44

well someone is imature pretending to be fernando then? probably this mystery guy who is doing it, who might be a mackam

i hope the new system blocks these guys because doing the whole name copying is giving some people a bad name

  • 23 gorskino10 // Jul 9, 2008 at 15:02

He looks like Martins just a tad younger hopefully our researve team will be strong next season and then it will benifit the main squad in a few years :).

  • 24 JR Lutterbach Habib // Jul 9, 2008 at 15:58

Yes, he can be a great player for the club in the future.

  • 25 Willy boi // Jul 9, 2008 at 16:37

I think we have such an amazing youth team. These boys will all be Toon stars one day (hopefully!!!)

  • 26 Dan // Jul 9, 2008 at 16:49

di talk to danquah on facebook
he doesn’t even start for the reserves

  • 27 neozero // Jul 9, 2008 at 18:10

good to see potential players are been developed in the club.

  • 28 Patrick // Jul 9, 2008 at 18:20

Worths a shot signing Frank Wiafe Danquah. I think KK won’t make useless moves. This must be someone that we’ve been expecting. Without proof, we never know if he’s a yay or nay.

  • 29 ben // Jul 9, 2008 at 19:11

hees good but he missed a shocker agenst hull last yr in a friendly

  • 30 tam toon // Jul 9, 2008 at 21:16

This was agreed in May he would get a new contract along with my mates lad Darren Lough(1 year). It’s old news that broke again yesterday from some website. A few of people on here had not heard of him, and thought he was a new signing. Great fans!

  • 31 Charlie // Jul 10, 2008 at 0:39

Not fussed over sidewell at all. Hope we have a whole team of youngsters in the reserves.

Dr. Ed Harrison is a retired IBM Consulting Group Executive who now has time, and lots of it, after 34 years at the American computer company, to write about his lifelong passion - Newcastle United Football Club.

Ed was born and bred in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and watched his first game at St. James’ Park in 1949 as a 4 year-old with his Mother and Father. He was told to look out for number 9 - Jackie Milburn – the great Wor Jackie - and was he fast!

In football terms Ed was a goalkeeper and played for Wharrier Street Primary School and Newcastle Minors (Newcastle Schoolboys Under-11), in 1956 and went on to play for Newcastle Schoolboys and Northumberland Schoolboys (Under-15) in 1959 and an England Schoolboys trial.

He was at Newcastle United for a couple of years from 1960 as an amateur, while still at school, and played with Bobby Moncur and David Craig, amongst others, for the Newcastle United Under-18 side (Newcastle N’s in those days), during the relegation season of 1960-1961.

Ed attended Heaton Technical and Manor Park schools, and then went on to study at both King’s College, London (BSc Electrical Engineering) and Newcastle University (PhD Computer Science). He played for Newcastle Universities and England Universities from 1967 until 1970.

But a short couple of years after Ed joined IBM in 1970, he was shipped over to the USA, with his new wife Madeline, a beautiful local Newcastle lassie.

At IBM Ed was in computer systems and network design for 34 years, and in his last 10 years at the company was persuaded to enter executive management. where he ended up running IBM's Americas' Network Consulting Group for 5 years from the late 1990s, and was instrumental in forming the IBM alliance with Cisco Systems in 1999.

Ed and Madeline live just outside Raleigh in North Carolina. Their twin sons Paul and Neil, and daughter Elaine, are now in their early 30s, live close by, and Neil has carried on the family tradition by becoming an avid Newcastle United supporter.

And one final thing that is so true - you can take the boy out of Newcastle but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy!

    Howay The Lads!!
